  • I watch the Atom Ant Cartoon Network groovie and it finally makes sense

  • screw this!! i would simply teleport like that monkey did!

  • Anybody else see Hitler at 1:48?

  • 2:45 "if you stand out in the fallout... like burt"

  • I knew that this shit seems very silly, but imagine that you're not close enough to an atomic explosion to be instantly killed; this advice is actually quite sound.

  • we watched it in our english leasons...

    I like our teacher :D

  • how is putting your jacket over you saving you from an atomic bomb?

  • @VicodinKing91 it was 1951 and the USSR had detonated their first atomic bomb. The US government had to reassure the public, in some way, that they would be safe if the bomb were ever dropped. It may sound totally stupid, but at the time very few understood the potential damage that a nuclear bomb could do, let alone the radiation. It seemed to do the trick at the time, and, if it weren't for McCarthy (amongst others), could have gone some way in preventing mass hysteria. ^.^

  • 7:35 th glass won't go flying the bus will

  • 7:30 o i think we all now that a moving bus is very safe

  • If I lived back then I'd have trolled everyone I could with a powerful flash light!

  • They had some pretty tough tables that could protect them from an atomic explosion.

  • yep covering your head with simple newspaper will save you from falling objects, so you can make sure that you die from radiation poisoning instead

  • I'm here cus of the iron giant. Thumbs up for an animated classic

  • I was born in 89, I lived the late 90's and the first decade of the 21st century, I had troubles in my life but I cannot imagine to live in such time as this...

Imagine you are living with a fear that one day that siren will go off, and for those who weren't naive and knew what an Atomic Bomb was, and someday that siren goes off.

You might just well bury yourself cause you know Duck and Cover won't do shit.

Imaging hearing that siren, its like hearing Death itself screaming at your ears.

  • Comment removed

  • Wouldn't the newspaper

  • 4:41 these not made siren like tht D:

  • Fallout anyone? :<

  • Notice how they don't say "Safe", they only say "Safer".

  • the other day my teacher showed us this. i have heard the atomic bomb song before and i was like "oh this is where the audio is from." my teacher said we would do a mini tour of the school, and he had a paper mushroom cloud made, and he also said that the soviet Russians like to wear red. just after that another teacher with a red shirt walked by. when we got back to the classroom, he played a bomb siren and yelled "DUCK AND COVER!"

    It was fun.

  • If having a picnic when the flash goes off, try using the picnic blanket or a newspaper to shield yourself from the heat of a million suns...

  • An inch thick desk will protect me from an atomic bomb? Sheeeeaaaaahhhh rriiiiiight!

  • "many other dangers that are around us all the time" they say, and view the only nigga in the classroom :P

  • If they survive the blast theyd die from the radioacive poisoning

  • @ninjamanfella if the bomb was far enough away the blast wouldnt effect much but still might bring the building down however the radioavieing poisning may not spread that far as the blast :/

  • I'm surprised they taught you to that wood would protect you from a giant fireball and no one second guessed them...

  • @mensch454

    Vietnam

    U mad?

  • if I was a kid and watched this during the cold war I would shit myself

  • Technically, when that happens and you`re out in the open you don`t have many other options. It`s better than staying upright since at least you make a smaller profile and debris is a little less likely to hit you. It`s a small consolation but it`s better than nothing. Depending on how far away from the blast you are it could increase your odds of survival

  • 28 forgot to duck and cover...

  • Then: Duck and cover. Today: Duck, cover...and accept death.

  • @ 1:47 IT'S HITLER, HE'S ALIVE!1111one

  • Why is there a turtle mascot? Shouldn't it be a duck?

  • lmao! i remember watching this in american history

  • YAY COMM. ARTS!!!

  • "We have to cover up in our own way".

    By going into a fridge.

  • 6:40 "Tony knows the bomb can explode any time of the year, day or night, and he's ready for it". The Cold War in a nutshell.

  • Doctor Steel! Doctor Steel!

  • We got lucky that there was never a Nuclear War (especially here in the Tennessee Valley). Cause there was no effin way any of that duck & cover (bologna) would've saved anyone. I'm also kind've skeptical that those bomb shelters would've done anything. But hey it was the 50's.

