  • The greatest start recovery ever....

  • ben is still no.1

  • apart from the start its the fastest ever by far

  • 2/3rds of they way through the race and he's in 5th place!!! Top Speed is ridiculous!

  • if you measure his top speed it is actually as fast as bolt's, Usain just has a better start

  • @wolfdog45 usain has a better start?!! Dude! Wot are u talking?!! :)

  • Bailey actually had one of the best starts you can have. You dont want to start like a football player running a 40y, trying to reach top end speed as soon as possible. Its not about beating everyone the first meter and holding them off. The purpose of the drive phase is to push your hips into optimal sprint position to achieve the highest top end speed possible. Not rushing the drive phase, building up to top end speed. Carl Lewis is the perfect example.

  • @atltrackstar1 Yes, the faster you reach your top speed, the longer you have to hold it, and you're going to slow down at the end. Donovan always said that the key for him in winning that race was to stay within himself and relax, not forcing anything.

  • @MrPunk412 Alot of people equate not leading at 30m with a bad start. But it couldnt have been that bad if it was a world record haha

  • @atltrackstar1 Yeah, his start is not really bad, it's just that most of the other guys in that race are fast starters. He sure did pick up once he got in full stride.

  • Notice how white people are good at shooting and chasing ( biatlon ) and black people are at running away.

  • @TheoStarks Besides what I just wrote, everyone has different training and execution methods but the 100m is such a short event it doesn't make sense to me to not go all out for the entire duration. Maybe you'd do that in the first part of a 200m like Wallace Spearmon does. BTW, I do run track, 100m, 200m, and sometimes 400m. I am surrounded by several coaches nearly everyday and in speaking to them, not one has mentioned to me in my over 10 years doing this sport to not go max out of the blocks

  • @jimmyjoemonkey Sorry to but in, but TheoStarks is correct, you can look it up and see lots of videos as well. It's a biology thing. Human body cannot maintain top speed over entire 100. Drive/accleration, stride phase/top speed and deceleration. You should both check out this movie, great documentary about usain bolt.... The only reason i'm butting in, is because I was proven wrong over this very same argument.

  • @TheAngeltoDemon no he's not. i already know you start decelerating around 60m, that doesn't mean you have to limit yourself at the start of the race. You train speed endurance and great FORM to hold off the inevitable deceleration.

  • @jimmyjoemonkey I agree with what your saying here, maybe my point earlier was misunderstood.

  • @TheoStarks I don't know of any sprinter who conciously thinks that they should limit energy output at any point in a 100m. Get this, sprinters are TRAINED physically so that their acceleration to top speed will be lengthened, they aren't taught to limit output at the beginning to lengthen their acceleration to top speed. You don't want to sacrifice a max start at the beginning, you want to be able to go max, then have the proper training to reach top speed later. Best case scenario right there.

  • @TheoStarks you're full of shit, no one running a 100m race lays back to 'save energy', it's an all out sprint, bottom line.

  • Jamaica is and has been the sprint capital of the world for the past 25 years. Its sad because of lack of state of the art facilities and money we lost some of our athletes to other countries. Ben Johnson (even he cheated he was still very fast), Donovan Bailey and Linford Christie are all Jamaicans. You can tell how special Jamaica is in sprinting, when you compare our primary and high school sprinters to any other country. Jamaica currently has 3 of the 4 fastest men in history!

  • @westideas just remember that Johnson and Bailey didn't even start running until they had come to Canada so you can't claim then as your runners. But Bolt is the best ever so congratulations. I love Jamaica and the people there!

  • @westideas as well as youths and juniors

  • Kinda funny. African-American sprinters always ends up in the finals.

Makes me wonder. Cause European sprinters who gets below 10s have competed in Norway. So has Jaysuma Ndure whom is the best in Norway at the moment..

Maybe American runners are afraid to be exposed that they have drugs floating in their vains if they are checked by doctors here in Norway. We DO have zero tolerance and just recently allowed redbull in the country....

  • @skruf83 Congratulations on your country waiting so long to allow Redbull. Is that supposed to be fucking impressive?

  • @skruf83 Congrats, your country is still retarded

  • @skruf83 Norway are still crap - face it

  • I'm doing a project on this guy and his story is actually really interesting. DONOVAN BAILEY ROCKS!!!

  • He's still trash against Usain Bolt.

  • @XaviorOne So you have no idea of track.... bailey is one of the greatest sprinter in history!! so give him please a little bit more respect

  • @XaviorOne stupid comment froma stupid person.. you obviously have no idea about track

  • @CCMAR I know, you are so smart. Explain to me why I'm a track runner myself, and what idea? You're an expert, tell me.

