  • By far the most beautiful series i`ve ever saw.

I was a young kid, and every fridaynight i hàd to watch this series.

Pasquinel and McKeag were my heroes in that time.

    Amazing television.

  • This was prime time, BBC 1 Spring of '79. You had to watch it.

  • so the show does exist!, i have vague memories of this as a child. all i remember was the title and that the opening credits seemed to go on forever!. now ive found it i can rest at last..... by the way great show, dont know what it would cost to make it now?

  • I actually got a beta tape with the #9 part of the mini-series when it first aired (it even had the original commercials ... it was taped by actor George Pentecost who had a small role in it) ... Brian Keith was awesome

  • Bought the dvd two years ago. got goosebumps as soon as this music started, waited so long to see this great miniseries again, really enjoy sharing this dvd with friends and family.

  • This intro is just epic!

  • I remember the epic series well it was an absolute classic and did not glorify the arch typical cowboy as the hero but presented him as the villain and in fact as I recall the programme was highly reccomended by the national geographic magazine. Robert Conrad and Stephen MacHattie were my favourite characters.

  • @MrSuperneil05 Not true. The cowboys in Centennial aren't villains; R.J. Poteat and Jim Lloyd are both heroes, and the other cowboys are mostly good folks. The villainous Oliver Seccombe isn't a cowboy, he's just a ranch owner who's never punched cattle in his life. The series also accurately shows that many of the cowboys were black or Mexican (about 2/7 of them historically).

  • upload the whole thing please

  • Did you know that this series costs was 25 million dollars.

One of the worlds most expensive miniseries ever made.

And it still is a masterpiece, while seeing it on dvd.

    A masterpiece.

  • @lebbing64 Imagine the networks producing a mini series like this today or any mini series. With dumbed down TV and attention spans... hmmm

  • :) Thank you, my Grandfather was an Art Dir. on this film. It's nice to see the attention it continues to receive.

  • Rest in peace, Lynn Redgrave (Charlotte Seccombe/Charlotte Lloyd)! She passed away on May 2, 2010 at age 67 from breast cancer.

  • I love the soundtrack to this movie. Does anyone know if there is an actual "Soundtrack" for this movie?

  • This series has "Roots" beat a mile!!

  • I borrowed all 12 episodes from the library and they were excellent. If you are an history buff, you will certainly enjoy it. This clip is very good. The soundtrack is great.

  • @UFOSCOTT - I couldn't resist and purchased the complete series for $34 at Sams Club. Got and get it!!

  • Man I adore this show! I had the biggest crush on the guy that played Levi Zendt. This show is so great! It's the most addicting thing I've ever watched. :)

  • This miniseries was outstanding! Some of the best TV moments of my life, and strangely underrated - in the UK it's not out on DVD or VHS!! I had a crush on Mike Pasquinel!! haha!

  • @BetsyDevlin I had a crush on Jake Pasquinel and still do! LOL

  • My wife and I did a "Centennial" marathon this past labor day weekend. She thought she was not going to like it, but after a bit, she was glued to the screen. Catch Stephen McHattie with Tom Selleck in the "Jesse Stone" movies.

  • I loved this series, and I had a crush on Stephen McHattie playing Jake Pasquinel.

  • i finished re-watching all 12 episodes in the last 2 weeks... I watched it back in the 70's when I was a kid.... It is an awesome series despite some flaws. The last episode, however, is total poo.... but the rest of the series is very good..... and the theme song is one of my all time faves.....

  • My fondest memories of childhood are of this epic miniseries and of course North and South. I still haven't bought this on DVD. I need to pick it up.The book was excellent too

  • 10/10

This really brings back memories. Thanks for posting. I really must pickup the dvd box set asap.

  • One of the best mini-series ever.

  • no hablo ingles pero podias pasarme o mandarme los links para bajar toda la serie.

    saludos

  • Great music.

  • Absolutely!

  • anyone know what this song is called???

  • i luv this movie i am only on the seventh episode though but i am 12 years old and it is very interesting to me but i luvv the theme song.

  • I feel sorry for your generation, tv today is pure crap unless its History Channel, Discovery Channel or A&E, I grew up with great programs like this with great music that effected me in some way, that was the 70s and early 80s, now its all generic and tastless.

  • i'm looking for a film i used to watch when i was kid in some german tv channel (prosieben, rtl or other)... i can't remember the name.. it was comedy kinda western series with blond guy and fat dark haired guy fighting everytime. Anyone knows what i'm about??

  • GOOD NEWS...My new DVD version is on its way...YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

  • I have heard that the DVD version omits significant amounts of footage from the VHS version. True?

