my green singers I've just noticed started singing...I've had the pair for a little over 2 months now...they share a large cage with 3 male Zebras and a White Society Finch and they all get along very well..
have a small female green singer in a cage 5ft long and 15 inches high, shared by cordon blue, pair of gouldians , society fnch and blue capped parrot finch, they all perk up when they hear the sound of the male green singer. she lost her mate but does very well with the melange. so please keep this video. lois
this kind of birds are amazing, i bought 2 and they are fantastic, don't allow them to see each the other and you'll see, they sing no stop........they are the best...
They do have a very nice song. I bought one a few months back and it was singing non-stop until I bought a female for it. Big mistake. It stopped singing. So I separated them but he can still hear the female sometimes which makes him sing less. They are wonderful birds to listen to and they seem to have an inquisitive personality.
I've done lots of reading on the Singer and most say it's a pushy or aggressive bird that should either be kept alone -with a mate- or be kept with birds of similar size and aggressiveness. Societies are very peaceful but if they outnumber him that might keep him in check. But there are always exceptions with birds.
These birds have some of the most beautiful songs ever. It sounds much better than a canary's and it just makes me feel happy. Take care of that little wonder.
I have been using this wonderful video to teach my 6 mth old male singer to "sing". It is not really working. Do you have other suggestions? My female (same age) seems to be singing better than her "boyfriend".
We have a male green singer named Pippin Piper and his singing is just heavenly. He is the first finch we've ever had; he is a rescue bird. We love him.
My family has the same type of bird as a pet. Great songs. The bird's name was "Cheep Cheep" for obvious reason. The bird often chirped its name often and very well, too.
Nice song! We have a female who sings a lot: nothing like a male's song of course, but a very nice, clear little song, very pleasing to the ear... (She also does a fair amount of soft "chirping" that is also very pleasing...)
I had answered, but somehow it did not get posted. You can hear her sing and chirp in the vid "Serinus mozambicus: An update of sorts" on my channel (around 2:10, near the end of the vid).
SO pretty! I know you are supposed to have more than one of most species of finches. Is it ok to have just one green singer?