  • hiding under a desk is the ting to do during a atomic bomb -.- idiots

  • But what about radiation

  • "duck and cover" is another way of saying "kiss your ass goodbye"

  • the newspaper can save your life!

  • I do this every time I use the microwave, never been injured once!

  • ya because ducking covering your head will protect you from radication, flying obejects, 200mph winds, and fire!

if you were outside when the bomb goes off, you would disinigrate on the spot- if there was a wall next to you your ashes would form the image of your final pose in life!!! DOESN'T THAT SOUND FUN?!?

  • @mewichigo64 thats for all the cool kids, all the nerds would get superpowers

  • That poor monkey!!!Stupid monkey.

  • everybody is saying they saw this in history...i saw this in music :P

  • i've heard of duck and cover but never in this way...

  • When I was in grade school, we DID this nonsense. Yeah, duck and cover-- maybe the radiation which is rapidly spreading won't find you. Of course, the building will probably collapse on you.

  • OMG FRENCH BATTLE TACTICS!

  • 7:50 good thing he brought his lead lined news paper

  • 27 people didn't duck and cover and died...

  • Well jesus crist, Ducking and cover doesn't make any fucking difference when it comes to a nuclear attack, On a range of 70km of ground zero, organic material will be turned into plasma on about 1200ºC, and a shockwave that could destroy entire buildings will follow afterwards.

  • @Koffe382 Well no shit, it's a propoganda film. They were trying the whole "hey look our people are stupid, let's make them believe they can be safe so there's a false sense of security" thing.

  • is this a real film thing they showed in the war??

  • 3:08 "Cover the back of your neck, WITH YOUR FACE!"

  • Psh. Why didn't the Americans show this to the Japanese before they bombed them? Perhaps they wouldn't have had so many casualties then :/

    Egoistic americans!

  • @Hubertification idiot this was a long time ago before people were less gulible and people know more now.

  • @babecat2000 How you could not see the irony in my post - is a mystery to me.

  • "it wont cut you" darn it...l0lz jk :D my teacher showed us this after reading Z for Zachariah

  • should have been a duck.......WHY A TURTLE?

  • @theninjaswerehere Screw that, I'm joining the super mutant army with the Master.

  • so...how does a thin cover or newspaper protect you from a burn that's hot enough to burn paper?

Man...people in the 50s were GULLIBLE as HELL! XD

  • I watched this TWICE. No ducks.

  • My teacher showed the whole class this during the eighth grade.

  • Our teacher showed us this in history. When he turned the lights on, i screamed "FLASH!!! DUCK AND COVER!!!" and dived and slid across the floor under the teachers desk

  • @fatasian420 were you commended?

  • @kblargh Actually, everyone dived out of their seats when i screamed that. He was laughing too hard to do anything

  • @fatasian420 Our teacher showed us this too.

  • This is historically hilarious!

  • Funny thing is, this likely wouldn't have done shit.

  • @racoonknux49 REALLY?

  • Watch out li'l paranoid american turtle, Stalin's bombs are coming to burn you !

  • well if there was an atomic bomb and you were out side when it went off i would say your prety much toast even if u put your hands over your head, if u didnt blowup with the bomb what about the 1000 mph radioactive wind ?

i ges that would be a good day to fly a kite.

  • 0:34 was sampled in jedi mind tricks uncommon valor

  • OP IS A FAGGOT

  • JUSTIN BIEBER, DUCK & COVER!

  • 6:12 Hell... I still would've been standing there screaming: "OH SHIT!!!!"

  • If you're close enough to see the flash and you're outside, you're fucking screwed either way.

  • lol listen to the remix song of this video in the video called "fallout 3 atomic montage" its actually a really good and catchy song, sick remix.

