I cannot support this. As a true Alice Cooper fan, I will not. Compared to "Love It to Death", or "Killer", this is absolute shit. He actually used autotune. Oh how the mighty have fallen.
@IggyandtheStardust2 It's NOT autotune, it is a square wave. Auto tune is used to make people who can't sing sound in tune, this is not it. Just a little biy education for you.
Lol, just looking through the comments... it's an OPENING TRACK guys, it's not supposed to melt your face off, if you want that listen to "Raise Your Fist and Yell"
Let's face it; Alice have made few embarassing miss steps during his career. This tune/vocoder thing is one of them. It would work as a effect on some other song. But mixed with this certain modern sounding MTV-melody, it sounds really commercial and deliberate.
@ZZombyWooff An artist who doesn't take chances and try something different is no artist. Compare his 'miss steps' to a band that has hit a plateau and can't evolve. I'd support an artist that takes risks and 'falls on his face'. Like SPARKS he evolves and changes. You die if you don't evolve and change. Alice is alive and well!
Not a big fan of the autotune and this song is far from my favorite, but Alice Cooper is still by far my favorite musician and this song blows most other songs out of the water.
Ok here's why it sounds autotuned. In one of the songs on this album, kesha makes a cameo. it is required by law that atleast two songs from any given album with kesha in it be autotuned. So they autotuned keshas cameo, and this song.
Just love this song old school alice (remember the coop) so deep so much feeling i think this is one of his best tunes to date and feel that in someway it's got glen buxton on there with them in fact it could be about alice and his wife and the old band welcome back to our nightmares alice
Actually Alice addressed this and clarified that he was using a square sequencer here, not autotune. He correctly stated also, that autotune is strictly for the talentless.Unlike modern corporate music product models, like Beiber and other products like that,he is an artist
Great album, but I just hate the fact that everyone seems to be able to upload the new tracks on YouTube except me, they keep getting blocked in the whole world..
Or it is an ironic stick to poke fun at all those who constantly make fun and light of any artist that uses it. Using autotune =/= bad singer/musician
It adds to the atmosphere of the song, no doubt about it. I think he is a genius when it comes to making music. He has been rocking hard since the late 60's and looks like he is going to keep going. I still like The Last Temptation and the original Welcome To My Nightmare the best though.
I first heard Alice Cooper when my brother tested the amps on his new stereo (full blast). Then driving with my dad... then I got the Spark In The Dark CD. And I have always loved his music! Let's not call it autotune, let's call it robotic effect.
He isn't using auto tune to correct his pitching.. if he cared that much about singing so perfect he'd use it in more than one song on the entire album... he's using it as an effect.
@pitseleh6V6 Your last two comments from your account,"You're all idiots", "FAIL THIS FVCKING SUCKS AND YOUR ALL DOOMED" on the same Hollywood Undead video... you obviously have nothing better to do.
@TheScorpion667 why don't you suck his dick, such a fan boy. your going to be so embarrassed when you finally realize how dumb you are supporting this guy.
I got this album and was like HOLY SHIt it's gonna be so awesome! It started with the piano intro to "steven" so I was omg gonna be epic... then I heard the song and I was like awh :( I thought it was going to be like the 1975 album. Overall the album was good though and still made it seem like one giant nightmare.
There is nothing wrong with auto tune if you're using it artistically and not using it to cover up the fact you can't sing. I like the auto tune use here... it gives a floating in space type feeling and like his voice is just echoing in the emptiness... Like you're all alone lost... which is what he's singing about.... So it fits the atmosphere he's trying to build.
@PhoenixPhire22 Thats because what you're hearing IS NOT AUTO TUNE. This is what's known as a Square wave audio effect. It's nothing like auto tune which is meant to help those who can't sing sound in tune.. that's all. it doesn't give you a wave voice. On a positive note at least you got it!! what he was trying to achieve.
I wish he had of left the autotune out of this song. It sounds much better when we just hear his natural voice. Pity, as the autotune takes this song away from being a great song, to just being good.
You know what? As much as I respect other people's opinions, I have to say, the naysayers can suck it on this one. This whole album was a huge joyride for me. Coop really went to town to make W2MN something special, and it payed off. Every song tries something different, and with the except of maybe one or two weak tracks, pulls it off well. Leave it to Alice Cooper to make autotune sound cool!
calm down people hes just trying something different and if you noticed the entire song isnt just auto tuned. its just one song from the whole album that has a bit of auto tune in it. i think the album is great.
If you know about Allice Cooper you'll know he is willing to try anything.. Over "his" 26 studioalbums he has done pretty much everything.. pop/rock, ballads, hardrock, rock, Elvis-impressions, Glamrock, Pop... I think this songs sounds pretty awesome. Yes.. IT'S AUTOTUNE.. But I think Autotune can be nice if you use it right.. it's not the actual autotunes fault all so-called "pop stars" use it today. The guitar-solo kicks ass aswell !
@GeorgVanHalen of course friend, autotune is an instrument that must be used right and in acts like alice cooper fits really well. I love Alice Cooper because he wants to make things right, pop rock heavy metal or else, but in the apropriate way. Thats professionalism
@GeorgVanHalen It's not even autotune, he pointed out it's a studio effect that makes the voice more robotic. Done for effect and atmosphere rather than to hide shit vocals like other artists do. :P
@AmalamCooper - That's right! I was so caught up in the "autotune" discussion that I forgot that it isn't even autotune. Shame though that many seems to overlook the song because of a few lines of the robotic voice. I think "Welcome 2 My Nightmare" can be the best Alice Cooper album in a really long time (and yes, I really appreciate the 00-Alice Cooper overall).
@GeorgVanHalen Yeah, I really liked this album. I would prefer the song without the effect if I'm honest, I think it's a very profound and powerful song without robot-voice. I'm not fussed though, it's a superb track.
'Tis not autotune so much as voice reverb which has been in use since the early 70's or so. In all honestly I didn't quite know what to make of it from the initial listen, but after a couple more it seems to fit.
Basically, don't dismiss it right off for nonsensical reasons.
@MrJiraya69 It's weird to see someone saying Alice Cooper he used to know and Dragontown in same sentence. This is much closer to Alice that I know than Dragontown ever was. Actually I think Dragontown is one of the worst albums he has ever made and very far away from his own style. And this song is much better than any song on that album.
@MrJiraya69 I didnt say this is closer to his style than Trash, Hey Sttopid or Along Came a Spider. I said it is closet to his style than Dragontown. Actually I think it eve closer than Brutal Planet and I am deeply in love in that album. I also love Trash and I think that is pretty much his style, more than this, but even more than Dragontown or Brutal Planet.
@MrJiraya69 I think too that on the first time this song sounded just weird and so did most of the album, but after I listened it few times, I realised that it is not only weird, it is also pretty damn good. And this song, just amazing. And true what you say, fighting over music is stupid. We all have our own things we like.
IMO, he's using the autotune to represent the "new era" nightmare Alice is having. The opening to the song is music from the original nightmare which is a great introduction and then it turns to a new nightmare...
