The problem with the current model we have for aliens is that there is almost no way that they would share so many similarities with us unless we had some kind of relation to them.

We share 90% of our genome with cats, 60% with fruit flies, and 50% with bananas. It doesn't take much difference in genes to produces extreme differences in appearance, so for aliens to so closely resemble humans there would have to be some significant genetic relation.
