I understand somewhat what this videos saying. Boxing really shines with its footwork and hooks(my favorite punch btw its power can be devistating). Wing chun with its deflections and parries and leg kicks. And xingyi with its variety of attacks takedowns and power. Combine these 4elements and you would have a really good stand up fighting form. Dance around your opponent with boxings footwork, cant dodge use wing chuns deflections injure with knee kicks. Come in with xingyi my opinion at least
Stick to boxing dude u got the martial arts all wrong anf whoever dont agree.with bruce lee u r all losers u cant say a legend dont knw wat hes talkin about wen all yu are is a rookie..for real
i respect n e fighter who trains diligently but i feel u dont understand the principles of wing chun completely. A parry and attack r the same thing a "block" does not exist in wing chun only redicting positions. there is not only chain punches there is uppercuts, hooks/pheonix eye, darting fingers wich u said :) 8 different kicks and various attacks with n e part of the body u are taught to hit the target by any means and the easiest way not to get hit...DONT B THERE lol
Xingyi is not just moving forward, it's more like moving in a straight horizontal line. However, its movements feature circular motions as well because to attack from such a close proximity and using internal principles, one needs to coil in order to produce power.
Nice video! Informative, and clearly well informed. Keep it up my friend.
Bruce Lee was demonstrating this type of stuff 40 years ago. Good to see that people are still discovering it. I bet some of you didn't know that Muhammad Ali got one of his most devastating punches indirectly from Bruce? Ali was a student of Jhoon Rhee and Jhoon taught him the correct usage of the vertical fist, which Jhoon had actually learned from Bruce. So that's the Bruce Lee - Muhammad Ali connection. You can probably google it but it's also detailed in Jhoon Rhee's book "Bruce Lee and I".
@Jank143 right on! Yeah, alot of people don't know that Muhammad Ali had a huge connection in the martial arts. Ali was actually awarded and honorary black belt. Bruce Lee wasn't perfect. I didnt agree with everything he said, but "absorb what is useful, and discard what is useless"...that changed the world. His analysis is like the comparison between religion. Martial arts are alot like religions. But, bruce was brave enough to say that they ALL had flaws. None were perfect. Thank you sir
I love your videos, dude. I found something I thought you might appreciate. YouTube "wing chun hook punch" by user "shifudan' for an interesting interpretation. I believe he combines the elbow in the 3rd empty hand form with the stance turning to make a hook.
@36predator Styles are good......"Initially". A style gives you a base and something to build off of. However, at the end of the day, and in the middle of a fight, its YOUR style that counts. So, even though I practice different styles, I make them "my own". I use the proven methods that work for me, that I have tested personally, and absorb it. Thanks for sharing your insight
I have to say, I clicked on the link to this video randomly, and could not have been more pleased about the results. You are an astute fellow, appreciate what you were saying about the core similarities in various striking arts. Thanks for taking the time to shoot/upload an excellent video!
Although I don't have any experience in street fights, and I'm quite inexperienced in Wing Chun (I mean, I've been doing it for 8 months or so) (and even though we were taught how to use our elbow (Which is not really "WC", but .... qouting my Sifu when he was asked about "headbutting": "Everything can be used as a weapon if you have to")) I wouldn't really try to do an elbow strike in a real fight.... takes "damn long" time, and your elbow heals the second most slowly of our joints.
@Greathoof No offense to your sifu, but the Bong Sau position can easily be translated into an improvised elbow strike. Elbow strikes are taught in Wing Chun in most WC schools. Not only that, the elbow is a VERY hard surface, if your hitting someone in the face with an elbow, I think your opponent will be in more danger than you. Ive never hurt my elbow hitting someone, the only time I hurt my elbow is when I get submited in wrestling practice or if I over-extend my straight punch.
@Greathoof to me it depends on what part of your elbow.. if you every put on gloves..and your blocked.. i know times when punching someone and hitting someones knuckle..so watchout for the softness from outside near joints,, one must learn how to use the elbow.. forearm, and tricep in unison.. agreeable elbows knees, ankles take awhile to heel.. but to use your body knuckles as an advantage not only offensively.. your natural tool.. will destroy another's tools, and mindset.. 8 months ..nice
@walking1way I think using the knuckles is the most dangerous, because they are easy to break. In a real fight without gloves, your fist often catches peoples forehead, elbows, and gets your fist hurt, thats why I like palm strikes/slaps alot, I only punch if I know im gonna hit. So, I like to build accuracy instead of wildly swinging. Watch a Muay Thai fight. As long as you dont use the elbow from too far away, you shouldnt hurt your elbow
@randyds5 exactly randyds5.. interesting when greathoof said wingchun doesnt use elbows.. i think all.. etc. use the elbow.. the thing is.. the energy the force the way to not only use it to another.. but the complimenting of how the other parts use.. it like how you stress.. if you do a bong sau.. you can hurt your elbow.. but if you grab someone.. too hard and they move.. you can torque yourself out too.. so.. no 1 ft elbows..can get bridge.. need more energy too.. reposition
Great video mate, especially the xingyi info. I do think that you can use compact versions of many of the xingyi strikes as parries though, although you have more experience in it than i do.
I do a modern style of wing chun that is heavily influenced by boxing and Filipino martial arts. There is the official youtube channel 5ElementWingChunUK which has a trailer, and there are a couple of older videos on the channel "lordnore" if you want to check it out. It's really interesting stuff.
@IFE10M XingYi does have some subtle and unique traps, wrist grabs, and penetrating strikes that go over the opponents, but I still dont think they are as developed as the defensive skills of wing chun and boxing.
After learning about xingyiquan I always was curious about it, but thanks to these vids breaking down its applications, I'm getting more and more interested in it.
make some more video i want to know why most kungfu today are water down or soften up version

@TheEvilReverend If you get a practical teacher, xingyiquan is quite impressive. You just have to have the right mindset
