Sonar = Concentrates on Audio recording and handles little MIDI.

Reason = You cannot record audio into it but it provides you with a virtual rack where you can add samplers, synthesizers, sequencers, drum machines, loop players and effects.

If you have both, Sonar and Reason, you are set.

no, you can only work with the vst's provided by reason, but you can rewire reason into cubase and use any vst you want in cubase/sonar/pro tools etc.

Reason is a really easy program to get started with, it's all laid out there in front of you. There's so much you can do with it too, from this kind of stuff to techno or even rock music. I would highly recommend it.

Am I right in thinking that you need the MIDI connection in order to record in Reason? I've got a MicroKontrol and haven't the first clue how to align the sliders; etc either. I've read the manual over and over, guess I'm just dumb! Any help most appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not sure what you're asking, but you should be able to auto-detect the korg in the midi settings...

you can rightclick any slider/control etc and choose Edit remote mapping, then move the control on the korg to learn the midi mapping... check korg website for reason mapping also
