  • This earthquake was only 3 miles deep. Thats why it caused so much damage

  • Unbelievable; is Christchurch one of NZ's oldest cities?

RIP all who died, and greetings from Southern California.

  • <3 our anniverserys 2morrow 2 mark the tragic death of our city my hometown copy and paste if u sow respect for the death of thoose people RIP

  • Reminds me of cloverfield.

  • You should have seen my house after that quake

  • Just moved to Brisbane from Christchurch. Brisbane isn't bad for a much larger city but there is so much to love about Christchurch. Everything in Brisbane takes 2X longer to do(generous guess), huge commute times, toll roads, insane inner city parking charges, most people run aircon constantly, its no wonder wages are higher they have to be.

Christchurch is still a wonderful city, the core things that I love are still there, after a break away ill be back.

  • cant believe its almost been a year. i stil remember everything from that day, fortunately i was nowhere near town but what a completely overwhelming feeling of fear and all sorts of undescribable things. great video.

  • @fairhillnorrie havn't really started with this rebuilding yet, they still demolishing and keep getting set back with all these aftershocks...anything over like a 5.0- 5.5 they need to re- check everything.

  • What camera did you use? Awesome quality.

  • u dumb ass the video skipped because he was traveling

  • wow fences one minute after... ;-)

  • I moves from new Zealand to Australia I wanna go back to my real home to see if my sister is ok she was in this earthquake I cried Nd I'm only 14

  • where are you? i am in woolston and to my blank amazement had no damage from that or any of the others.

what could have happened chills me to the very bone

  • I come from the UK & I moved to Chch in 2010. This earthquake was terrible, I really hope all the earthquakes stop soon.

  • 0:41 guy out for a casual jog?

  • 0:47on that guys t-shirt, like if it made u laugh :D

  • And i will keep praying that they will have no more earthquakes and that 2012 will be better for all of them

  • :'( the earthquake happened on my bday im so sad! I hope that christchurch is now okay

  • i was at school, FUCKING SCARIEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE.

  • I was at school when it happened.

It was so scary because my mom had just been walking down the street (columbo st) at 2:03 about 8 minutes before it hit luckily the bus was there early. Otherwise...

I am so thankful that no one I knew was killed. But all my love goes out to the families who lost their loved ones. Kia Kaha <3

  • What a kwl guy is tv is still on

  • i was in the earthquake then in the centre of it all i can still remember

  • All you have to do is change the name of the city from Chrischurch to Christmosque and maybe god will stop the earthquakes

  • damn your house is a mess get yourself a woman to clean up after you ya messy bastard :)

  • We <3 you chch just heard about the one yesterday <3 kia kaha

  • They are still having large earthquakes and it is this close to Christmas. I hope everyone in the world is saying a prayer for the people of New Zealand. I know I am.

  • @Bazether9864 we are slowly recovering. There is still so much damage, but the city centre has just opened, and many building have been reopened, schools and universities. Everywhere you go in chch, there are signs of damage, but everyone has pulled together and helped each other. The strongest sense of community I have ever felt.

  • Wow that's crazy.

  • You captured this day really well mate.

  • Thats what my house looked like too!

  • Is that JK on the tv?

  • @TheBeccasaurus Yes - was watching Jeremy Kyle at the time and was waiting on the all important lie detector results! :)

  • @LoganGorilla Haven't laughed so hard all week. haha.

  • i was in chch in feb 2006 and its sad to see so many areas in the CBD i visited and/or passed by are now in ruins

  • OMG that was my school bus

  • I read an article the other day where it mentioned over 10,000 people have moved out of Christchurch because they don't want to have to go through another experience like this Earthquake. Can't really blame them, can ya ?

  • Lady just chilling having a smoke. Good bitch.

  • @omgitsjaaydee probably stress and counting herself lucky she is still alive.

  • Those people at the start lighting up a smoke. Losers. Complete and utter losers. If an earthquake won't kill them lung cancer will.

  • @sunonthewindow Fuck off you judgmental cunt, so what if they want to smoke? Horray for sheltered lives keeping people from doing what they want.

  • This breaks my fucking heart. I was born in Wellington, but moved to CHCH when I was a baby and lived there until I was 11 then moved to Hamilton where I have been for the rest of my life (I am 20). I still consider CHCH my hometown as all my first memories were there, and the bulk of my family lives there. The earthquake almost killed my grandmother who is 76 as it caused her to have a heart attack. I pray another one does not happen. RIP to all who died on this sad day in NZ's history

  • Earthquake in Japan = Massive media coverage, funding to this day.

Earthquake in NZ = 1 week's media coverage, foreign rescue services making use of Christchurch brothels and NO ongoing funding.

Mining Fiasco in Chile = All survived. International help on the scene immediately.

