Yes, the space shuttle has three Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) and they are running for the landing process in order to provide hydraulic pressure. But why that they produce this characteristic sound is something which I don't know.
There's a mountain of evidence that the Apollo moon missions were faked. I posted a partial summary of it on a science forum. Google "The Naked Scientists". In the "New Theories" section of the forum there's a thread entitled "Did We Land on the Moon?". The summary is on page 15. It's the 7th post from the top.
People who still think they went to the moon simply haven't seen the hoax evidence yet.
That a perfect landing. It couldn't of gone any smoother. You have to remember they are traveling about 16,000 mph from space to a gradual slow down to 0 mph in a short amount of time. If your joking than I apologize. If your not, now you know.
does the shuttle have power when it's landing? thought i heard engines.

@telemetry9 No, there are other spotter aircraft flying nearby. They monitor the shuttle's descent.

Is the squeaking/scraping noise the brakes on the shuttle?

If it's simply gliding down, what is all that noise coming from that sounds like a jet?

It's as smooth as it can get for a "flying brick" that is the Shuttle.

This is off-topic but it's space-related.
