im sorry but alienware is terrible. You can build a pc for half the price of the best alienware area 51 alx, with hydro cooling for every god damn component. Alienware charges almost 2gs for triple channel ddr3 12gb 1600mhz ram, when i can go buy it for about 300 bucks at PC cyber, and even pc cyber has terrible prices. If you wanna waste your money paying for big names go right ahead, but u can build better yourself for waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper.
did you seriously post that an iMac has two processors... not even intel has figured out how to make double length threads to make two singular processors work together in anything other than a server which runs the processors separately for different pieces of information... so no the either apple lies to customers or you havent read close enough

You forgot processing speed. And you have to factor in each product is set up to run different stuff. So mac may be good at artistic stuff as for the alienware is strait up high power gaming and you can make it custom to whatever you want.
@TableThe Personally after owning both, the speed decrease in games (which is VERY little especially with steam for the mac now) mac makes up in pretty much everything else. Don't get me wrong, I still use my PC (and love it) for games because it runs games a little faster and to save the hard drive space on my mac.
Also you're comparing a gaming PC to a render/encoding monster you have to understand the faster clocked core i7 in the Alienware is better for gaming. The extra cores in the dual Xeon setup wouldn't help games because most games barley push 4 physical cores and 4GB of RAM let alone 6GB of RAM. But the extra cores and extra RAM in the Mac Pro could help with production software, CAD or high end video work. So they're different but both geared towards different jobs.
You said they have the same video card but all you put is "Radeon HD video card" while the Alienware has an HD 5870 and the Mac pro with the top option has an HD 4870 and dude those aren't the same at all. The 4870 has 800 Stream Processing cores and the 5870 has 1,600! That card costs twice the price! Anyway I'm not sticking up for the Alienware as anyone smart enough knows they're just overpriced Dells and I like Mac Pro's too. Just you're not comparing the same things there.
@MN12BIRD you also have to consider the memory for the video card: alienware area 51 alx is 4096 (MB), and i honestly couldn't care less about the mac, but its 1gb (1gb < 4096mb (4096mb = 4gb))
