I think Ritalin is the worst of these meds, is not time released and the patient get a jolt of stimulation like speed. Adderall Vyvanse&Concerta are time released, but the danger is they all have methylphenidate. If you go to the Food and Drug site and search for the Ritalin warning sheet you will see the warning of heart and sudden death. These drugs are not safe for everyone. It is so difficult for me where I am because in order to get government funded treatment I need to get a letter from my doc saying I have 10 free visits with whoever, then I need to find a psychologist that specialises in ADD/ADHD, which not many do as it's mainly a psychiatrist thing, then get diagnosed, and THEN find someone to prescribe me medication. Meanwhile I have no idea what the hell I'm supposed to be doing haha

I have ADHD and when I take my meds I turn into a zombie. People who have ADHD and take stimulants have "paradoxical reactions" to them... it sloooows them down. Wow...so many things I want to say. I'll keep it simple... this seems like every college kid that wants to be high on a low dose of speed. I agree Adderall works better than ritalin however both are highly addictive. There is new research being done proving exactly how toxic those drugs can be. Truth is, Adderall just makes you talk and write more...Sometimes you just chase yourself in circles and think you are working...It took 5 and a half minutes to give us 1 minute of info by the way.
@DesertSmeagle Have you read the FDA warning sheet. The warning has been increased recently. Take anything other than Ritalin. Use Vyvanse and start with the lowet dosage. This stuff is highly addictive. It appears to be genetic, some people with a family history of alcoholism or mental illness should not use this. Go to a Psychiatrist not an MD. Good luck. If you are on Meth you also are going to have a lot of energy, but it's a poisoning drug. Adderall is addictive, and all it does is suppress your personality in the long run. I was failing all of my classes at school, i would ignore my personal relationships, and i couldn't focus on a damn thing. Well, i started smoking and i found that when i'm high i can evaluate my situation from a realistic perspective. I'm on 20mg of ritalin. One pill once a day. Friends and family say Ive become zombie like. It's difficult to explain but it feels like........ My original random fast paced thought's are #1 . Ritalin has made me able to slow some of my thoughts down, from what I can tell. I'll call it #2 Even though I now have #2 #1 is behind #2 and I can still feel the thoughts from both all at once. .... ahhhh.... It's a pain in the ass to try to describe something that can't be laid out to see.

so long story shourt. please don't think that the solution to your problems is a pill, trust me that can makes things worse in the long run and not better if you are not very carfull. to me you show signs of anxiety not add ( and please dont think you ned to go take xanax now because it will make things 1000 times worse). i think you should go see a new doctor and tell them ALL your problems you are having and let THEM decide whats best. dont decide yourself you have it and push it onto the doc
@drempt1 I agree with you. I haven't been able to find an ADHD specialist in KC, so have had to rely on my Doctor and Psychologist. The medication has helped me, but that's not everything. You can find "Workbooks" at the book store. I highly recommend! They give techniques that can help you "unscatter" your life. It takes work, but with certain tricks and new routines, you can make your life productive, while at the same time capitalising on some of the pluses of ADD (Hyperconcentration.)

I am 34 and developed adult add at puberty. I wasnt diagnosed until 25. I was extremely bright as a child-in gifted programs, etc. At about 13, completely lost focus in school. Grades fell. My son died after using Ritalin for 10 yrs for his ADD. Have you read the warning on the FDA warning sheet. It will tell you this is a very addictive schedule 2 drug. The NIDA has found by doing brain imaging this drug causes damage to your brain. You will need this forvever if you don't stop. Try using Sam-E herbal, and B12 sublingual. My son was so sweet and beautiful and the doctors talked us in to giving him this. Now I have only regrets.
@Thastorcyclone The autopsy report showed the level of Ritalin was 1200mg (62 pills of 20 mg), and the report said he had an enlarged brain. Cause of death was list as accidental overdose of methylphenidate (Ritalin). He had told a friend he had taken 50 in one day. I think he lost hope and lost count. He died after going to a halfway house, which was a dive. I wish I had checked it out, but he is free now and his war is over. I hate the shame he felt.

