  • Hey guys I got a stupid question,,I got a 1998 Dodge Caravan 3.3 v6

I replaced the power booster, master, two leaky lines, break splitter, blled the shit out of them,,but still no breaks, they pump up untill i start the van then they go to the floor.

could it be vacume problem,i sprayed the hoses with starting fluid but no leaks??

Im stumped iv done alot of breaks and never had this problem before

  • @brucekirk89 Call Master Power Brakes, you can find their number on line....It sounds like either low vacuum or your combo valve. It could be your front rotors. The problems your having could be a number of alot of things, you could have purchased a reject booster...There is to many things that could go wrong with brakes to really say what is wrong with it. Pete

  • @diyautoschool thxs Pete,,I replaced the master twice thinking that was the problem, and were is the combo valve at and waht is it LOL.I replaced the break splitter or proportining valve thingy what ever u wanna call it LOL

  • this would be great for you Pete

  • i think you can order a kit for about 600 bones to convert front buick brakes from drums to disk,, i found a donor car myself but i opted to keep the drum setup and just rebuild them to keep it all original.

Nailhead = small valves in head.

  • looks like Chevy rotors. Did the calipers clear the brakets? like the problem i had the shit is made in CHINAAAAAAAA!!!!

  • JOHNDEEBANK.....I have a 1954 Special 2 dr ht... 3 spd ......The little motor is a 264 nailhead

    ..

  • very good video pete lots of information on putting disc brakes on a very rare 55 buick special 2 dr. coupe with the 324 nailhead v8..very rare indeed and beautiful at that..I want one myself and is one of my dream cars

  • wow who would dislike theses videos WOW! what a bunch of goof ya frigging rights man

  • @lilbiGpena Eh who cares. There are plenty of us that do like and enjoy Pete's videos so it doesn't matter. Let em' chooch on a tampon if you know what I mean.

  • @PonyPower71 yeah petes a cool guy . haha frigging rights you did!

  • @lilbiGpena Heh heh yeah sure did. Pug fan too I see.

  • @PonyPower71 haha yep pug army all they way lol . its all was cool to see another pug fan out her on the youtube

  • In 1964 I bought my first car. A used 1956 Buick. Apparently it was ordered with a standard transmission on the column when new. I have never seen another standard Buick. The '55 is so much like mine but the dash is different for one thing.

    John, Canada.

  • @JOHNDEEBANK They also made the 3 speed on the column in 55 as well. It was actually the most popular Buick made, if you visit my other sight SWRNC, you will see where I am doing a concours resto on a 55 3speed on the column buick right now. Pete

  • @JOHNDEEBANK I remember a '57 Buick 2dr sedan in Boston, MA in the early '60's. It had a "selector" 3 speed column shift. I heard (but never saw) of a '61 Buick Wildcat convertible stick on the column. It was ordered by mistake, the dealer failed to specify automatic Even the early '50's all had the Dynaflow. Trivia: some '53-'54 Olds had dynaflows due to a fire at the Hydramatic plant. Jeesh, I must be old............Art

  • A conversation with a Kelsey-Hayes engineer addressed the fact that wheels in the '70's had to be upgraded to withstand the greatly increased rolling wheel flexing for radial tires. The early wheels WILL crack with the radials. They will not pass modern SAE standards. Keep looking, my '81 Cad had discs, radials and full hbcaps, all stock.

  • @planefloat Thats an interesting statement with alot of information. Thanks for the pass on. Pete

  • i used abs brake for my fronts. stock rims work perfect.

  • I've tried in vain to find a newer disc brake wheel that my hubcaps will fit on, with no luck. The 58 Caddy's have these little fingers all around the hubcap, and they only seem to fit the oem wheels. I have 77 Caddy disc brake wheels on there now that fit fine but I have no hubcaps on the front and it looks horrible. ABS says they have the kit that uses smaller GM metric calipers and a different 12"" rotor that will allow the stock wheels to be put back on.

  • @LowHHR The owner is actually a 23 year old girl. Rat Rod Girl.. Her hubby wouldn't let her drive it without good brakes.

  • If it's a scarebird kit, there's a good chance the wheels aren't gonna fit back on the car. I'm still kickin my ass for puttin on a scarebird kit on my 58 Cadillac. Looks like crap with 77 wheels on it and the hubcaps wont fit either. I shoulda gone with ABS Power brakes out of California. They have a kit that the original wheels will fit back on

  • @Cadmannn Lets see what happens, ya never know till the story comes to an end. Pee

  • @Cadmannn scarebird always makes improvements to his kits. most brakes kits out there will not work with the original rim but will with modern day rims of the same size. i have 2 1964 impalas one had the stock original rim and did not work the other had diffrent rims of the same size but made in the late 80's and work fine maybe thats the case with you, try a diffrent rim i just check his website on his kits for 1964 impalas looks like he has solve all the problems with impalas at least

  • is this the scarebird brake Mount bracket kit looks like it

  • @soloM81 Hummm === Maybe so--lets not give the secret away. Pete

  • Hey Pete, I bought a used drive over electric lift earier this year. 50+ years of turnin' wrenches without any kind of lift. It was $350 and $60 for delivery. BEST $410 I've ever spent! Runs on 120v. Your viewers can check it out on YouTube: Lark, installing Mustang II suspension, parts 1-6 The '55 Buick probably has the 267, Roadmasters and Centuries had the 322. Like you said, the parts never fit!...Art

  • o man does this peak my interest lol,i used to have a maroon 55' special with the 322 nailhead 62k original miles ran like a sewing machine, only thing wrong was a little rust and the brakes were horrible.....man do i miss ol' Bessie

  • my god... what a beautiful car man... keep up the good work Pete! :D
