This isn't the worst game ever. Its just popular in the gaming world to say so. Theres plenty of games even on the 8 bit consoles like the NES that are worse. More like some top executives at Atari fucked up financially and used this game as the scapegoat after the gaming crash. However, the reason this game stinks is because its nearly impossible to figure out without the instruction manual where most other Atari games you can pop right in and play.

Was a good game and there was alot worse on the 2600 then ET ,the video game industry crashed before the release. Reason why some people didnt like it is because its too complex if you dont read the manual. I used to play it as one my favorites as their was more to it rather then jump or fire. 6 weeks the programer had to write the code and if they had more it would have been alot more polished. Alot more simpler games had months of development and never touched the indepth this game has

Well, it isn't that bad considering the capabilities of the Atari. Look for videos of Action Girlz Racing, now that's a fucking Insult knowing Wii can produce Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime Trilogy.

I remember playing this game as a kid. I must say, I do NOT think this is one of the worst games of all time. It deserves no awards, believe that, but I have seen far, far worse. A lot of people who use the whole "E.T. is the worse game ever line" in the gaming media have not even played it. And if they have, they unfairly compare it to better technology. Anyway, that's my two cents and I would like to think I am qualified having grown up on this game.

This game should be remade to show the movie some respect...I really enjoyed watching E.T. the Extraterrestrial movie back in the 1990's. I was born a year after the film was released so I didn't get a chance to watch it until after my family and I moved to USA in the winter of '92. I had seen the movie 4-5 times and have yet to figure out why there wasn't a decent video-game adaptation. The Atari version of this game was really boring and plain looking; I never owned an Atari 2600 nor played it

If you had bothered to read the instructions you'd know how to escape the holes, without falling back in, every single time.

3:22 The collision detection on the 2600 is done in hardware and it's pixel perfect -- you totally touched that hole.

4:05 There are only 6 screens. They're arranged in a cube. The navigation is simpler than Adventure.

It's a fun and challenging game -- if you take a couple minutes to read the instructions and, consequently, know how to play it.