  • bailey's top end speed was superior back then

  • 1 of my favorite sprinters of all time

  • I remember watching this live in Canada...my family went crazy!

  • This man has no technique...!! vry poor start...!! But stil running @ 9.84...!!! He worth much than that....

  • @sramsamy30 faster than you

  • great athlete to watch. always loved his rocking style and massive knee lift- with every jerk of his shoulders he seems to drag the others in. was great at the time and agree was a phenom to witness.

  • Donovan Bailey = Greatest Sprinter of all time and will always be my favourite! I remember watching this race when i was like 7!

    And just think!

If his starts were better and there weren't 2 false starts to this race, how much better his time could have been! =O

    YA DB!

  • @lecher23A here's a tip for you...theres a guy named usain bolt. he's ran 0.03s faster than bailey's best ever 10m split. and maintained it over 40-50m. plus starts much faster, and accelerates considerably harder. not only that he does it for the 200m also and has smashed Bailey's achievements in relays and at the intermediate distance of 150m. you should check him out.

  • @rcaddict72 ya i know Usain is good.

I didnt say DB was the best.

I just really loved watching this race and his showdown with Michael Johnson.

  • @lecher23A yeah i was just stirring you mate..sorry

  • I just found another close up slow motion video that shows Donovan jolting a little in the set position so he was rocking back as they were firing the gun, that's why his start was garbage.

They should've actually called everyone back to the line if someone had noticed.

  • @yawb1 Yes I just noticed the same thing on another video.Wonder if it was intentional.Mind games and all.I think not though.

  • shit! now thats top speed....with a shit start

  • im the worlds fastest man

  • Donovan Bailey is the sprinter has reach the optimum speed that human has ever reach in 1 second. He has achieve 12.1 mps in his personal best 9.84 at 1996 olympic final.

He is The Big Man in race 100 m.

  • The greatest champion , Definitely ...most ...TRULY FASTEST ever , how he catch Boldon and Frederiks in last 40 m and sets new world record , can you imagine that ?

He's the bigman in short track .

DONOVAN BAILEY IS THE FASTEST IN 100 m HISTORY

    Respect for Greatest Bailey

  • Usain Bolt???

  • @ curtisn33

bolt was covering 100 m with 41 strides ,he was relying on his long feet .

meanwhile the other was struggling with 45-48 strides .

    how do u think ?

  • @easybehave Usain bolt was clock at 28mph....

  • damn straight! the day Canada Dominated the Track Field on US Soil! Greatest Athelete for Canada, he made history! God Bless him and the Canadian athletes who ran the 400 m as well!

  • damn straight

  • Usain?

  • If only we (canada) could get some good sprinters again...

  • @Frenchytrack and donovan bailey was originally born in jamaica not canada haha

  • @Frenchytrack ahah ma fucker you're right Lol

  • Are you one of those pathetic Asians that wish you were white? You know...the kind that will put in blue contacts, denounce your heritage and try to mask the slant in your eyes. You all are soooo funny! If my body were flat all over including my face save for the slants I call eyes and my skin aged like dry bush, I would to.

  • greatest finish. he did it the lewis way. not easy to catch guys like mitchell, fredericks & bolton all at full speed. respect.

  • if only his starts were as as good as his finishes, imagine what kind of crazy times he could have acheived. still, i would be so pissed off if i was in front of him for 60m, only to see him cruise past me and 3 other guys.

  • are you serious db must probably have the best starts in track and field histroy his starts are the reason of his sub 10times and this is his only sub 9.9 time his endurance is shit because his pb in the 200m is 20.42 this is the only race that he has a shitty start he does hold the 50m wr u know :)

  • have a look at everyone elses comments. they all talk about his poor start and great finish. im no expert but hey what do i know

  • db starts were terrible even he said so.

  • thats insane how he comes from behind to win every race. Donovan must be the worst starting champion ever ;D

  • if he improved his start slightly, ben johnsons record would have been long gone.

  • @lemonademoosejaw he has the 50 meter world record. . .

  • theres no such thing as a 50m race >.>

  • @lemonademoosejaw or so you think. look it up in the record book

  • dude, 50M is infignificant, actually so is 100m so i dont know why it gets so much attention.

  • @lemonademoosejaw so which distance is significant

  • none to me, i prefer the winter olympics ;)

  • @lemonademoosejaw wow youre saying that running is insignificant and the winter olympics isnt. are you going to be figure skating if someone is trying to kick your ass?

  • have you heard of hockey? kick my ass? lol.

running is lame, anyone can do it.

  • @lemonademoosejaw yes i have. well i guess youve never been in danger. even the thought of it perplexes you. its good that you havent though cause you dont realize the importance of running. and yes anyone can do it but few actually do it well.

