@spotdathief You see, the greatness of this song is that it simultaneously expresses a child's perception of her teenage babysitter and the teenager's feelings about her own growing up experiences. So it is written in the language a child uses. The lyrics aren't horrible, they fit with the fact that the song is written from the perspective of a kid.
a long time ago when i went to sleep away camp, i got seperation anxiety and i couldnt stand being there and all i did was cry. but one night before bed our councelor got her guitar and i was lying on my bed while she was infront of the room playing this song and singing it...i never felt that comfortable ever in my life.
2) its true i just got back from session 4 ranch camp. we sang it a LOT and rowan and peaches learned the chords on their guitars while we were on our overnight. it was really funny but nice. i also got homesick and this song made me cry and then i felt a lot better. i was great.
Hey! Thanks for posting these videos! I did not have a video camera that was small enough to do bootlegs when I went to four Dar/Cry Cry Cry concerts in the 90's & 2000

Listen to the lyrics. They are horrible. "She taught us the sign for peace!"...Wow....I'd LOVE to have this song on my ipod....

Most of these songs are set in the 70's. Thats the sort of thing they did back then.

This is such an awesome song! This and "When I Was A Boy" are my two favorite Dar Williams' songs. That final verse chokes me up every time.
