So, local operating procedures and policies would dictate such a liberty. However, it is a valid question because from genreal observation, wearing shades (unprescribed) doesn't seem necessary for this presentation.

Just as Richard Smallwood and Vision mastered crescendo, James Hall and W & P has truly mastered vibrato and staccato in a choral format. That's not easy to do. Awesome!
I tend to worry when people mistreat their voices like this.Yes,it may create a certain textural sound but I nearly lost my voice over the course of a year while working with a music director who wanted us to sing this way.I've had to take the past FIVE YEARS off just to see if I can recover my once mellow mezzo-soprano voice after barely a year of this abuse...I miss my musical ministry!

It's obvious, that this choir truly puts in the time to rehearsal, whether or not they are actively on the road or not. It is very essential for a choir to do what is needed to keep on top of their game. And I must commend the entire WAP crew for that.

@oneblessedlady i know dynamics, the reference to the two cannot be taken in the literal since. this is gospel, not operatic or bel canto. their means of vocal production won't really allow them to give true pianissimo and their fortissimo would still be considered incorrect as they are pushing their voices beyond what is healthy in terms of longevity and an overall round tone. that first valley slid right on down the tubes!!

Gospel music is NOTORIOUS for not presenting the correct usage of the voice.. And until the art of singing is taken seriously you will have performances such as this. oh ok. i guess...she still looked odd standing there, but i feel you!! they sang though...the whole song was either pianissimo or fortissimo...no in between...i love the black voice in all of its variety!!!

@couturesixfour Eh pianissimo is very soft.. almost a whisper... They were none of those.. Now fortissimo they are always.... I am not a hater Im just a person who loves music and cant stand when vibrato is used in this manner... Ugh soooooo ugly !

@oneblessedlady i know dynamics, the reference to the two cannot be taken in the literal since. this is gospel, not operatic or bel canto. their means of vocal production won't really allow them to give true pianissimo and their fortissimo would still be considered incorrect as they are pushing their voices beyond what is healthy in terms of longevity and an overall round tone. that first valley slid right on down the tubes!!

@couturesixfour How do you make that statement music is music theory and and technique is just that as well.... You cant make excuses for horrible singing.. Gospel music is NOTORIOUS for not presenting the correct usage of the voice.. And until the art of singing is taken seriously you will have performances such as this. And no offense to anyone here but who dont know music encourage this type of singing.. And choir members are in a state of shock when they have no voice after three years.

she is his soprano from way back!!! i remember her from all teh vids!! she gives such volume...a bit unfocused in her sound, but she screams back!! i love the strength of the human voice!!! and i love instituional...they are gospel history!!!