I don't deny the existence of ADD, but usually people who have real ADD are children with really extreme symptoms. Those are the ones who actually need the medication. ADD meds are very powerful and may cause long term brain and heart problems in the future. Most people that take the meds dont really have the extreme symptoms of ADD and their behavior is due to environmental factors, how you were raised, and self discipline. I'm old enough that ADD & ADHD were considered a BS diagnosis when i was in elementary school. They were an excuse for "lazy" or "retarded" kids who's parents either gave up on them or the school did. If you were having problems in school and needed help, you either were ridiculed in front of the class (as an example for the other students to know NOT what to be) or where told you need a swift kick in the ass. I struggled in elementary (1981-88) and was told i was just lazy.
@jandrbryan later in life I acquired ADD medication (college) and watched my grades go up. Not only was i able to focus better, but i didn't dread going to class. I actually LIKED going to class. I became so involved in wanting to do better, my social life took a nose dive. I constantly wanted to learn more. I was able to retain what i was reading and being taught in class. My writing papers were getting rave reviews by the other students. I for once felt that school was not a waste

I annoy you, I actually do have ADD, my drug of choice is Modafinil, and it works spectacularly well. Modafinil is not as strong as Adderall but its strong enough to allow me to get things done. I have actually tried Adderall, and I was bleeding from my nails, it made me dizzy. Not the effect I was looking for. Modafinil has very slight effects on your physiology, you do not get increased heart rate or high blood pressure unless at higher doses. Adderall has killed people.
I'm 26 and own a successful computer business. Adderall has helped me like you wouldn't imagine in the things that were not even close to possible before. After Using adderall for years I realized my previous functionality confirmed the ADD diagnosis. This drug and get out of control when you first start taking it though. Its very very very and I stress very dangerous. It takes some considerable time of taking it to exit the euphoric stage and actually do what it is supposed to do.
Adderall brought EXTREME clarity at an extreme price! Drinking 1-2 pots of coffee, smoking like a chaingun, not eating hardly ever and losing 35 pounds impacted my blood pressure apparently. 6 months of taking the pills, I had a severe seizure and lead to fibrillation of the heart (cardiac arrest). Ultimately my brain swelled and shut off stopping everything with it. Adderall is an amazing drug but from my experience I would advise paying EXTREME CAUTION to changes in your health, diet, sleep!

I had to use Ritalin as a kid from I was 8 years old till I was 17 I guess. Cuz of my ADHD. I remember having trouble being social, eating disorders, lack of sleep and dry mouth all the time.. I don't support this shit :p
Ritalin and Adderall are two different chemicals. When you're talking about waiting for something to "hit" studying doesn't come like that. It's honestly hard work. From what it sounds like you don't have ADD. Kids with ADD at a young age can't even get through school due to their condition without medications. The "clarity" and sleeplessness is because you're basically on legalized speed. Adderall is a legalized amphetamine and long term use can result in serious cardiovascular problems.

@Tj5923 Here's the research. Adderall was pulled off Canadian markets in 2005 due to 20 deaths all associated with cardiovascular problems on the medication. It was then reinstated for the benefits provded that a patient meets the criteria of ADHD under DSMIV as well as having no past medical history of hypertension or cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, amphetamines have a pharmacological adrenergic effect which can lead to CVS problems. Oh, I don't read online. I'm in pharmacy school =)

People with adhd have problems getting through the day do to lack dopamine levels in the brain, stimulants help them out. In other words if you DONT have a bad case of ADD and you take these drugs regularly you WILL have a bad case of ADD when you stop taking them. You have effectively given yourself a new disorder, congratulations. Take care of yourself. Cigarettes is legal and Marijuana is not. In this country, money decides what's safe and what isn't, not biochemist experts...and this is a multi-billion dollar industry. If you don't absolutely need it, please, don't take it , you will regret it.
ADD is an unclear, subjective idea. Anyone can take those drugs and focus more. So many kids in my university don't have ADD and take it for higher grades. Its like steroids for the brain. People have muscle deficiency and take steroids medically, but some bodybuilders abuse steroids to get better results in the gym. When they stop taking the steroids there body falls apart real bad! If you take this regularly, make sure you buy a lifetime supply. When you stop you will become seriously dumb!
Very interesting what you say... Because I take Ritalin now for a while and for maybe 2 hours I feel a "little" productive. But after 8 hours I drive home like a zombie. I think Ritalin is the worst of these meds, is not time released and the patient get a jolt of stimulation like speed. Adderall Vyvanse&Concerta are time released, but the danger is they all have methylphenidate. If you go to the Food and Drug site and search for the Ritalin warning sheet you will see the warning of heart and sudden death. These drugs are not safe for everyone. It's like alcoholism some people are genetically predisposed to be an addict. See the Study on Ritalin by the NIDA.

