This is the video that made me decided to have Jaw Surgery 2.5 years ago. Thanks Ben to Upload this After Surgery video on Youtube, My surgery Result is as perfect as yours ;)
wow. I know this is an old video but just wanted to say your smile is fantastic now! I'm hoping to get surgery in about 2 years, in the summer before going to uni- hopefully i'll have a smile as good as yours before I head off to meet a whole bunch of new people! thanks so much for posting your experience on youtube, it's been really positive to watch. still really nervous about the surgery and recovery but anyway THANK YOU :)
I am in a similar situation...I am 18 years old and I am going to undergo a surgery like this in a month, and I wanted to say that your videos really eased my mind. I know it isn't going to feel good, but seeing you up and about in your other vids after undergoing the surgery is comforting. I hope that my outcome is even a fraction as successful as yours was! This encourages me to perhaps make my own videon series during my surgery! Thank you!
@sicnor553 I am about to undergo this surgery or most likely...i have to see an othodontist to see the verdict....did you HAVE to get this jaw surgery with the braces or was it possible for you to get just the braces?Have u ever been struck in the jaw?
Huh. That's odd that Blue/Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota paid for yours, because Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Arkansas most certainly did not pay for mine. In fact it was specifically excluded in the policy handbook. Of course, your surgery was four years ago, so maybe things have changed with the whole health insurance debacle. I ended up paying $10,000 for mine, but I had it done by an oral surgeon with an operating room, and hospitals tend to be more expensive.
wow your turned out great. I got surgeory on my top jaw, lower jaw, wisdom teeth removed, and a small chin extension because of my 7mm overbite. its been 5 days since the surgeory and im not gona lie, this is by far the most painful and depressing experience i ever gone through and im 16 years old. i appreciate you putting these videos up, it might not seem like it, but they really do motivate me to keep going. ive already lost 8lbs and all ive been eating is soup. Im glad to know it gets better
@andrew00058 Try yogurt, ice cream. Do anything you can to reverse that depression. Watch funny movies and try hard not to laugh (cause it may hurt), that's what I did. Keep your spirits up and keep watching people on youtube for inspiration. :) Once you're done, it'll seem like it never happened! Best of luck to you!
It was so nice to see your videos, I had surgery about 6 months ago in upper and lower jaw. About 3 weeks of no talking and eating just liquids. Right now I also have the fixed-retainer and the plastic retainer too.
And I felt totally identified with your expression just before showing your orthodontic-free teeth!
Man! It was really nice to watch this!!!
Enjoy the freedom of eating candies, and full apples with no concerns!!!
I had my 7 tooth implant 3 months ago and... oral surgery is something not pleasant to talk about... lots of soreness and pain during and after the surgery lol...
@edpannewyork It's important to note that people don't go through this specifically to feel the pain. We do it/did it for other reasons. Improving our functionality, feeling normal, being able to fit in, being able eat/breathe/talk normally without discomfort.
A great analogy is like divorcing your husband/wife. You probably have reasons for it. The pain, yes, it's there and it probably sucks, but that's no reason not to do it. People who worry over the pain will never do what's right.
Thanks so much for posting these videos. I'm going to have double jaw surgery at the end of next month. Seeing your results helps calm my nerves about going through with it!
hey. i might be getting that surgery to corerct my lower jaw. im a bit worried about having a double chin though. you dont have one but i am just concerned that taking away bone but leaving the same amount of skin would cause this.
i recently had upper and lowr jaw surgery about a month ago and i still have swelling and numbness around my mouth and my nose is still really numb. how long were you numb? how long did it take for all of your swelling to go away as well?
@princess11222 well i had the sugery on april 5 2010 and i get them off in the middle of july. just to put it out there, i did develop anemia after surgery and am still not over it
Thank you for posting your videos. Everyone reading this should know that this surgery can be a wonderfully life changing experience. It's important to have emotional support from family and friends; however, if you have that, then the recovery will generally be OK.
I am actually scheduled to get my top and bottom jaw surgery 43 days from now. It hasn't sunk it yet that I'm getting it, but when it comes down to the wire it will hit me.
I was wondering if you could give me some useful information about the surgery, like how long did it take you to recover, if you had any complications anything you think would be beneficial for me to know before hand.
@princess11222 I actually still have my braces on, but only because I have a very small gap in between my teeth from the elastics I had to wear after my surgery. I get my braces off on August 25, so I don't have to wear them for much longer, thank god !
