West was a lot better team that season than Sprague, but the West coaches choked and almost lost that game. Stanley vs. old coach. Poor coaching cost them the Lake Oswego game too. He played his core group the whole game and they were burnt out the fourth quarter. Semifinal game was the same way. Calling a pitch to Hoover the running back deep in your own territory on a cold night when he'd spent most of it on the sideline was foolish. Result fumble. Game lost.
