it's dubai's governments own fault for not investing on research and development and science. they did the most irresponsible thing by investing only on real estate and tourism. they thought just becuase they built pretty apartment buildings and office spaces that people would just come and move in to a really strict country where there justice system sucks. now all the foreigners want nothing to do with dubai. the economic crisis has hurt dubai a lot.

I see where you are coming from, but Dubai is a city state ( a city operates independently from the state in terms of laws and governance) so although the country is somewhat strict, the city isn't. I do agree with you that the government did make many poor choices with respect to investment choices. Now with respect to the national debt, a 50 billion dollar debt isn't really that much when put into perspective and is easily dwarfed by the 12 trillion dollar debt that the states is in.

That was new for me!!!! No tourist are going to Dubai. Those who go to Dubai has something to do there. Me and you probably went there as tourists...but for a country depending on tourism should have at least 2-3 million tourists each year. you are not talking about vienna or somewhere in Spain or Italy..How about greece!!

These countries has a very large numbers of tourists each year, yet their tourism incomes don't ammount to 20% of their totall annual resources.

I was in Dubai for two weeks.

Walking in Dubai brings you the feeling that everything is false and fake. these buildings and nice streets will only last as long as there is still oil underneath. Once the oil is over, everything will fall down. The AUE is not investing in people. You may stay 30 years in the country without getting citezinship. Whish means: Once the oil is over every forigner will leave and the others will go back to their camels!! You know, "thaqafit bol al-ba3eer" !!

I don't think we want to compare between us and other countries such as US. since 1971 Dubai became one of seven emirates in UAE and that year the population was less than 180,000. At least we could increased our ranks in the world.

Now you talking! I agree with you. I know there are many positive sides in the Emirate. I only wished the Emirates to look 50-60 years ahead. Accept foreigners by allowing them to have the freedom even if they wanted to take up citizenships. If not, then foreigners will remain foreigners and they will leave back to their countries once the oil is finished!! I was talking about the far future. A country should invest in people like the Europeans do. In Europe you are a citizen after only 5 years.

uh your wrong, Abu Dhabi which is part of the UAE is dependent on oil. Without Abu Dhabi's help Dubai would be in 100% ruin by now. Dubai is depending alot on Abu Dhabi's loans due to their real estate bubble collapsing.