They just want to make sure that since the jaw surgery changes the position of your teeth that ALL of the teeth are aligned properly, and you will be happy with the end result.
I am actually scheduled to get my top and bottom jaw surgery in 43 days from now, it hasn't hit me yet that it's going to change my appearance drastically, when it comes down to the wire, it definately will hit me.
I was wondering if you had any complications or you could just give me any useful information about your surgery experience. It would be greatly appreciated and I probably wont be as nervous about it haha..
you're so cute! LOL, congrats on the new look, I'm sure it was a long painful process. I stumbled onto your first video and then watched this one, BIG difference. Best of luck to you!
Hey Ben, nice result, Im thinking on doing the same and would like to have some info, so if you can please tell me how much you paid for the surgery itself... all right, thanks man.
your surgery looks great. I'm also just having the surgery on my top jaw...as aparently my bottom jaw is normal and my top jaw hasn't grown forward enough. How was your surgery? How painful etc and how long was it until you ate?
sorry for all the questions?
Also my names Rosemary Isobel Daisy Jackson. lol Add me to facebook, n i can keep u posted how i get on...although i'm a long way off. Also would be good to find out how your gettin too.
YOU LOOK GREAT, SOO CUTE!!! I am scheduled for my first orthognatic surgery consultation on 11/19th. Its been 3 months since I had my braces installed (if that's the right word) and will be on it for 17 more, in between is the surgery. I have the same problem as yours and my Orthodontist said that I will have upper and lower surgery. After knowing the procedure you'd been through, I guess I'm not gonna be able to say its final.
I almost cried when I first stumbled upon ur vids. I've heard abt this surgery a few abt 8 yrs back but got no clue abt it. I have a major underbite problem & cleft lips (operated but it still...). May be it's time for me to change my own destiny and stop all those nightmares. Thx 4 sharing
How come the tip of your nose looks more defined/upturned in this video than in previous ones? I don't mean to sound rude, and there is nothing wrong with the way your nose looks, but I'm just curious from an informative standpoint.
hey my surgeon corrected the look of my nose during my top jaw surgery. he told me my noise was pointing the the left and he he noticed that the could change the direction while moving my top jaw !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Creepy but possible!
well i actually made a pact! and next to other persons i never chew gum since i wear braces and cut so many other things that i want to taste(in approximately 3 months to be exact) like apples, french bread, bubble gum, many many crunchy stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!! aaaaaaarg cant wait now!!
BEEEEEEN HEY!!!!!!! my surgeon called me yesterday morning and someone else canceled his surgery and has he promised to me, if someone canceled, im the next and so is august 24th, is less than 2 weeks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm going to have this procedure next spring - It's been in the making since I was a little girl :D It was wonderful to see your progress, your jaws look really good now, and your chin has come to it's right. Haha! But thirteen mms, that's a lot!
But thanks for your videos, helps me get prepared, and I can't wait for the day I do not fear closing my mouth, show my profil or get pictures taken *sigh*.
I am so happy for you I have had my overbite for too many years it is the thing I am most self concious of and I cried watching your video. unfortunately this is not something I can afford to have done but boy am I happy for you.
hey I mite get my top jaw done soon because my underbite and the doctor said my cheekbones flat. how did the srgery do for u did it hurt during ur asleep? how bout u wake up. I'm scared. and when you got it done, did your cheekbone stick out more? get bak at me. thanks =]
Hey I'm just chilling here, first week after surgery on my upper and lower jaw and feeling pretty blue, but your vids definitely made me smile! :-D thanks for sharing your success!
honestly this video makes me wanna cry! just thinking about when ill be done!!! this has been a two year thing for me too!! but this honestly makes me feel better!! =]
Oh My Gosh...$40k...You should have came to England...mine is freeeeeeeeeee =) What is the recovery like? Like, when does the swelling start to go down..they told me 2 weeks you see, so i'm hoping i do'nt look like a balloon face for too long..Cheers.
you should have insisted on your bottom jaw too, it looks kinda big. Does it still cost the same or did they charge you less after they decided to only operate on top jaw
Thanks so much for posting up all of those videos! They were very helpful. I am also getting the same surgery soon and I had no idea of what to expect of it so I was really scared. But you now gave me an idea of how it is supposed to be and I am a little more confident now. By the way you look great!
Were you ever able to open your mouth as wide as before? I had this done and I took out my wires about a month ago and can barely fit 2 fingers in my mouth. My next appointment isn't for another 2 months, but am kind of worried now that I'll never be able to open my mouth as wide as before, or even enough to eat regularly. Thanks in advanced
omg. you're really attractive and you have great smile ^^ i'm very surprised with the whole transformation cuz it has changed alot :o so hopefully i'll have mine done soon :)
