Well done - there's some minor "surgery" you can give your Loree to add resonance to high "c" that involves a 2mm expansion of the 2d octave key - it will make that note "sing"
'Love it! We will watch this in our preschool music class this week! Thanks for a great video. A special request.... would you be able to upload a video introducing youngsters to the English horn please? I don't have one to show & they would love it. I can;t find any video on Youtube that tells about this lovely instrument. Thanks!
Such a noble and wonderful instrument, especially for the "country hillside", Oh Danny Boy-reminiscent solo you played. I mean, I'm just a meesly bassoonist in high school so what would I know? But I could feel the emotion and embouchure control.
@PianoGuy213 I have a friend who recently switched from english horn to oboe, and he didn't seem to have a problem. I play oboe, but I've never played an English Horn, so I'm not very sure.
@PianoGuy213 - I think it's easy to get started. I just started E. horn. The fingerings are pretty much the same, from what I've seen, and playing it is similar. The main thing you have to be sure of is that you're adjusting. When you finger a Bb on an E. horn, it's a fifth below what you would expect. So it's a little difficult to get used to that.
Typically you would learn the oboe before playing the English horn. The fingerings are very similar, so I guess that would be to your advantage, but otherwise they are two totally different instruments to learn.
@rdt425 actually oboe fingerings are fairly simular to sax as well, I think playing oboe first is usually for the embouchure, also, playing the english horn has disadvantages, not all music has parts for them
@xxxBradTxxx I think it would be difficult in the sense that you have to totally retrain your mouth in order to get a good quality oboe/english horn embouchure. Double reeds and single reeds have very different embouchures, so that would be most of the difficulty in switching.
My teacher is making me play this, I'm scared cause I'm so used to the oboe. It's so hard for my tiny hands. But you played it sooo amazingly I wish I could do it!
Youtube is recommending other English horn videos, all playing the same piece, but why bother watching other videos? One can easily replay this video again and again, enjoying the fine playing of this young musician. A+, will watch again.
p.s. - Ill be watching for Pines of Rome!

Beautiful, but the vibrato should be wider and more steady...

when was this piece written, parts remind me of the opening to the rite of spring
Hazy804 2 years ago
This was written in 1893 I believe, and the Rite of Spring was written in 1913
