  • damn I hate this sound :P and the clock is ticking.. and the money goes bye bye ^^

  • nothing special, i do this everyday at my work, I program security panels remotely using modem, too, and man, that sound you hear at the end is 'happy' sound, menats, handshake done, ready to send signal.

  • Reminds me playing Duke Nukem 3D via modem lol

  • Almost 50k views, wow. Maybe I record a new version (this time in HD ^^) showing the whole setup...

  • @bommel88 Will take you quite a while to upload though...

  • @theSuitMusic Well, yes. Alhough I have a broadband connection, HD content takes ages to upload.

  • @bommel88 Yes please, but do it at 56k views.

  • The 90's soccermom's 2 AM porn alarm?

  • @DogWed Don't forget scrambled porn.

  • @DogWed i found my porn pretty easy back in the 90s with my windows 95 computer and AOL i mean they were not videos but the pics made me happy lol

  • GAWD DAMMIT!!! It took me half an hour just download and watch this shitty little video with my modem. ARghghghgh!!! Frustrating!!!

  • it'd be a great alarm clock

  • I dont miss hooking up two vcr's just to tape a movie rental (which prob had an anticopy lock in it). I don't miss tapes getting eaten by tape decks.I however do miss the simplicity of t.v.

  • @DogWed omg lol!

  • @DogWed :D

  • then playing duke nukem3D

  • I never get tired of that sound....

  • dang if youd sell that on ebay youd have to pay to sell it. kINDOF LIKE TAKE THIS AND YOUL GET 5 EURO FROM ME .d

  • I remember the times when I was downloading about 50mb what took me like 3 hours and while I was downloading my dad picked up the phone and the download was canceld and I had to start over again...

Every time that happened I was like FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!

  • @d4n93r

Just means you were a n00b who didn't know about protocols which support resuming interrupted transfers.

  • Can u still use it?

  • @DogWed

Hey man, at least you appreciated what boobs you got. Kids today are so spoiled with the internet just handing them boobs with the snap of a google search.

  • lol...that sound! thought I'd never hear it again... the good old times

  • @DogWed haha ;D

  • OW OH MY EAHRS OH MY GOODNESS. MOTHER OF GOD!!!!

lol jk jk Nice video! Interesting to see old tech.

  • Would this modem work toghether with a Linux distro?

  • @MeAndLinux As this modem is connected via RS232 it will likely work with any Linux distribution. In contrast to most internal PCI modems or external USB modems it doesn't need a special driver.

  • @bommel88 thx!

  • @bommel88 Youre a special driver.

  • luv the sounds memories

  • You gotta love the 90's!

  • @winlover37 yes ;-)

  • @winlover37 well...the early 90's. Broadband was pretty popular by 1999

  • @2fast4uspartan Of course! But the 90's just has that certain feel about it which fits what I said. Broadband was a cool thing when it came out.

  • @2fast4uspartan In America maybe. I didnt get Broadband till 2005. Was just too expensive before that.

  • I remember when this sound used to be music to my ears...

  • ahhh, back in the day

  • omg.. it remembers my childhood

  • that noise it's so creppy

  • Holy CRAP this video brings back memories!! lol!!

  • @ibanez I totally agree, I was 15 in my room at night all alone, I had been dreaming about the USA for years because of stupids tv shows, and now in the far country, in the middle of nowhere, with only 0.04% of french people online, I could actually "interact" live with american people , and share experiences ! that sounds stupid now, but then it was like, having everything at hand. The best part was to be able to buy videos tape and books from the usa, in english .

  • I remember having a 512 baud modem . God the horror!

  • @smikules I would have smoked you with my 1200 baud Hayes Smartmodem back in the day! Only took me two hours to download a 1 MB file!

  • I had that one!! :'(

  • oh my god i haven't heard that shit for yeeears!!

  • It must've taken forever to upload this video with that modem..

  • @TheCAPVlogger Okay, here's the config: this modem is connected to a Windows XP PC configured as a dial-in server. The modem itself is connected to an old telephone system. I use an old laptop with an built-in modem that is also connected to this telephone system to call the dial-in server.

  • sick dubstep

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • Dial up should be free nowadays just to use as a backup. I know ppl that still pay like 15-20 a month for dial-up. I remember finding free dial up accounts back in the Dreamcast days to connect the Dreamcast to the internet, but I'm not sure if they still have any good free ones available.

  • @HerecomestheCalavera dial up is free in France go to free(dot)fr the leader internet provider in france you get free dialup without subscribing to their dsl or optical offer.

  • @jacklabite i wish we had to option of optical here in the US. Most places don't have the cables underground... Internet should become free for all and have the highest connection, but sadly everything is about money.

  • During the days of dial up internet a modem would try to negotiate, or speak with, the ISP servers. That sound is the result of the data transfer. I read a comment on a previous video that said, "If you don't remember this sound, you are too young to be on the internet." Which made me goe lulz. :D

  • Why does it make those noises? lol

  • I still use a modem...

  • Sounds like my old spectrum loading a game, that took hours also.