Mining Fiasco in NZ = Limp offers of help, little international exposure, all miners died.

  • @Stealthkeys77

    Your a c**t

  • @Stealthkeys77 If you're trying to say the reason people died in Chch and Pike River MIne was that we didn't get enough help, you would be wrong. Also, comparing a tsunami with an earthquake is questionable. Comparing a collapsed gold mine with an exploded coal mine is ridiculous.

  • whats in the water that gives australian guys huge dicks

  • @altaqqadum96 -- what's in the water that gives american guys tiny brains? o.O

  • now is the time to start robbing the banks people, what you waiting for!!!!

  • hay guys did u feel that aftershock noop did u feel that aftershock noop arghhhhhhhh rrggggggggggggg ragharggggggggds..... did u fell yes i felt the fuckin aftershock ok god

  • Hey man, good video. Don't know why people bother commenting like some below? Stupid. Are you still in you apartment? I've just got time off work in Palmy so I;m coming down in a couple of days to see my family. Good luck bro.

  • @HumanRightsVideosT yeah well obviously your just another one of those DICKHEADS that didnt get the picture first time so you sit there complaining afterwards just like most of the eastern suburbs doing at the moment COMPLAiNiNG AND MOANiNG

  • I'm not convinced temporary housing is necessary in East Christchurch as there is currently

    no shortage of accommodation

    no shortage of accommodation

and its likely that more people will leave chch. I know of 2 landlords having trouble letting houses.

Repairable houses need to be fixed ASAP. They are going have to get repaired anyway.

If you put up a house in the East side it or its services might get damaged anyway. Chch needs to shift towards solid ground rather than repeating past mistakes.

  • @ BeyondCWC

Much of chch was built on soft ground. Not rocket science

  • hey people i live in chch bryndwr now lately i been smelling a strong smell of rotten eggs now thats SULPHAR coming from the fisher that opened up in hoon hay also were expecting another 7.1 sometime either off the banks peninsula fault or the darfield fault or even the hamner springs fault so thats most likely why EQC is hesitant to start the rebuild cause were still in a LIVE EVENT so just be ready for the next 7.1 no one knows when its gonna hit but it will

  • @ youngfreeze121

    next pile of garbage please

  • @ youngfreeze121

People are leaving chch because of stupid comments being made. And sadly some NZ media publicise them

  • I was on the bus when this happened, without a doubt the most scary thing in my life

  • @BeyondCWC The Bible is like the Law.

You can always find a verse that contradicts another.

  • Well that is what you guys get when you refuse to let the American Rockefeller Illuminati relocate there. They use their HAARP scalar weaponry to show their disdain for your refusal. Still you are better off without them.

  • 00:42 <--- ''just because there was an earthquake, doesn't mean I can't go for my morning jog, right?'' LOL

  • what a mess....shit I would seriously move from that city far far away!....today another quake hit, like folks it aint gonna end...the earth has woken up around there.

  • @birdie2219 an other quake ? when?

  • A sad time! When will it all end???

  • yet another 2 quakes today :( maybe christchurch needs to relocate

  • @ shivasmetimbres

Many have left and more are going

  • I was there, stayed in iStay on Cashel street!!! Lost everything.

  • @ AnastasiyaHl

Businessman in the red zone are likely to be losing their livelihoods

  • i feel soo bad for these people, but it made me cry but not so much because of the loss of life but because of the unity between the general public helping one another- it takes a major incident like this for unity now days- r.i.p to everyone that passed, my thoughts are with those left trying to rebuild x

  • glad u are safe brother

  • but a single plane can cause the largest of towers to pulverize into dust. wow. gotta love physics

  • @TheAngryarchangel A few planes packed with C4 and Thermite.

  • notice how people arent looting stealing fighting killing or raping each other. they are actually helping each other. haitians take note.

  • @TheAngryarchangel Your comparing apples and oranges mate to be honest.

When you come from a third-world country, the rules are different in these circumstances.

  • two of my friends died and i was close to it, most scariest day of my life,

  • My friend lived there. The was a sad day. :(

  • I live in Christchurch. My house is screwed, im in North New Brighton or as the media were calling it part of the "east side" which got hit the worst after the cbd. Never again do i want to expericence this again. No power or water for 20 days still no sewage 3 months on.

  • 0:51

    ahhaaa

  • Why are you's even comment fighting on this video? Really? Just both of you's shut the fuck up and get the fuck out. This was the most scariest day of my life, people died infront of my eye's. But the most beautiful thing about this day was all the help and care coming from complete strangers, Christchurch people are beautiful.

  • why there are so many places experienced earthquake during 2011, 2012 really coming?

  • I was watching Jeremy Kyle too! He potentially saved my life coz if I hadn't started watching him I was considering going into town for lunch, probably $2 on cashel st. People died on cashel st.. Thanks Jezza

  • @MattyBrabs Are you talking about $2.00 rice?