It is so difficult for me where I am because in order to get government funded treatment I need to get a letter from my doc saying I have 10 free visits with whoever, then I need to find a psychologist that specialises in ADD/ADHD, which not many do as it's mainly a psychiatrist thing, then get diagnosed, and THEN find someone to prescribe me medication. Meanwhile I have no idea what the hell I'm supposed to be doing haha

@DesertSmeagle Have you read the FDA warning sheet. The warning has been increased recently. Take anything other than Ritalin. Use Vyvanse and start with the lowet dosage. This stuff is highly addictive. It appears to be genetic, some people with a family history of alcoholism or mental illness should not use this. Go to a Psychiatrist not an MD. Good luck. It killed my 22 yr old son.

If you are on Meth you also are going to have a lot of energy, but it's a poisoning drug. Adderall is addictive, and all it does is suppress your personality in the long run. In the future, we might have found a way to use marijuana instead of adderall/ritalin, which is basically amphetamines. Amphetamine is a lot more dangerous drug than marijuana. Even coffee is worse than marijuana.

@drempt1 I agree with you. I haven't been able to find an ADHD specialist in KC, so have had to rely on my Doctor and Psychologist. The medication has helped me, but that's not everything. You can find "Workbooks" at the book store. I highly recommend! They give techniques that can help you "unscatter" your life. It takes work, but with certain tricks and new routines, you can make your life productive, while at the same time capitalising on some of the pluses of ADD (Hyperconcentration.)

I am 34 and developed adult add at puberty. I wasnt diagnosed until 25. I was extremely bright as a child-in gifted programs, etc. At about 13, completely lost focus in school. Grades fell. My son died after using Ritalin for 10 yrs for his ADD. Have you read the warning on the FDA warning sheet. It will tell you this is a very addictive schedule 2 drug. The NIDA has found by doing brain imaging this drug causes damage to your brain. You will need this forvever if you don't stop. Try using Sam-E herbal, and B12 sublingual. My son was so sweet and beautiful and the doctors talked us in to giving him this. Now I have only regrets.

@Thastorcyclone The autopsy report showed the level of Ritalin was 1200mg (62 pills of 20 mg), and the report said he had an enlarged brain. Cause of death was list as accidental overdose of methylphenidate (Ritalin). He had told a friend he had taken 50 in one day. I think he lost hope and lost count. He died after going to a halfway house, which was a dive. I wish I had checked it out, but he is free now and his war is over. I hate the shame he felt.

I will agree that stimulants are life savers for those who have a clinical condition such as ADHD or narcolepsy, however the ignorance comes from your assumption that I'm completely condoning the use of stimulants for people with a GENUINE condition. The message out there is a trend of "stimulants will help me study better" without the detrimental consequences. I don't deny the existence of ADD, but usually people who have real ADD are children with really extreme symptoms. Those are the ones who actually need the medication. ADD meds are very powerful and may cause long term brain and heart problems in the future. Most people that take the meds dont really have the extreme symptoms of ADD and their behavior is due to environmental factors, how you were raised, and self discipline. If you were having problems in school and needed help, you either were ridiculed in front of the class (as an example for the other students to know NOT what to be) or where told you need a swift kick in the ass. @jandrbryan later in life I acquired ADD medication (college) and watched my grades go up. Not only was i able to focus better, but i didn't dread going to class. I actually LIKED going to class. I became so involved in wanting to do better, my social life took a nose dive. I constantly wanted to learn more. I was able to retain what i was reading and being taught in class. My writing papers were getting rave reviews by the other students. I for once felt that school was not a waste

Then the meds ran out. my grades started to fall, and homework was just as foreign to me as listening to The Art of War in its native tongue. I then turned to illegal stimulants. Taking them in a medicinal manner, i watched my attention once again gravitate towards learning and remembering. Well, letting my better judgment take over I decided (after 6 months) to quit that. I never spent much, but the risk was too high. So here i sit again with every distraction fighting my ability to focus!