  • This theme inspired me to play trumpet for a living...I wish this would be re-released(SP) on DVD...I have it on VHS.

  • Trying to find people that were in this Wonderful maxi series epic or worked on it. I was involved for about 9 months back in '78. I am wondering if there is any 30 year reunion of sorts in Orchard, CO or anywhere else. Please let me know any info. All would be greatly apprecitated.

  • YAHOOO!! Received my copy today!!!

  • DVD to be available July 29 on Amazon - $39

  • A "Who's Who" of 70s TV stars. I remember watching this and being very 'taken by' Stephen McHattie - it was the first thing I'd seen him in. [Last thing, I think, was the "Quantum Leap" finale.]

  • if it comes out on july 8 WHERE DO I BUY IT! I WANT IT SO BAD!!

  • CENTENNIAL COMES OUT ON DVD JULY 08!

  • That would be good news!

  • This and Rich Man Poor Man were the best of the mini-series.

  • This mini series will never be released on DVD due to the fact there are to many actors invloved and the legal side of it has stopped any DVD release.......sad but true! its all to do with royalties

  • Amazon: July 28. $39.00

  • This will take several postings - the cast in alphabetical order as they appear in this intro with their roles as follows:

William Atherton - Jim Lloyd (cattleman, later head of Venneford Ranch)

Raymond Burr - Hermann Bockweiss (St. Louis silversmith)

Barbara Carrera - Clay Basket (McKeag's first wife)

    Richard Chamberlain - Alexander McKeag

    Robert Conrad - Pasquinel

Richard Crenna - Col. Frank Skimmerhorn

Timothy Dalton - Oliver Seccombe (operated Venneford Ranch later in life)

  • Thank you. The rest can be found on the Internet Movie Data Base.

  • I remember my parents trying to get me to watch this mini-series on TV when I was little. I wasn't too interested in it at the time, but the theme song has stuck with me so much that I decided to buy the book a few months ago. I have to say that it is the best book I have ever read, and I can't wait for the DVD version of the mini-series to come out.

  • i remember sitting down and watching this with my mom, it is such a great series. i signed up for it on amazon, so i hope more ppl will do the same.

  • My favorite series of all time.

  • why dont they get smart and make this on DVD!

  • Go to amazon and sign up for it. If enough interest is shown, it will be released.

  • Hans Brumbaugh and Pasquinell my Brother, aww i love this series my hitory teacher made us watch this in 1997 we thought is was going to be dumb at first, but looked forward to watching it every friday

  • I watched it when it first aired - I was in my early teens.

Having read the book first (I live in Michener's home of Bucks County, PA), I looked forward to it every week! It's still my favorite Michener work.

Don't forget key characters such as Levi Zendt ("Potato" Brumbaugh's partner), Alexander McKeag (Pasquinel's partner), Maxwell Mercy, Charlotte Lloyd and Oliver Seccombe - and many others!

  • I remember watching this on NBC when it first aired ,and the mini-series was spread out over several months. A classic!

  • Thank you for post. This is one of what got me so interested in history. Well done.

  • You're welcome!

  • So much stuff out there is hard to find on DVD--both American and British TV. I remember watching this with my Dad when I was a little kid. We'd eat nachos in the family room while it was on and discuss characters and history during the commercial breaks.

  • Watched this mini-series when I was still in primary school. Loved the introduction; gets longer with each episode leading to the grand finale. Never failed to be fascinated ... till now :-) ... that so many famous movie stars played in this mini-series. Even tried to memorize the names of all those shown in the intro, from A-Z! :-) Thanks so much!

  • Do you still know them by heart? ;-)

  • Yes I do. Tried to post them all here but this system only limits my response to 500 characters so I'd better send you a private message. ;-)

  • I pray for this to be released on Dvd. When I first saw it many many years ago. I was literally blown away! For all of this time, I still wait for it on Dvd. This intro brings back memories.

Thank you so much for posting this.

  • You're welcome! I was pretty much blown away, too, and it still is one of my very favorite television series.

  • Absolutely without doubt one of the geatest mini series ever made. A disgrace that it is not available on dvd when so much crap is. A whole generation will never have seen this magnificent television event !!!

  • The best mini-series ever made. Why can't I get it on DVD ??? Thanks for posting.

  • You're welcome! If I read the IMDB message board well, it still isn't on dvd officially. Boxes that can be bought are bootlegs. The only official release yet is on VHS.

  • A truly great mini-series. Why oh why don't they make television like this anymore ???

  • good mini series
