Can anyone explain to me why Senna's car bottomed out so heavily through Tamburello on lap 6, and when it came to the fateful corner, the car slightly oversteered? Perhaps the force on the column in reaction to the oversteer caused the break? This is the thing, I can't make a decision and happily ignore evidence on either case. It is a gorgeous car though, shame about it's history though. RIP Senna from the UK.
Of course, the inevitable has come up here...Tamburello damn near killed Berger and Piquet 5 and 7 years earlier...and NOTHING was done about that corner, not even new tarmac. If Ayrton had really been THAT concerned about the car killing him, he would never have stepped into it, no matter how competitive or fiercely brave he was, until Williams fixed whatever the problem was.
the italian courts decision is final on this case the cause is clear , wikipedia ,its all there what caused the accident , the car was returned to williams then destroyed , engine went back to renault , suggest people read it ,
@rohan9376 - Just read that at wikipedia, but that can't be correct. Patrick Head said years ago, that Williams still has the wreck. And another interesting thing is, that Williams has deleted the last frames of sennas onboard-camera. They have done that at checking blackboxes etc. A few mechanics of sennas team have seen the original before it was changed and given to the court and FIA. They were not unredable or something else, they were just unreadable because they had to clean something.
well we probably never will find out what those frames tell but nothing can bring him back. for me it has been mystery so long time and only thing i could ever come up with as cause of accident it was mecanical failure in car what was never found or the evedence about it where destroyed on moment he crashed into wall.
The car was indeed returned to Williams, but it was destroyed as well as Ayrton´s helmet.
"The Williams FW16 which Ayrton Senna was driving when he was killed at Imola in 1994 has been destroyed by the Williams team. Helmet manufacturer Bell has returned the helmet the three-times champion was wearing at the time of the accident. It was incinerated last week."
it was not the cars fault there were a number of different reasons. there was a bump through the corner that grounded out the cars when they went round it, the tyres were cold due to the slowness of the safety car and by italian law a race should be immediatly cancelled if a death happens on the track which they ignored. dont just blame the car for sennas death there was more than just 1 contributing factor.
@NOXXism No one knows for sure if the steering column was the cause of the crash. The road surface on the tamborello corner in 1994 was in terrible condition and could just as easily have been the cause.
@ssssroryssss ofc it was the steering wheel. You can see from the footage and williams wouldn't go through hell to erase the black box and delete the last frames. If senna crashed because of the road everyone could have
@NOXXism I'm not saying there is no possibilitiy that the steering column was the cause. Please read my comment properly before commenting. Other drivers were complaining about the state of the Monza track at the time. The 2 HUGE bumps/ change in track surface could have caused the column to snap. The owners of Monza should get an equal amount of blame for Sennas death.

This is the only F1 car that i would refuse to drive. I love F1 and the cars, but this one is the only one i trully hate!
Not even if i got paid!
The weird thing is that i find this car beautiful, right from the moment it was unvailled in the 94 winter testing.

@krispragnell19 if the tyres were cold he would have crashed the lap before! The steering column broke. PERIOD

@ssssroryssss I think it would be rather harsh to blame the owners of Monza since the crash was at IMOLA. Dunce hat coming you're way......
