Song of Songs refers to Christ and His bride, the Church. It is beautiful because there is no intimate love than the love that God has for His people. The love expressed in the consummation of Matrimony is but a shadow of that love.
I dislike how the guy calls Song of Songs dirty. Goes to show how perverted our culture is. I'm sure he's half joking and just trying to draw in the listener. But to call SoS dirty is a complete perversion of its beauty.
Hold on now, let's not jump the median on this one. . . Solomon wrote this for one of his wives - that's the traditional interpretation of this book and let's keep it at that. In that context, this song works for me, big time! God created us to be sexual beings (or at least, potentially...) but God Himself is not. He wants to have a deep relationship with us but let's remember, He is in Heaven and we are on earth. When God's ways become our ways (thank God they won't) forget about it!
I have seen him the last two years at the Andrew Peterson Christmas concert at the Ryman in Nashville. We fly in from Dallas to see that show and each year it has been well worth the travel. Check it out if you get the chance.