I feel for those that have lost their buildings, but even

more for the fallen and their families.

  • @Outlawzand1 yeah $2 rice* my bad

  • @MattyBrabs Was the greatest thing you could buy for a small $2 coin.

Fried rice with that special sauce mmm mm.

Btw Jeremy Kyle is funny as, I always watch it

    when I can.

  • scariest day of my life

  • If you're seeing this then you probably know more about it than I do.

  • lol. lucky i was at home when it happened.

  • I am totally amazed and your clip. It still brings tears to my eyes watching the city in such dismay.

I can never imagine the panic you would have all been in. Thanks for sharing

  • I think there's a lot of buildings in the colder climes in Australasia where they don't get cyclones, that just don't have enough steel through the infrastructure

  • I lived in Christchurch from 1955 until 1984. Lovely city. My heart goes out to these people.

  • I'm glad Christchurch is getting better....... Christchurch still looks quite bad...... but it's better now than what it is on this video......... Christchurch still dosent have clean water yet..... i feel for other people in christchurch other than myself

    I <3 Chch

  • Being in the oldest school in christchurch was really gay when it struck

  • i love you christchurch, you will always be my home

  • Is that Jeremy Kyle on the TV at the start...?

  • @goodgollygirl01 hahaha yup!

  • i live in chch

    the quake was horrifying

  • how the fuck can 15 poepl dislike this?

  • everyone looks so calm

  • hectic as bro

  • I'm a fourteen year old girl. I was in the bus exchange at the time of the earthquake. The bus i was supposed to be on was crushed. I am so lucky to be alive. Everyone who died will always be remember. RIP

  • Because when this was taken nobody knew of any deaths, going on the basis of the first earthquake which was stronger but no deaths.

  • whats up with that guy giving peace sign at 0:50? why the fuck is he so chill when hundreds of people died

  • thanks for adding this video, just showed the true massive damage the quake dealt. I live in auckland and saw it all over the news, but it didn't really compliment the damage as much as home made footage does.

  • i live in chch, and the sad thing is EVERYTHING still looks the same. even 3 months after.

  • @30seconds2jaredleto I'd say, but it's a process take ages, my school will proberly wont open till next year.

  • @30seconds2jaredleto your comment is 5 months old.. are there things still the same?

  • @Danish9248 most of the buildings are gone now but the CBD is still cordoned off as they still need to bring down the Hotel Grand Chancellor. It's going to take a while.

  • @Kimbercommonname Thanks for telling me... I am going to settle in New Zealand. Auckland in February or March cause there is too much expensiveness and corruption in our country Pakistan also there are many black sheeps(Useless people of a respectable in group) in our political system..

  • @Danish9248 I wish you luck then. =) Auckland is a great city.

  • @Kimbercommonname auckland sucks, wellington kicks ass

  • Its like a horror film your just waiting for the big fucking monser roar cause some beast is ravaging the city. but no its real life and very sad.

  • Its weired seeing this footage, just reminds you how big it really was and how mother nature certainly can take it all away, I never feared so much for others life and my own day. It just felt so extreme

  • love to ya all my fellow cantabs xx

  • videos like this one give a realistic perspective, none of the media hype .. come up to auckland !.. yeah its full of jafas haha but.. we re jafas that care

  • /watch?v=LyaaEctS7Ak watch this people

  • hey man, thanx for uploading this vid...

i'm from austria but that day i was in chch. when the quake struck i had just walked out of the cathedral. obviously, i remember that day quite regularly. how are you guys now? is chch starting to recover? are there still many aftershocks?

    all the best from vienna

  • @tylervideochannel Our roads are looking so much better, but even after 2 months , builders are ''just'' pulling down things.

  • Thanks for uploading this, it's good to find out the full extent of the damage. My school's in Cashel Mall and we had to walk through to Moorhouse Ave straight after, but as you can imagine I didn't notice much cause I was bawling my eyes out. Thankfully everyone I know is safe, and I'm so lucky. Apparently 90% of town is gone now. Dammit.

  • At 1.37 there was a bus with not many people why did they not stop full in with people and get them to sum where safe

  • I always thought thousands would be killed when Chch got hit by the big one. The damage was just what I always expected but I hadn't figured on most people being really smart and doing the best thing for themselves instantly when it happened.

  • Can someone cofirm for me if each new day on the planet starts in New Zealand? When the sun "rises" in the East, is it New Zealand that the sun hits first?

  • @derals869 Yup it is.

  • FAR OUT that would have been freaky. I was in Nelson (5 hours away) and Nelson felt it (I didnt) and I remember my homeroom teacher coming in and you should have seen his face!

  • This has gone off the radar since Japan had their earthquake.

