Happy to say that this album changed my life outlook, though i find the new preachers release lacks the ability to flow through me like this does, awesome album, thanks for uploading, cheers.
Totally agree with all comments that talk about the heart of this song. I am now ashamed to admit that this is my favourite song of all time. I am 39 and have been a proper music lover since 1982. How dare these mediocre Welsh twats use this as a vehicle? Matt, there are better ways to make yourself heard!!
@ROOSTER41922 I believe that was the idea, as an appreciation of Johnsons songwriting ability regardless of style. As a manics fan i'm happy they did it, soul mining is great and i still aint checked out to the records they did with marr!
I can rember listening to this track and others everyday and night. lights off blaring in my headphones. this track seemed profound to me at the time. It still does in a way. always will do. love everything about THE THE n Mtt Johnson. yep i even changed my name to matt johnson
I like the manics , but how dare they cover this track ! i mean aint the manic street preachers experienced enough to do thier own songs. then again is it respect to matt johnson ?
yes, being a teen in the 80's was GREAT. MTV was new and exciting, new wave was at its peak in the early 80's. beer and cigs were cheap. Life was a lot simpler then.
remember listening to my brothers record collection, stumbled over this, taped it for my walkman and walked about listening to there album for a whole year. Glad i've found them again!
A lovely song reminiscent of Lloyd Cole & the Commotions' work during their "Rattlesnakes" and "Easy Pieces" period. I only wish I hadn't been so morose as to have missed its appearance back in the early 80s. Days of my own Great Depression.
i was introduced to this song 18 years ago by and old girlfriend. To this day it still has the ability to make me smile or cry depending on my state of mind. It has to be one of the best songs ever written. It reminds me of someone very special. Olivia if you are out there i will always love you xx
if any of you are aware of Matt's current "Save shoreditch" campaign. myself and a few of his loyal fans have decided to do everything in our power to encourage Matt to do a gig at the site to try and raise awareness for his cause. We think that with enough interest he might go for the idea. The plan is to get as much support as we can so if your interested in helping plz spread the word and join The The (and Matt johnsons) Face book and my space pages and check for further details.
