    你話慚唔慚愧

  • You speak like an ABC (American born Chinese). Well done! Cantonese is not the easiest language to learn. I understood you perfectly. This video was made in 2010, my guess is that your cantonese must be fluent by now!

  • Wow, I am a Cantonese speaker, and I've never heard any foreigner speak Cantonese so well after learning the language for only two and a half years !

You are doing very well, and keep up with the good work.

Usually, English speaking people cannot master the intonation of Cantonese cos we've got 9 tones, and the word would become an absolutely different thing with only a very slight difference.

Trust me as a Cantonese speaker, you are doing very well.

  • @vickyleong Did you grow up in Hong Kong? I grew up in America, but my parents speak Cantonese in the house, so I can speak it. I think I learned it based on sound, because I know nothing about tones in Cantonese lol

  • Although your accent is not very native, but I can definitely understand what you're saying and it is also very clear. Keeping going!

  • You've done a really great job. I cannot imagine I could learn Cantonese if I hadn't learn it as mother tongue. It is very foreign for an English speaker.

  • it's so sweet that u learn it to know more about her family :)

  • You have done a very good job. I am a Hong Komg people and I can totally understand what you say.

  • thumbs up

  • you are brilliant. i'm so touched by the reason you learn Cantonese. keep up your good work :)

  • u r always welcome to learn cantonese, should u need help, just let us know . my pleasure to offer assistance anytime!! Welcome to HK !! But pls remember, in HK , it is not allowed to eat or drink in MTR , or do what the mainlanders do, i.e .............. !! Pls check on the utube!! I believe u would respect us and so do HK ppl !!

  • hey man, how about proposing in Cantonese? =P

  • oh, u speak v good already!

    add oil !!!

  • Respect !!! Where did you learn Cantonese? Can you speak in Mandarin too? I'm impressed.

  • Very good indeed!

  • Amazing.

  • To learn Cantonese for 2 years and speak it like that is pretty good. The accent is not too hard to get rid of, especially since yours isn't so bad; just listen to people speaking cantonese ^^

  • if you really want to improve your cantonese

    you can call me

    just pm me

  • I think learning Cantonese is hard becoz there is 9 tones in Cantonese.

Your Cantonese is even better than my English-v- but i have learned English for 12years but u have learned for 2 years only. OTL|||

  • Very impressive. I don't even think Cantonese ABCs speak that well! Kudos! Cantonese is very challenging, and since it's much harder than mandarin i think people always get more of a shock when non asians pull it off. At least I do.

Bruce Lee spoke cantonese- another reason why it's cool.

  • To be honest, this is actually very good! I speak cantonese and i understood the things u've said :) Keep it going! Looking forward to see more new videos of you speaking cantonese

  • Speak well ! I'm from guangdong . I just a 15 boy , i love english .can we make friend

  • 其實你識聽已經好利害!!!!

  • wow u should be confident!ur cantonese is excellent for a foreigner and u barely have an accent.i could only noticed a few minor pronunciation problems but there were totally understandable!and u r such a good husband to learn a new language for your wife!

  • You are good. I admire the fact that you put in so much efforts to learn a new language.

  • Keep up! Amazing!

  • u r pretty excellent !

  • It just takes practice. I was lucky that my Mom was adamant that I speak at least Cantonese even if I can't write/read in Chinese... so for many years, I only spoke Cantonese at home. :)

  • wow, you are spot on!

  • Pretty good, support.

  • Pretty good man! Well done! I wish I could speak English as good as you are speaking Cantonese, even though I have been learning English since we were in the kindergarten. Keep it up!!!

  • Man, how can you learn this "one of the most difficult languages in the world" in 2 years? You are amazing!

  • Preeeetty good !

  • Your Cantonese is amazingggg~ Better than me x_x

This is embarrassing but being a Chinese born in Canada with no one teaching you your mother language, I can't speak Cantonese well x_x I can't even make proper sentences! when I visited my family in HK, I spoke in French and English with my brother all the time, making my family in HK think that we don't understand Cantonese at all.. We understand, just can't speak well .___.

I'm jealous of how well you speak Cantonese >A<

    Good luck man~

  • @kawaiiikyou i'm in the exact same position as u! except I can't communicate effectively with my bro in French :o i'm guessing u live in a francophone community? or in immersion?

  • @ClamatoJuiceify Yeah, I live in Quebec and it's required to speak French here x_x Oh how much I hate French~...

  • @kawaiiikyou you're lucky. I'm around the Toronto area and I can't for the life of me learn french :(

  • @ClamatoJuiceify I don't know if I should say you're lucky or not. Sure, if you speak French then it makes it easier for you to communicate with people in other countries when traveling but French is a really complicated language.. With all the grammar and other rules x_x This comes from a girl who had been learning French since she was born =A=

But if you want to learn French, you could always take online lessons :P Can't really recommend any sites though, sorry ><

  • @ClamatoJuiceify Seriously in Toronto nowadays, you have better use of your mandarin/cantonese/hindi/panjabi/russian than french LOL

  • I think ur Cantonese is good. If i am not watching the video, just by listening. I could not imagine is an american speaking Cantonese, u might i am exaggerated this, but i do think the cantonese u spoke just like a ppl from hk :D

Appreciate a lot!! :D keep work on it :)

add oil~ (do u know what is means? :) )

  • 你好劲!