take in a lot of high calorie and high fat liquids. Liquids pass through your system far too quickly to maintain or put on weight, however. So you're going to be at a loss most likely no matter what.
Thank you for your kind words. I was actually initially responding to "OnceExisted." Anyways, to answer your question: Yes, I lost around 12-15lbs during the liquid diet portion of recovery.
My god, thanks for posting! And congratulations for getting braces off! Went thought that myself and ouh boy did it suck! years of waiting for bones to stop growing. Then 2,5 years of braces. Surgery in between(both top and lower jaw operated).
I also have alot of silver fillings like yours...except I have 14...and I am thinking about changing them to white after my surgery. Have you ever thought of this? Also...did you get any new fillings recently are all of those older? I'm 32 and got all these fillings from age 14-20.
I have consulted my surgeon and he replied with an answer of No. But he still not certain and told me every surgery has its own risks and they will try to minimize and avoid as best as they could. By the way osteoarthritis is a disease usually happen on osteosurgical patients. So i am just curious.
what are the disadvantages of having this op while using testosterone?,my doc asked me had i used steroids in the past year when i first seen him i hadnt at the time, but wish to do so if its alright, or il have to wait till after the op ,i have a few ikdeas why, hope some one can help me with this, feel free to reply to this comment, thanks gary uk
my sister is going through her bimaxillo surgery right now. and we were ASTOUNDED by watching your videos the other night. you look amazing ! she is hoping that the outcome for her will be just as good as yours. : )
I'm getting surgery on top and lower jaw and chin and cheek bones. it's gona hurt isn't it? Lol. Congrats you look amazing! I have been having doubts about my surgery but you have inspired me to go ahead with the surgery! Thank you! x
I'm glad to have inspired you. It really depends on what you mean by "hurt." Pain really isn't too much of an issue. You will be provided plenty of strong medication to combat the pain. And if there is any - it comes on very slow. It's not a forceful piercing type pain. It's a slow, gradual, oncoming of pressure. More throbbing and discomfort than anything. It's nothing you can't handle.
You will not feel any pain...only discomfort. I had my lower jaw surgery on 12-11-2007 and worst thing about it was being wired shut for 6 weeks and watching people better food than you.
OMG you look So good i mean SOO GOOD, you look like my friends bf and hes a hottie! iv soughta got an underbite, when i clench my teeth my top teeth just sit on top of my bottom but i still look a bit down syndrome when i talk and chew so i guess ill have to get that surgery too. THANKS now iv got hope that one day my jaw will look as good as yours :)
Hi there. I was told that I needed this kind of surgery and I want it but for one, I'm really really scared, and two, I've heard that after the surgery, you would lose the feeling of on your chin and lower lip? Is that true?
This is NOT true. It is only possible. That means, by some small chance, they cut your nerve//stretch it too far that you may lose some or all of your feeling--almost never will you lose all of your feeling.
Don't believe all the negative hype, usually, it's only a small chance. People feel the need to warn you of every risk--my surgery went over with minimal, almost no, problems.
Hey, looks great. I had lower-jaw only orthognathic surgery a few years ago to correct an underbite...they moved my lower jaw back 7mm (which was just about the limit -- any further and they would have gone upper/lower). It was one of the best things I've ever done. It totally helped my self esteem in ways that people who don't have the same problem just don't understand. Congrats on everything...makes me happy to see others have their lives changed like I did.
dude, you look much better looking after the surgery! Congrats to you everything is going well, hope mine will too. hahaha i like how u show the braces are off LOL
well your upper jaw in the normal should be in front of your lower jaw a bit and form a closed bite but either way your jaws doesn't form a close bite
When your top jaw recedes behind your bottom jaw. Basically, your teeth should come down right on top of each other. If there are any large gaps you can fit your tongue through, it's usually abnormal. You must be diagnosed properly by an orthodontist.
Hey,Dude the results look great for you.I used to have a major underbite worse then yours. However, the dentist fix it alot with retainers. Now,I've a minor underbite and I'm pondering if you think Braces will do it for me?.Surgery is kidda expensive and painful for me to consider.thanks alot.
did you get braces first before the surgery or is it the other way around?
anyway, your videos are awesome, i think theyre doing the same procedure with me, but they wont be grafting bone from anywhere. Really nice to come across this video
you look great dude! this is very inspiring to me, I have been waiting since I was 8 years old to have this same surgery done. Now I am 21...hopefully my jaw has stopped growing. I am going in for a bone scan so they can determine if it has stopped growing. I am looking forward to getting this surgery process over with though.
You is inspired me.^^

