firstly I can't beleive you didn't raise the gambler on the first hand when you had a full house and secondly you were very lucky choosing the right guy to have a gunfight with as it could easily have been someone else you didn't have the knoweldge of who he was. Many a time I was on the receving end of that one where I'd killed the blacksmith or the mayor or something.
Another addictive game which helped me to screw up my 'O' Levels. Atmospheric and multi-faceted. The only criticism being that you'd put in the hard yards with the colt 45, liquor and poker but then had no control over getting arrested after moving on to a new town.
I remember going through the mountains and I could never quite get to the destination on horse in less than 15 days due to the freak number of snowstorms that added days onto the journey! One of the better spectrum games :)
My memories of this game consist mostly of R: Tape Loading Error, as I had a dodgy copy (ahem) that went a bit wonky during loading. I remember wincing when it got to the bit where the tape pitch-bent down for a second or two :) Still, the few times my Spectrum was feeling tolerant enough to run it, it was quite an enjoyable game, with Dope Wars style buy stuff, go somewhere else, sell it for a profit, but with gun fights and snakes and things. Simple graphics but addictive gameplay.
I recall this game being the reason i got into adventure games, it was pure class. No moving graphics as such just the occasional static screen, but so addictive i recall either completing the game or going mighty close. Adventure games like Hobbit, Gremlins might`ve been more polished but for playability this one`s up there, nice post m8.
i used to play a firebird game by the name of bombscare but i can no longer remember much about it other than it was a 3d isometric affair. it would be much appreciated if you could put it up at some point and relieve my soggy old brain of bombscare memory re-lapse syndrome.
I think you remember more than you're letting on, mildred! A nice looking game which you wouldn't throw out of bed, well, maybe the next morning, then give a false phone number to! I can't wait to play this again!
Double posting, eh! Looks like you're a spammer!:)
Firebird were the software division of BT. They got into everything where money could be made. They released some decent stuff though, such as...struggles to remember! Oh yeah, Booty and Don't Buy This! Not that they programmed any of it though!

A brilliant game! It takes a few goes to get to grips with. Pirate tapes didn't make it easier without instructions.

For 1984 this is pretty good. Well polished with a slightly different approach to adventuring. 100% proof!

It looks like my previous comment disappeared so at the risk of double posting I'll write it again... :)
I heard that Firebird were owned by British Telecom. Does anyone know if that's true?
I'm surprised to see a Firebird title from 1984 since I always thought of them as appearing much later... and they didn't normally use BASIC either!!