  • 90s RULE that sound brings bak soooo many memories

  • @BoyneMaiden yes, mid 1997 or so. But still a piece of reliable hardware ;-)

  • @bommel88 THAT MY BIRTHDAY LOL

  • Oh. so it's not the computer making the noise? It's the modem by itself making the noise?

  • @NewDie9 Yes. It is an external modem therefore it has its own speaker. Internal modems often use your sound card if they make any noise at all.

  • @bommel88 why the hell does it have a speaker? Nobody wants to hear that!

  • @zit175 So you know that it's connecting! My internal 56k modem had an onboard speaker, which was interesting.

  • Aliens is the word :D

  • Remember when you had to disconnect from the internet just to be able to use the god damn phone xD

  • Can it be that it was all so simple then?

Or has time re-written every line?

If we had the chance to do it all again

Tell me, would we? could we?

  • Download this vid for 99,9% and then RING RING FUCK DAMN IT

  • GODDAMNIT MOM, IM TRYING TO FINISH DOWNLOAGING THIS PORN! mom: what!?!?

    nothing....

  • did you guys know this video was filmed in 2009?

it just took a year to upload on 56k

  • "You're gonna have to go offline, I got a call to make."

  • So much nostalgia

  • I miss those days that we were connecting to the Matrix...

  • fuckin love it! 56 man, you had the modem setup for Auto answer on 2 rings issue a command something like ATSO=1. At=Attention command SO 1.

or if u are using telnet or some communications software ath +++ means Attention Hook +++ terminates the caller. It was used on my bbs when i was 11 yr old to kick callers offline when they pressed Z in the main menu to logoff!

  • This sound is real???

  • @Noblestudioz yes ;)

  • Comment removed

  • @Noblestudioz Wow you're fucking stupid.

  • @Noblestudioz

just unhook your cable MODEM from the computer, plug in your phone line if you have one then you'll find out if you connect to something like AOL, Compuserve, NetZero.

I as introduced to this when I was in 2nd grade. they called what a modem does with another computer or network "talking" to each other for a connection.

    Good old days.

  • @Belailyo I'm currently having some serious issues with my DSL connection. I never had any issues with those old 56k modems, they just work. Old and slow (well, back then it was okay) but very reliable. DSL is just a piece of failing crap. Yes, maybe it's 1000 times faster but I had so many problems with it I really would like to use my crowbar to just bash the shit out of it.

  • @bommel88 I don't know, my 56k modem always disconnected. =x

  • @bommel88 I work in telecom company and what problems you are talking about, the newest adsl2+ is pretty much stable at least in my workplace controled zone, the only thing that is aded in ADSL lines is local DSLAM station, if it is crappy then fuck your ISP (in example your ISP is using crappy chinese station instead Ericcson or Alcatel DSLAM stations). Even more DSL can work in reduced speed in grounded (ruined) lines, which are fatal to phone/dial-up operation.

  • @bommel88 I love my DSL but my new modem is so fucking hard to get to where it dosen't fail but then its fine. All our PC's have internal modems exept the OLD Mac we had that had a 2"x4"x6" box or some crap like that.

  • @bommel88 how about you switch to broadband?

  • @bommel88

    Cool story bro.

  • @bommel88

DSL is glorified Dial Up. I remember my Dial Up crapping out on me quite often actually.

  • @Belailyo,

No you missed key features when growing up, THIS was the time to grow up in.

Starting with casette deck and advancing to Cd and then DVD.

The times you recorded song from the radio on a casette because you wanted to listen to it again.

There was no or when you had it slow internet, buying CD's and videos, recording videoclips on videotape or order clips on TV stations by phone, that was the time.

Now you just log in on youtube and it's easy like that.

  • @Belailyo What is likeable about the sound is what many of us associate with it. For many people the internet wasn't just "always there", but it was something completely new that changed their perspective forever. The Modem Sound became a Symbol for being connected to the world, while sitting in your chair! Maybe you have a similar feeling about the "fasten seat belt"-Sound in Airplanes - our feeling of the excitement of Air Travel can be symbolized in that little sound.

  • @Belailyo DSL has it's own sound too. If you find somewhere DSL connection, connect phone to the same line directly (ussually there is splitter for phone and DSL modem, which filters DSL sound and sends it to respective port). This sound is pretty much pitched and is pretty fast to feel single tone which DSL data is sent.

  • what does this sound have to mean? it is always the same^^

ahhh i miss it... a little bit

  • @YunaHermy I use those as a backup device (for example regular internet fails, zombie apocalypse etc.). It's a bit like CB radio - old but reliable ;-)

  • @YunaHermy just the good ol' days ;-)

  • I used to receive incoming calls with my modem to play stracraft.

  • I LOVE that sound

  • ELSA!!

  • @JacquesDeMolay09 yeah, the good ol' metal box ;-)

  • Is it just me, or do you have the same lamp as I do?

  • @MachintoshCJ indeed, I can see some similarities ^^

  • Cool, thanks for the share! :)

  • @AlecJB glad you like it ;)
