  • I've done it, went to leyland homebrew.. unfortunately i asked for a 5 gallon tub instead of 5 litres.. should it be ok having such a comparatively low amount of liquid at the bottom?

    Also, by the time i'd finally dissolved the malt powder, it didn't smell quite the same.. i hope it can't burn can it?

  • @motormusic1 Just hope the fermentation kicks-off good and strong to fill the void with CO2.

    Did it smell malty?

    You never know, if it catches a little, any burnt bits may impart an interesting smoky flavour.

  • How much would you say that it cost to make the whole batch (both inclusive and exclusive of equipment costs)?

  • @motormusic1 excluding equipment: Malt £6.30; Ginger 63p; Yeast £1.20 = £8.13

    An essential extra cost would be a sanitising agent, of which 20p worth would be needed.

    Other costs would depend on the set up. The beer can be bottled in plastic pop bottles and primed with household sugar at minimal cost.

    A fermentation bin would be £4.20 and syphon tube £2, so minimum equipment costs of £6.20 over and above assumed basic kitchen equipment.

  • @BrewTubeUK thanks for that.. you've neglected to mention the price of that strange keg that you use near the end though. Still it looks massively cheaper than me going to the supermarket for a bottle of vodka lol.

    I've never seen powdered malt though.. do you go to a specialist?

  • @motormusic1 If you live in the North West, there's Home Brew shops that sell dry malt extract. My (Lance Lane) Pharmacy in Liverpool, Brew2Bottle in Northwich, Leyland homebrew, The Brew Shop in Stockport... depends where you live.

    My set-up has built up over a while, those metal kegs are about £50 and the CO2 cylinders cost about £10 to refill (but last ages) the cyclinders require a regulator ~£30, beer taps about £17

  • hi sorry its taken so long to respond to you! i would be happy to help with tips and ideas for any country wine you wish to make, its all about extracting flavour from whatever you chose to make, eg rosehip, rhubarb, nettle wine etc. but beware you are likely to have mixed results, let me know what you are interested in and i will try to help, also i have some cheap short cuts for wine making as well. kind regards Gezza

  • hi are you an airline pilot cos you sound like the captain on a flight to malaga but i love your videos i brew myself and have for about 30 yrs on and off , mostly country wines and beer from kits, although i know how to do whole grain i dont want to work that hard, i get great results from kits, best wishes Gezza

  • @gezzazoom Let's all be thankful that I'm not an airline pilot. I grew up with the zx spectrum and recall crashing the flight simulator an awful lot.

    I've yet to make country wine, so I'd appreciate any tips.

  • @BrewTubeUK dude, elderberry wine from real live elderberries is the best thing I ever made. I also make blackberry wine, great fun and pretty nice. I'll prob put up a vid of it soon. Youngs do cheap kits for these but they full of chemicals and chemical taste apparently.

    Please fasten your seatbelts, cabin crew doors to manual.
