The thing is, Kovi's the perfect hired gun. He can all but guarantee your team 40 goals per season. You have to pay him more because he doesn't care about your team; he wants to make money. He scores and gets paid. You can't fault him for that. I am shocked, however, that Jersey ponied up for him long-term, because that's the mistake the Isles made with another great hired gun in Yashin. For their sake, i hope he loves Newark.

I don't know why you're taking this so personally and so vehemently, but i think we misunderstood each other. My point is that Kovalchuck is talented, but overpaid (especially as a team cornerstone), and it's a potentially huge mistake by Jersey to sign him long-term. As i mentioned, he doesn't care about his organization, and he isn't a team player; he can't be counted on to preform as emphatically as a guy like Syd or Ovi who loves his team.

What I was trying to say was that Kovalchuck, while working on a lucrative 1-2 year contract, would potentially lead a strong team to a cup. However, as was seen with certain other players that may have been drafted by Ottawa and played for the Isles and are possibly in Russia now, signing a hired gun like him to a long term contract lets him be a lazy player, and still roll around in a pile of money.
