That's a disgraceful advert, but it does serve to shed light on the fact that there's an enormous amount of racism (often based on skin colour)between and within Asian communities. It's also reassuring to know that, even when you're a rich and successful movie star, you can still be stupid enough not to realise/acknowledge that you are perpetuating the very vice- racism - from which millions of your fellow men suffer every day and which destroys people's lives.

This has nothing to do with looking "Aryan" or "European". In Asian countries, being dark-skinned means you have to work hard, and work outside. Pale skin implies you're well off (Chinese people in Indonesia are often just as white as Europeans, since they're often well off).

Mind you, I think the guy looks ill, not "fair".

Insofar as more Europeans are both fairer and wealthier, popular perception in Asia has always associated fairness with Europeanness. This was as much the case in 19th century India as it is today.

Pink skinned fair haired northern europeans look nothing like the real original aryans of Iran and northern India. The original aryans had black hair and golden skin. Of course, when the aryans migrated westwards, they were infected by mixing with the savage blonde european native. It is ironic that later in history europeans would steal the word aryan and try to label it onto the blonde savages when actually it is the black haired medium skinned Iranian and north Indian who are the pure aryans.

Many Indians would like to look like the 'original pure aryans', that is black hair and light yellow or golden skin. Note that there is condusion in the west aboiut he woird 'aryan'. Shahruck Khan is a moron and a vile little shit. I have no more respect for him. There is a cultural tendency for Indians to prefer 'light skin', as in Iranian skin, but this has gotten worse since colonialism. The media supports it. Indians should be proud of what they look like. The sad thing is, 60% of the poulation of India is much darker than even the 'dark skinned' man portrayed in this add.