  • you're awesome man! keep it up!

  • NO THICK ACCENT AT ALL!

  • That was actually pretty good, although it sounds kinda funny towards the end of each word. Try speeding up if you can and try not to sound unsure of yourself. Keep it up! :)

  • @oelung haha i'm like chinese and i speak like that. Damn canadian born-ness D: I think he is trying to put the words together so that's why hes kind of slow. Big ups to him tho ;)

  • 好欣賞你!

  • Good work. By the way you're very good looking to.

  • power of love

  • not bad, support!!!

  • very good.

  • hahahahaha

ur Cantonese is good!! keep on! ;)

  • 講得幾好:)

  • You... Are... AMAZING! I feel bad now... I'm Chinese but I don't even know how to speak Cantonese!

  • wow you're really good!

  • You are amazing. I just started learning Cantonese and feel overwhelmed! But you are inspiring me! How did you learn it so well? What are your tips for studying this language? I would really appreciate your advice! :)

  • @Amishgurls i have tips for you watch more cantonese drama its so easy to learn like that i am japanese but speak alot of languages over 8

  • Not gonna lie you have a very good accent, and i respect you for learning a completely new language because of your wife :)

  • You speak cantonese better than me....

  • u can work as SPY in china :D

  • as a local HongKong and Cantonese as my mother tounge.... I must say your are doing very very good actually.... just the accent but this is not the main part. I can fully understand what you said. Just keep it slow, and keep up the good work!!! COOL!

  • 好流利啦!!!

  • 幾好哇

  • You are doing very well! As of right now, it seems you have a problem transitioning your sentences, but it will improve as you learn more vocabularies. Good job!

P.S: Can't believe you're doing this for your fiance. You're so sweet!!

  • good.............

  • wow! u speak cantonese well. even i can understand you. u might want to work on the inflections of some words though. but other than tht, it's rlly good ;D

  • hi, you have a good cantonese slang, i would say you get an A- for it.

actually you are using the correct cantonese slang as in "kuok". the "kok" is the prununciation of the young HK residents. in China, the original cantonese says kuok.

keep it up, even u mixed it with a little bit of english, it does not matter, as most HK residents and other cantonese speaking people are also mixing cantonese with other languages. I am from Malaysia which is a multi-lingual country.

  • You only study Cantonese for 2 years??? Wow, your Cantonese is very good, very impressive, much much better than my English....!!! :)

  • A piece of recommendation: 美"國". The "國" sounds a bit strange because you should speak "guok" rather than "gok". However, this is only some delicate details which should bear in mind :). We can 100% understood what you're saying!

  • don't worry, you are good! :)

  • ching chong chang! LMAO!

  • @DEViUS7 Lol....RACIST!

  • Nice man, your cantonese is not bad! It is quite a hard language to learn after all!

  • I would give 95 to you, only few words have a bit of an accent

  • wow, your cantonese is very good!!!

  • I'M FROM HK TOO, 加油!支持你。

  • Im a Cantonese why do i feel that you speak Cantonese better than me? I love you are doing this for your fiancee.

  • You speak pretty well! I was born in Kowloon but immigrated to the US when I was seven and lost my ability to speak Cantonese because my parents worked a lot and they decided to speak their own regional dialect.

  • you're cantonese is amazing and is not too different from a native speaker. keep up the good work and congradulations on your marriage.

  • can see u working hard to learn . well done !!! support u~

  • its very very hard to learn a brand new language in an adulthood, good and nice..

  • Lol this guy looks like he's from waynes world

  • Narrative for the non-english speakers!

How are you my name is Gok tim in chinese my English name is Tim Cunningham. I am an American. Why would this American want to learn cantonese?

Because my future wife was born in Hong Kong and usually she and her parents communicate via cantonese. Thus it intrigues me to know what they are talking about.

Also, I would like to understand their family a bit more and so far I have been learning

  • cantonese for a little over two years and have not perfected it, and I also

know I have a lot more to learn. I would like to make these videos to see and comment on my cantonese via this video or my blog. Thank you for watching.

  • wow dude your canto is almost perfect. you definitely don't have a thick accent!

  • Watch a lot of TVB dramas. That's where I learned all my Canto and I'm Cantonese so it just goes to show how much they have taught me.

  • What? To be honest, you speak Chinese pretty darn well for a foreigner who hasn't lived in HK. Good job. But more importantly, the reason you chose to learn Chinese was very touching. *Applaud*

  • nice shirt

  • you speak well and i can understand what you're saying :D