  • But Bert, what about the 300 degrees air and the 500 mph winds and the *puts on sunglasses* Fallout

  • "We all know the atomic bomb is very dangerous"

    NO FUCKING SHIT

  • we were so lucky to have civil defense and conelrad we would've gotten raped microscopicly

  • @theninjaswerehere haha lol , talking 'bout fallout ? xDDDD

  • They say you may get a bad sunburn from a nuclear explosion. But don't you think it would a bit more productive if instead the government advised grade school children what to do if the heat vaporized you skin, bone, and flesh, leaving only a outine of where you were... Now thats a sunburn. "And to extinguish the fire consuming your body, remember our Stop, Drop, and Roll film!"

  • They made theese videos back then, because of Russia being a threat to the American society-now, in 2011, we are almost an ally with them!

  • i love evrybodys expression when they here the warning. they walk in like-"Uh, oh. Looks like theres a nuke dropping. Oh well! I'D BE RUNNING MY ASS OFF!!!!! NOT WALKING

  • why does all like 1950's video narrators have the same voice?

  • In the event of an atomic bomb there's nothing like a good old sturdy desk to save the day

  • @xBABYxKICKERx Or better yet, a nice picnic blanket.

  • 6:00 Bwahhahahaha

  • 1:48 .... is that Hitler as a fireman?

  • So you duck and cover you say? and than die in the blastwave. I'd say : take a broom and go to the cemetery. When they find you they can easy broom your ashes in the mass grave.

  • @akkudakkupl dark but true.

  • @BuecherFuerAlle yea I know... if you are too close to the epicenter of the explosion and you are not in a blast shelter you are as good as dead, only a shade on the closest wall will be a remembrance of you.

  • "Just as we are ready for many other dangers that are around us all the time"- 5 second shot of a black kid XD

  • OMG The RhubarbisASpy I was about to say the same thing! The fireman at 1:48 is Hitler LOL

  • 01:47 The last guy sliding down the pole looks exactly like Adolf Hitler...?

  • Duck and Cover doesn't do jack if your near ground zero.

  • who knew the way to protect yourself from an ass-kicking could also save your life from a threat never to come

  • @zelpyzelp Never to come? The atomic bomb is still as much of a threat, if not more of a threat today as it was back then.

  • @Galorious330 but...we are no longer enemys of the atomic bomb countries

  • @zelpyzelp Pakistan?

  • @zelpyzelp We are not enemies with Korea, but their leader is very unstable. He could fire off his shit all over the place whenever he wants.

  • @Galorious330 i've never been that good with politics

  • well i'm not a turtle, so how can I prevent myself being killed?

oh that, how useful, so useful that I would grow an extra arm and foot when the bomb has landad, what a treat.

  • @toby070 Obviously, there would be time after the explosion to escape fallout radiation.

  • Had to watching this today in Mrs.Fishers 8th grade class... Ive never seen the awsomest dives to safety..ever

  • South park spoke the truth...

  • AHahha the monkey kills himself, metaphore for suicide bombing monkeys? DDDDD:::::

  • i had to watch this in social studies AND BOY DID MY TEACHER MAEK FUN OF THIS

  • we just had a bomb warning where i live it a warhead almost dropped

  • ,the monkeys are the nazis

  • And... what can be done to avoid this? STOP WAR.

    gosh.

  • we wtached this in histroy and i just laughed. this will not help you if there is a nuclear bomb

  • remember kids, the soviet union and the communists are going to blow us up, so remember to duck and cover.

  • lol we had to watch this in school lol i think its funny becuz the way they just drop - slap- lol but that dude didnt turn off the tractor and plus how is a earthquak drill suposed to help it wuz a mind thing this will not save you lol

  • @bubbles91033 Yeah we watch it in our class too XD

also the guys head is RIGHT next to the wheels.

  • can someone clarify should I cover then duck or...I'm not sure

  • @Xxskaterman We don't want your trolling kind here so pack your bags and leave fagget.

  • @wimpyprune wow you internet cello playing fag why dont u step off cuz ill kick ur ass

  • funniest video everr

  • I'll keep this in mind next time I'm a turtle and faced with a monkey dangling a stick of dynamite from a fishing rod.

...that sounds even more insane that my usual speaks.

  • people in japan are still duck and cover in the corners.