you should have insisted on your bottom jaw too, it looks kinda big. Does it still cost the same or did they charge you less after they decided to only operate on top jaw

Thanks in advanced
ekin1 2 years ago
You need to train your mouth to open again. Do this exercise:
Open your mouth as wide as you possibly can and hold it for 5 seconds. Then take a break for 5 minutes.
Then, open your mouth as wide as you possibly can and hold it for 10 seconds.
Then take a break for 10 minutes.
Keep repeating this process, adding on 5 seconds each time. Do this every day for a while until you can open your mouth to normal width again.
If all else fails, see your doc.

thats quite a lot is there anyway to minimise weight loss during liquid diet?
any1700 2 years ago
take in a lot of high calorie and high fat liquids. Liquids pass through your system far too quickly to maintain or put on weight, however. So you're going to be at a loss most likely no matter what.
sicnor553 2 years ago
your welcome dude...can i ask did you lose weight post surgery due to the liquid diet?
any1700 2 years ago
Thank you for your kind words. I was actually initially responding to "OnceExisted." Anyways, to answer your question: Yes, I lost around 12-15lbs during the liquid diet portion of recovery.

Hi Sicnor, does the post-orthognatic surgery cause you osteoarthritis during humid weather at the corrected jawbone?
cbdivanhow 3 years ago
I have not heard of this as a risk at all. So I would venture No.
sicnor553 3 years ago
I have consulted my surgeon and he replied with an answer of No. But he still not certain and told me every surgery has its own risks and they will try to minimize and avoid as best as they could. By the way osteoarthritis is a disease usually happen on osteosurgical patients. So i am just curious.

I'm getting surgery on top and lower jaw and chin and cheek bones. it's gona hurt isn't it? Lol. Congrats you look amazing! I have been having doubts about my surgery but you have inspired me to go ahead with the surgery! Thank you! x
NoOneCatchMe 3 years ago
I'm glad to have inspired you. It really depends on what you mean by "hurt." Pain really isn't too much of an issue. You will be provided plenty of strong medication to combat the pain. And if there is any - it comes on very slow. It's not a forceful piercing type pain. It's a slow, gradual, oncoming of pressure. More throbbing and discomfort than anything. It's nothing you can't handle.
Best of luck to you.
sicnor553 3 years ago
You will not feel any pain...only discomfort. I had my lower jaw surgery on 12-11-2007 and worst thing about it was being wired shut for 6 weeks and watching people better food than you.

Hi there. I was told that I needed this kind of surgery and I want it but for one, I'm really really scared, and two, I've heard that after the surgery, you would lose the feeling of on your chin and lower lip? Is that true?
voguechic89 3 years ago
This is NOT true. It is only possible. That means, by some small chance, they cut your nerve//stretch it too far that you may lose some or all of your feeling--almost never will you lose all of your feeling.
Don't believe all the negative hype, usually, it's only a small chance. People feel the need to warn you of every risk--my surgery went over with minimal, almost no, problems.
Be careful what you choose to believe.

damn! I didnt even know you could correct that.. looks really good. medical science has certainly progressed!
amagadz 3 years ago
Oh yeah! This procedure has been around for a long time now. There are a couple surgeons at the Mayo Clinic that have been doing it for 15-30 years.
sicnor553 3 years ago
Hey, looks great. I had lower-jaw only orthognathic surgery a few years ago to correct an underbite...they moved my lower jaw back 7mm (which was just about the limit -- any further and they would have gone upper/lower). It was one of the best things I've ever done. It totally helped my self esteem in ways that people who don't have the same problem just don't understand. Congrats on everything...makes me happy to see others have their lives changed like I did.
ryanlong01 3 years ago 2
Thank you and congrats as well. I feel the same way -- ecstatic about my results.

whats an overbite?
and how do i know if i have it?
aznshrimp90 3 years ago
well your upper jaw in the normal should be in front of your lower jaw a bit and form a closed bite but either way your jaws doesn't form a close bite
bu3asalli 3 years ago
Just as bu3asalli said,
When your top jaw recedes behind your bottom jaw. Basically, your teeth should come down right on top of each other. If there are any large gaps you can fit your tongue through, it's usually abnormal. You must be diagnosed properly by an orthodontist.
sicnor553 3 years ago
Hey,Dude the results look great for you.I used to have a major underbite worse then yours. However, the dentist fix it alot with retainers. Now,I've a minor underbite and I'm pondering if you think Braces will do it for me?.Surgery is kidda expensive and painful for me to consider.thanks alot.

you look great dude! this is very inspiring to me, I have been waiting since I was 8 years old to have this same surgery done. Now I am 21...hopefully my jaw has stopped growing.
