It's an NRA meeting (a bunch of gun owners) and it's a crowd with whom Obama is not very popular, due in part to his poor record on 2nd Amendment rights. If you think Huckabee was seriously suggesting that someone murder Obama, then you're delusional.
And since when is pointing a gun at a presidential candidate a FEDERAL crime? Is it a federal crime to point a gun at your or I?

Doesn't look that way to me, pong. Watch how he reacts to that noise. If that had been a spontaneous quip, there would have been an assessment of the situation and the formulation of his "joke". Plus, the "joke" was too elaborate and strained. The punchline had no punch, only the line "aim a gun at Obama." The premeditated nature of the threat is criminal.
There is a different level of tolerance for threats against presidents and candidates. It's like the "tolerance" for bombs on airplanes.

Huckabee wasn't shocked afterwards, except maybe by the fact that his "punchline" fell flat. Nice that there were only a few animals in the audience who laughed, but sad that no one booed or shouted him down.
That little "joke" was staged. There was at least one accomplice, and they committed a felony by threatening a presidential candidate.

When did Huckabee say Obama should be shot, or that he would shoot him (the threshold for a terroristic threat)? He didn't. He made a coarse remark, but not a terroristic one. It is inexcusable, but not unpardonable (it can never be condoned, but it should be forgiven because he came out and humbly apologized, making no excuses for his remarks). To refuse to forgive him is to refuse forgiveness for yourself when you do wrong.