I annoy you, I actually do have ADD, my drug of choice is Modafinil, and it works spectacularly well. Modafinil is not as strong as Adderall but its strong enough to allow me to get things done. I have actually tried Adderall, and I was bleeding from my nails, it made me dizzy. Not the effect I was looking for. Modafinil has very slight effects on your physiology, you do not get increased heart rate or high blood pressure unless at higher doses. Adderall has killed people.

I'm 26 and own a successful computer business. Adderall has helped me like you wouldn't imagine in the things that were not even close to possible before. After Using adderall for years I realized my previous functionality confirmed the ADD diagnosis. This drug and get out of control when you first start taking it though. Its very very very and I stress very dangerous. It takes some considerable time of taking it to exit the euphoric stage and actually do what it is supposed to do.

Adderall brought EXTREME clarity at an extreme price! Drinking 1-2 pots of coffee, smoking like a chaingun, not eating hardly ever and losing 35 pounds impacted my blood pressure apparently. 6 months of taking the pills, I had a severe seizure and lead to fibrillation of the heart (cardiac arrest). Ultimately my brain swelled and shut off stopping everything with it. Adderall is an amazing drug but from my experience I would advise paying EXTREME CAUTION to changes in your health, diet, sleep!

Indeed it's a great releaf now i can explain my strange behavior.
Don't use ritalin or shit like that, it is a fucked up hard drug what makes your endorphine receptors overactive, gets u hooked on it an causes cancer at long term use. So it sucks!
I'm on a gluten/soja/caseine diet now what also sucks but it works already.
I'm getting LDN (google it!) soon and that is gonna cure me i hope.

adderall is the reason that i graduated high school...........it's amphetamine salts....and i have ADHD, Paranoid Schizophrenia, and General anxiety disorder.......................................Medication is bullshit...just another excuse for them to push their drugs on you...., My IEP file said that i was ultra violent and wouldn't have any friends..,,,,,,,,they were almost right. Do you know how many people are injured and dead from recommended amounts of FDA approved drugs? I remember telling people " these pictures are moving" and since then they moved me over to Ritalin which caused me to to go from 120 pounds at 22 down to 108 Pounds with no exercise in about a week 1/2! I am finally myself again! and regret being the anti social paranoid nut I was when I was on meds! I would recommend doing something more natural. ADD just takes Discipline not medication!

Ritalin and Adderall are two different chemicals. When you're talking about waiting for something to "hit" studying doesn't come like that. It's honestly hard work. From what it sounds like you don't have ADD. Kids with ADD at a young age can't even get through school due to their condition without medications. The "clarity" and sleeplessness is because you're basically on legalized speed. Adderall is a legalized amphetamine and long term use can result in serious cardiovascular problems.

@Tj5923 Here's the research. Adderall was pulled off Canadian markets in 2005 due to 20 deaths all associated with cardiovascular problems on the medication. It was then reinstated for the benefits provded that a patient meets the criteria of ADHD under DSMIV as well as having no past medical history of hypertension or cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, amphetamines have a pharmacological adrenergic effect which can lead to CVS problems. Oh, I don't read online. I'm in pharmacy school =)

People with adhd have problems getting through the day do to lack dopamine levels in the brain, stimulants help them out. Ask any who actually has adhd unlike you i bet many would say stimulants are life savers. Pharmacy school or not please do not be ignorant on a topic. If adderall was a so called "killer" it would not be prescribed so often.

In other words if you DONT have a bad case of ADD and you take these drugs regularly you WILL have a bad case of ADD when you stop taking them. You have effectively given yourself a new disorder, congratulations. Take care of yourself. Cigarettes is legal and Marijuana is not. ADD is an unclear, subjective idea. Anyone can take those drugs and focus more. So many kids in my university don't have ADD and take it for higher grades. Its like steroids for the brain. People have muscle deficiency and take steroids medically, but some bodybuilders abuse steroids to get better results in the gym. When they stop taking the steroids there body falls apart real bad! If you take this regularly, make sure you buy a lifetime supply. When you stop you will become seriously dumb!

Very interesting what you say... Because I take Ritalin now for a while and for maybe 2 hours I feel a "little" productive. But after 8 hours I drive home like a zombie. I'm totally tired as if I wrote a heavy test EVERY DAY! ^^ So - I think I really should talk to my doctor. Maybe he can get me Adderall - Though I think it's not legal in germany at the moment.