  • @soyertje ...too soon

  • Wanna survie an A bomb? Well you can't But you can make the last few seconds of you life more coftormble with the goverment aproved method of hideing and cowering

  • so basicly we r all screwed

  • yeah because hiding under a thin wooden desk will save you from a nuclear explosion then the fireball and then the radiation

  • I think getting cut from the glass would be the least of your problem if the atomic bombs fall.lol

  • whered the monkey go at the start??

  • @alexthomsonuk Monkey heaven lol

  • *starts singing the atomic montage song from the fallout video*

  • Oh boy, I feel nostalgia. The Iron Giant had a scene similar to this.

  • @ULTIMADONUT yes, i remember that. lol. Great movie btw.

  • you may as well just stick your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye!! XD

  • might aswell im fucked anyways right^^

  • 0:17 stupid monkey.

  • this video proves that the US goverment is retarded

  • God I lost brain cells watching this.

  • that burning you feel? that's your skin falling off

  • i would be so happy if this was in fallout when you go to paradise lane

  • Paul- "Oh its such a beautiful spring day! You're my favorite sibling, Patty! I love you!" *Flash* "Screw you! Every man for himself!"

So who is driving the bus??? And how did the farmer not get run over???

  • 4:40 PEDO ALERT!

  • Why duck and cover, if its a DAMN ATOMIC BOMB !

  • @Idkalice Because when you duck and cover while within 10 miles of the epicentre, you will not be incinerated by the nuclear fireball.

Because when you duck and cover within 40 miles of the epicentre, you will not receive a potentially lethal dose of radiation poisoning.

/SARCASM at the government's failure to properly warn the people on how to react to a nuclear explosion.

  • @InTecknicolour The only reason they made this is to keep people from mass panic, not to save anyone from the nukes.

  • i want to know how they are so calm durring the warning, i would be "holy shit there is a bomb run for your freaking lives"

  • were there any monkeys holding sticks with tnt in wars if not they should they would be very usefull

  • *camera flash*

AHHHHHHHH HOLY SHIT DUCK AND COVER DUCK AND COVER

  • so i'm doing a paper on the cold war...but i'm kind of confused how ducking and covering will help...i mean it's radiation...high levels of radiation...it would just burn you to a point there's nothing left...ducking and covering doesn't help does it?

  • @punroxy2012 People weren't very... you know... smart in the 50's.

  • @DeathStarCommander it might as well be now, but back then? not so much.

  • 1:48 the "fireman" that slid down resembled hitler? anyone else notice?

  • @Midflame222

    LOL you're right!

  • @loner1878 allright wanted to make sure someone else noticed so i knew i wasn't crazy lol

  • i'm confused, it's cover THEN duck right?? ugh oh man why is this so hard!?

  • Thumbs up if Khuskan made you come here.

  • 25 people who obviously didn't Duck and Cover

  • ducking and covering are all well and good, but i wanna ask ol' miss teacher how to prevent being vaporized or catching radiation poisoning.

if Burt can handle is, what will we do?!

  • 2:15 Integrated classroom? On film? In 1951?

  • The idea of ducking and covering to save yourself from a nuclear explosion has to be in the top 10 most idiotic ideas I've ever heard.

  • @vgman94 well would you like to tell a class of 5 year olds that if a nuke falls that they're fuck and should scream like hell

  • @hitman12176 ... Well, my mother always told me she felt the truth was better most of the time. It depends on the person. I remember when I was 4, I once told my mom that I lived long enough..... Don't remember why I said it, but I did...

  • RULE 34 on BERT

  • Wait, what do I do before I cover?

  • In case of threat from atomic bomb, remember the 5 d's of dodgeball. Dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge.

  • Such a brilliant example of stupid propaganda produced by inefficient bureaucracy!!!

It is also very ironic coming from the same (and the only one!) "defense" department that actually used 2 atomic bombs killing hundreds of thousands of civilians in Japan.

  • 25 people forgot to duck and cover

  • so appropriate that the first word you hear in this is dumb. DUMB DUMB TEEDLE DUM DUM

  • like ducking could save u, if a bomb like that went straight into ur house u would be dead even if u were ducking can covering

  • i think if you look at a nuke your eyes melt or something so how can you tell if its coming