  • Wow this is the most real footage I have seen and I felt quite emotional watching it, I know sometimes there are no words to change what has happened but I hope these words of compassion from us up here in the North Island may show that we are still thinking of you all.

  • Good wishes from your Australian neighbours. Sorry for what happened.

  • Excellent footage. Sad to see so many beautiful churches damaged. So sorry for the people who lost friends and family.

  • its official christchurch the city of quake just like auckland the city of sails

  • something is happening on the pacific plate! everyone research and find out for yourselfs, im 19 and managed to find out a wealth of information about geo.. RESEARCH people!

  • Love the video work nice keep them coming! When you have time come visit my channel!

  • Great footage there - was looking to see if you got me going down Manchester but no luck.

  • ALL I HEAR IS PEOPLE TEARING EACH OTHER UP IN A CHRISIS SITUATION !!

WE ALL WIPE ARE ASS THE SAME WAY DON'T WE ?? PRETTY MUCH... ALL OF YOU GROW THE FUCK UP AND RESPECT THE FACT THAT SOMETHING TERRIBLE HAS HAPPENED .!.!. PLEASE......IM NOT PERFECT BUT WHAT HAD HAPPENED IN JPN AND CHCH ARE HELLISH !!!!! I DON'T KNOW ANY OF THESE PEOPLE BUT IM SURE TJEY ARE LIKE YOU AND ME AND I FEEL A GREAT DEAL FOR THERE TRAGEDY

THIS IS WHY WE ARE AT THE END OF TIMES ..... HATRED DOESNT HELP A BIT..

    NOW FUCK

  • I visited this city almost 3 years, it's shocking to see so many places I visited in this condition. What is the street and the red building at 2:59?

  • lol at 0:35 n the right you can see two girls from cashmere high school

  • @JerrySpringerRooms what a fuckin crybaby! waaa my education was poo waaaa, ppl dont like me waaa, if you were too busy oogling boys in your class to listen thats your own fault. i am happy here and even in the midst of this quake business i STILL wont leave and why??? because i love my country and the ppl in it, our cops dont even need to carry guns.. thats how safe our country is. you live in the most crime ridden country in the world and your knocking your home turf? you sir, are retarded...

  • What a terrible thing to happen to good hard working people. God bless you all. Please try to carry on.

  • such a big destruction for such a weak earthquake... we pray for you and hope you(Christchurch) learnt a lot from it about the way you build your buildings...

Gosh I hope there won't be an earthquake here in Israel, we're not gonna survive it...

  • @EP1997 The destruction was due to the earthquake's shallowness and the city's closeness to the epicenter. The ground on which the city is built turned to liquid. The intensity of the shaking was 2.2 times the acceleration of gravity - one of the highest ever recorded. The Haiti earthquake was 0.5 in comparision. No building anywhere (including Japan) is designed to withstand that sort of shaking, so it's a miracle anything is still standing.

  • @maddiek1980 Your the only person I've seen, who actually knows what their talking about.

  • ive got the same beer hunter t-shirt nice

  • Busted watching 'Jeremy Kyle'.

  • RIP to all the victims

  • @JerrySpringerRooms mate... you and your statistic bullshit are a joke... we may be a simple little country but we have heart and soul and the same trials and tribulations as anyone else in the world.. what has NZ ever done to you? you disgust me with your holier-than-thou attitude fucking hero trying to be smart but your not smart enough to apply yourself to something constructive, you would rather tear down the victims of a natural disaster, fucking pussy!

  • @JerrySpringerRooms so where do you live smart guy? i could pick holes in any other countries shortfalls all day too but it wouldnt make me any smarter, just like your aggressive insulting rant doesnt make you any cooler... the people that live here are real ppl with real lives and real families, you must be a very lonely person to have that kind of spiteful hatred for a country you have probably never been to... so in-spite of your hateful words, i still feel sorry for you.

  • @JerrySpringerRooms wow, your life is so drury and meaningless that you draw amusement from making comments like that? i feel sorry for you...

  • Comment removed

  • why does everyone get so worked up about these videos! they are there for other people to see what the fuck just happend outside our door.....seeing the vids on here is nothing like how it was actually being there. I can't beleive it, the city is destroyed! no more towning it for a while.....

I can beleive how many people dodged death that day

  • WOAH!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i can tell you that the first thing on my mind after the quake was my family and friends walking outside of the building i was in and seeing the devastation outside was horrific I was in the building at 4:18 the early childhood college, straight after it happened all you could see outside was smoke and dust everywhere, it was surreal.

  • Wow... what do you do after earthquakes like this (and Japan)... That's probably what's on the minds of those people walking blindly through the streets. Actually, I can't even imagine what's on their minds!

  • Earthquakes is very scary >.<

  • @piesword U think!!
