  • I hated these commercials back then, but kind of like them now. Time is weird.

  • I hated these commercials back then, but kind of like them now. Time is weird.

  • 1987 was the best year ever...

  • @michaeld5

Indeed. It was the year I graduated high school. Anyway, I wish Energizer would bring back Jacko and ditch the bunny.

  • That guy puts too much sugar in his coffee. Or too much coffee in his coffee. Or he eats energizer.

  • ha ha ha, now for your next trick, grow a brain f@#kstick!

  • Oh and americas rich culture of shooting each other, trailer parks, cars with suspension used in ox carts, shitty hospitals and education and such other things are a shining example to us all?

  • Fuck you

  • And this too is an example of a great culture.....A more intelligent approach would of been to say nothing at all rather then proving me right......

  • This guy would make a perfect Nintendo boss.

  • TOTALLY AWESOME. lol <3 OY!

  • Damn, that brings back memories!

  • What a wacker.

  • JACKO!!! Australia has always been cool, and JACKO is one reason why! OI!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Jacko will always be cool!

  • reminds me of max headroom a bit

  • At 00:05, i'm not sure, but it looks like his upper dentures slip down a bit. What do you think?

  • agreed, and that now freaks me out. thanks for pointing that out. heh

  • I think they definitely slip down!

  • Jacko was sitting at a table next to where I was sitting at a Greek restaurant I was at in Adelaide once, and I could hear his loud conversation with his missus and a mate of his. What a wanker.

  • He didn't say "OI!" did he?

  • He did!

  • aussie,aussie aussie,oi,oi,oi

  • While renegotiating his contract with Eveready, Jacko became extremely demanding about how much money and "creative input" he would get. He ended up throwing some stuff around, got forcibly removed from the office and was banned from ever returning or ever doing ads for the company.

Because of this, Eveready executives told their marketing team that they wanted no chance of a spokesperson going berserk ever again, and this is how the idea for the Energizer bunny came about. True story.

  • You don't happen to have a link to verify that story, do you? I couldn't find one at first glance on Google. If true, that's amazing.

I remember watching this ad 20 years ago. I cringe watching it again. Only a boxhead like Jacko could make an abomination like this ad. The 'I'm an individual' was equally dreadful.

  • I do not have a web link to verify this, sorry. An acquaintance of mine was an executive secretary at the Eveready headquarters in St. Louis, MO at the time this was going on (1986-1987 time frame). She worked directly for the top brass at the company and recorded the meeting minutes about this whole thing. Based on the way that she told the story and what I know about her, I think that she is telling the truth. Sounds like Eveready fired Jacko quite abruptly.

  • I think the fact that Jacko had a creative input into the making of the ads explains a lot about this embarrassing affront to good taste. He should have just stuck to footy and spared the rest of us his discordant and talentless noise pollution.

  • I'm with perkele on the earlier comment. I could have sworn that the Energizer bunny was around prior to Jacko, they tried out Jacko and he was obviously nutso (if for a brief moment...), then went back to the bunny which of course is their trusted mascot.

Would love to see those minutes though. Interesting discussion. Oi!

  • jacko was so great back in the 80s.i remember when they showed these commercials.every one in school had to have the same hairstyle.and an australin accent.for every stupid thing and going oi!but it was fun.thanks for the memories oi!

  • OI!!!

  • Too right!

  • Yeah Jacko!! Kick those other brands asses! OI!!

  • Jacko!!!!!!!! hahaha. Didn't know he featured in America on these ad's. Funny stuff. Classic 80's. You're not meant to take it seriously, everybody just laughs. At least everybody I know :):)

  • Oh jesus! Jacko may have been the down under flavour of the year but he was really obnoxious to me.

  • I remember these commercials so vividly!!! I guess you could say that that he was the Australian Version of Rocky Balboa used to sell batteries.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING! I remember this commercial as a kid. it brings back so many memories of the good times!

  • Why they replaced this guy with the rabbit is beyond me.

    Oy!

  • I think it was beyond him too, that's why they got rid of him.

  • Get Energizer, it'll surprise ya! OI!

  • Most annoying commercial of the 1980s. Oi!!

  • This guy was awesome.

  • Lol i remember our teahcer showing us this

    everyone was litterally ltao!!!

    f*king awesome!

  • everytime i see that damn bunny, i wish jacko would stomp it through the floor!! oi!! they need to bring him back for a life long energizer contract!!! where is this guy now?

  • that is the most hilarious advert i have ever saw... our teacher made us watch it in science.LOL

  • GIT-ENA-JOY-SAH! OI!

  • I believe this was at the height of that late 80s Australia infatuation that the U.S. went through.

  • Rumor has it he was difficult, whatever 'that' means. He probably just wanted more money than the ad agencies and producers wanted to pay...hence the term... 'difficult'.

  • Anyone got "I'm an Individual"?? Remember that shi-tty song?

  • This guy was a whole lot more entertaining before that brought in that annoying Energizr Bunny.

I remembered the Highwaymen, never lasted long. I wondered whatever happened to Jacko?

  • Jacko is friends with Mark "Chopper" Read and Warwick Capper.

Friends with a hitman and a wanker.

The Hitman (Read) is a good bloke. Warwick cannot be called a bloke.

  • He was on a short-lived NBC show called The Highwaymen. Then, don't know. I remember this commercial very well.

  • The 80s.....(shakes head)
