Okay, lets be for real here. Twilight may be a best selling phenomenon, but it ain't no Harry Potter, that's for sure! I mean, why even compare the two? Is it because JK Rowling has been untouchable and now all of a sudden some other series is selling big? Hate to break it to you, but HP isn't going anywhere whereas the Twilight saga will fade with time.
People, you need to realize that J.K. Rowling took 5 years to write the first Harry Potter book while Stephanie Meyer wrote Twilight in a couple weeks not even intending for it to be a book. Even though I do prefer the Harry Potter books you have to admit that Meyer has talent on some level seeing as she became so successful.

yep i love HP. its a classic now! and SO much better plot and especially writing. its the first thing i noticed when i read twilight, the writing. but eventually i got over it and enjoyed the story for what it was: entertaining but HP is #1 for me :) the next movies will be better than the books tho. im sure.
I hate Twilight. XP It made me laugh and i don't think it was supposed to.
But I would never in a million years dream of actually BURNING the book like some are doing. I just donated my old copy to the local library so others who do like it can read for once instead of watching tv or something. Reading is good for the soul!

I think people who hate it, mostly come to hate it after they read them. And some of them are offended by the book series, and offended by the over-obsessive fans. Personally, I believe people are entitled to their opinions, like or dislike the books, and I don't feel someone should be hated because they don't like the books.

To me, the Twilight books are like a guilty pleasure. They may not be the best pieces of literature ever written but me and my friends love them all the same.

Look at Stephenie and James Cameron, the guy who made The Abyss - that idea came to him in a dream. Iron Maiden's Steve Harris penned some well known songs based on dreams. And let's not forget Joseph, who dreamed about wheat sheafs, stars, the sun, and the moon, and became the viceroy of Egypt. Dream on, but do something about it!

Agree. Whenever I feel bad about myself and think I'm a loser (teenage mood swings for the most part), I always say to myeslef I could be worse and be thinking about nothing but sex with Edward because I have no life or goals for my near future. Seriously, all my one friend was truly interested in when she was at my house was RE-reading BD. Every few minutes she would drop what she was doing to read a few more pages.

The comparison comes from marketing. The only similarity between TL & HP is the marketing. Except in the last book where Bella suddenly becomes terrific at life after sucking at it for so long, much like HP did from the get go.

I love Harry Potter even more...when I did read the Twilight books I had a hard time getting through them because they're boring and there is alot of pointless storylines and I also had to edit them as I read becaues the writing is so horrible. it is a little cliched and it does have a slight streak of misogyny(spell check?) in it but something about it is making it a little compelling and addictive to those who read it i wouldn't understand the whole point of the movie if i didn't read the book but its still great.

Don't you mean the Deathly Hallows Epilogue? At least JKR meant for that one to be something like a joke (sounding like a fanfic and all). Fans welcomed the strange names in the end. The first three books of the Twilight saga already left me highly disappointed with Meyer, and just hearing about the fourth has given me the strong opinion that Meyer is not going to get anywhere in terms of literary greatness.
The thing is though, Meyers is still a very young writer. Seeing as her first books were bestsellers, think how she'll grow from that and produce BETTER works. If she sticks with writing and keeps getting better, then she won't leave you disappointed. Gotta be positive, right?

That was possibly one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen. All of the fangirls (note: NO GUYS) and Stephanie Meyer looked like all they could think about was 'OMGEE I'M ON TEEVEE!', the interviewer obviously hadn't heard of the books until they told him he was doing this segment, and the blatant Harry-Potter dissing just pissed the socks off of me. yep i love HP. its a classic now! and SO much better plot and especially writing. its the first thing i noticed when i read twilight, the writing. but eventually i got over it and enjoyed the story for what it was: entertaining but HP is #1 for me :) the next movies will be better than the books tho. im sure.

Hm...I'm 29 and I know a 19, 23 & 36 year old "girls" who love the books. To add to that list I also know a 25 year old boy who has also read the books and likes them. We may not be camping outside Robert Pattinson's house to scream our heads off at him, but speaking as an English teacher, I don't think everybody can do what she has done. If that were possible I'd be doing it as well...and I honestly can't. So if you say that you can, then please indulge us. We'd love to read something of yours.

Also it's about vampire which there's tons of them out there already. As a novel writer she's great, despite I never read any of her books. I love Harry Potter even more...when I did read the Twilight books I had a hard time getting through them because they're boring and there is alot of pointless storylines and I also had to edit them as I read becaues the writing is so horrible. The Harry Potter series (I still don't understand this comparison) is brilliant from Start to finish and you just get lost in the world. JK Rowling is such an amazing author. I will always adore those books.

Harry Potter and Twilight CANNOT be compared! Harry Potter is fantasy/adventure and Twilight is romance/adventure, aslo when is wizards/magic and one is just vampires. There are too many differencs, the only real similarity is that both series have a huge legion of fans! That's it!

Just think back to the Half Blood Prince Epilogue. It's infinitely worse.

Don't you mean the Deathly Hallows Epilogue? At least JKR meant for that one to be something like a joke (sounding like a fanfic and all). Fans welcomed the strange names in the end. The first three books of the Twilight saga already left me highly disappointed with Meyer, and just hearing about the fourth has given me the strong opinion that Meyer is not going to get anywhere in terms of literary greatness.

I know! I literly suffer if I can't talk to someone about the books at least once a day! We even got our friend hooked on them and she hardly ever reads books but with Twilight NM and E she can't put them down!

That was possibly one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen. All of the fangirls (note: NO GUYS) and Stephanie Meyer looked like all they could think about was 'OMGEE I'M ON TEEVEE!', the interviewer obviously hadn't heard of the books until they told him he was doing this segment, and the blatant Harry-Potter dissing just pissed the socks off of me. I'm with you, xredefine. Even though I try not to compare the two as I think they're in different leagues, when it comes down to it, HP PWNS.
