I'm kinda surprised the show didn't get affected from him having them. Also 30,000 other Americans had shingles about the same time he did. It was a mini epidemic. My grandmother got them too.

Doctor appointment's and seeing her writhe in pain. On top of that she has varicose veins. Probably Craig has had a somewhat traumatic experience. It is a disease that can seriously affect your life. I'm glad to hear that you didn't have to go through too much and you got healed up.