  • because i dont run from fights? LOL dude, quit pushing this on me.

    learn2fite.

  • @lemonademoosejaw no because youre like kick my ass? who? no. it cant be. thats why it seems like youve never been in danger

im not trying to push anything on you. believe what you want. im just saying that running is significant cause youre not going to fight a whole gang.

  • juarez? isnt that the drug capital of the world? what do they do shoot you?

  • @lemonademoosejaw you beat your lifesavers

  • i dont get it?

  • @lemonademoosejaw it depends on what. some things you do understand other things you dont

  • @lemonademoosejaw Did you knew that Donovan holds the 50meters world records?

  • @noju404 whaaaat are u serious?

  • @noju404 yea but a lot of sprinters have been faster than that in 100m race altough they delayed in the first meters like powell

  • @lemonademoosejaw

Go to hell, Donovan Bailey is the 50m WR holder (5"56) !!

"worst starting champion ever" you said...?

  • @Masterofathletics I gotta admit that Donovan looked like he got a flyer (possible false start but not called back) when he used to have the video of the record on his website (like 10 years ago now) but it stands so....

  • I'd love to see a race between bailey in his prime and usain bolt. I think bailey would take it since nowadays they have better shoes and the tracks are a lot faster.

  • I doubt it would make much difference. The track in Berlin wasn't known as being a fast track anyway.

  • the worst start but the best finish.....thats how u finish!!

  • Remembered screaming during that race vividly. He came through in the clutch and chased down 4 guys.

  • I also remember Bailey, in an interview saying that Jamaica was full of capable, fast youths, who just needed an opportunity, like him..... hmmm

  • i remember watching this live, it was pretty exciting because canada never wins in track and field. Bailey actually did a little bobble sway before the gun; they said he could have pulled a 9.79 if he didn't sway before the gun.

Also, he was 28 at the time and only started competing 2 years prior. Imagine if he had started young. His next olympics he was 32 and showed up with the flu, and flubbed his race...done, retired.

  • crazy these tenth of a second things

  • too bad he had such a shitty start - much love for canada and jamaica

  • it just looks so slow now.

  • Canada has alot of Jamaicans.

  • no match for bolt...

  • Sabadão, cheguei lá, 30 reais o quarto, uma toalha imunda, dei duas bombadas, enchi a borracha, esvaziei o saco e vazei!

  • The announcers make the vid =D

  • Wow, Bailey had a terrible start but totally power plowed through everyone!

  • daMMMMMMMMMM this guy could have run a 9.6 or something if he had a superb strt

  • @ tallbr0 : i agree...with a good start (like ato boldon), bailey can run in 9'65 or something like that

  • Bailey still holds the WR for the 50m,if you can imagine that.

  • No he doesn't mate- Maurice Greene has that

  • Well, yes he does.He owns it with Maurice. They have the same time.Check the records.

  • If he had a start like ben johnson and bailey's finish he would do a 9.65.

  • black ppl are fast because there always running away from cops

  • he would be lucky to make it into top 5 today.

  • lol no they are fast because they spend years and years and years training every day for this ONE event.

  • lol yea and it must suck for them only losing by a millisecond or so

  • if he got a better start he would be at 9.75 atleast.

  • i always thought he could hit a 9.6x if he had the same start he did against johnson @ the 150M showdown. i mean, there were 3 false starts, 1 by bailey. he was STAYING in those blocks lol. he went from last to first. same start as everyone else he would have had them by 5 meters. in my internets opinion of course.

  • Go Canada!

  • Black men have more fast muscle cells than white men. This is a scientific fact and that is why black men dominate running.

  • That's not quite true. People of west African heritage dominate in fast twitching muscles -> the sprints.

People of east African haretage dominate in slow twiching muscles -> long distances.

All the rest of the world is in between.

Side note: Among all people on earth, east Africans and west Africans are the most different ones genetically. THIS is a scientific fact. All the rest is in between them. Therefore all living people have their roots in Africa. (This is the current canon in science)

  • im not sure on this theory only because when was the last time a west african won the 100 meter dash?and i do know all these sprinters ancestors came from africa, like mine but who's to say where in africa?now the kenyans do have the distance races on lock but i think that's because of the high alttitude!

  • you're dumb, african americans are descendants of west africans. It's a known fact considering they were slaves and this is where they were plundered from.

  • Why does their colour matter? What century is this...the 8th place guy can kick all the posters asses.

  • Nothing!

  • black people are great at running, and white people chasing

  • hahahhahah! how true is this lol

  • they are all black because black men were the fastest back in those days and still have the fastest now check usain bolt ha ha ha wicked

  • i wonder why there all blakc?
