Coral reefs die from the hogs rooting which allows the water and mud to saturate the ocean shoreline. Wild hogs carry several diseases including tuberculosis, they spread salmonella to vegetable crops, etc. Wild hogs have impaled adults and children. With a population that can triple every 6 months, hardly cruel.

There is zero logical connection between the two issues. In the civilized world, if an animal is causing such sever problems that it must be killed it is done in the most humane way possible. I prefer to hunt with a rilfe. I am an infantryman in the US Army, so that is what I am good with. I have no problem with a hunt like this though. You must be so devoted to hunting that you run your dogs every week or weekend, all year, or they deteriorate in health, skill and stamina. Running dogs every week is a lifestyle, much like raising horses, and should not be compared to hunting with a gun or bow which is a solitary skill.

I'm not against hunting, and I understand these pigs aren't native and are destructive to the island, but surely there must be a more efficent/humane way to kill them. Bears, moose, and countless other animals that are much more dangerous than a boar are simply shot from a distance without the use of dogs. Why not do the same with boar?

I actually love hunting (never been boar, but ive always wanted to go) and I have seen videos of people who stand there for 15 minutes and let their hounds just pull and bite while the boar squeals and suffers. I think thats messed up, but this was a quick find, and a quick kill. Nice job.

well, i agree with most of you. Pig populations are kinda growing out of hand and gotta be regulated. We did a control measure this summer where we shot pigs from Blackhawks. Looking from a civilian point of view, it was a cruel and barbaric measure. BUT!! this operation was initiated by the Wildlife and Environmental Agencies. So even the environmentalists are saying we need to control their numbers. Im a shooter, i like to end things quick, but hats off to all you knife and bow hunters.

You know why Hawaiians hunt with dogs and knives? There was a pig running loose in my neighborhood (common on the big island) I was going to shoot it but a house was behind it. That night it sounded like a shooting gallery with volleys going off every 20 minutes or so. When I asked my neighbors the next morning if they got it they said "no way, It wouldn't let us get closer than 40 feet" they were using rifles. I shot it later that morning with my 1911 when it crossed my driveway 30 yards away.
This is one of the most dishonorable ways of hunting I have ever seen. You make all of your dogs do the work and you stick it once or twice with a knife? That's a joke. Get a bow like the rest of the respected hunters in the world and stop forcing your animals to do the dirty work. I hope you get gored by the boar while your dogs watch.

I prefer to hunt with a rilfe. I am an infantryman in the US Army, so that is what I am good with. I have no problem with a hunt like this though. This is how people hunted before the advent of firearms. Good going guys, hogs are a feral species that kill native wildlife. That is why I only hunt them, and coyotes. I love my native animals.

I'm not against hunting, and I understand these pigs aren't native and are destructive to the island, but surely there must be a more efficent/humane way to kill them. Bears, moose, and countless other animals that are much more dangerous than a boar are simply shot from a distance without the use of dogs. Why not do the same with boar?

If you didn't get any thrill out of it, you would just go to the supermarket and buy some meat. I was saying in western societies the difference from 1000 years ago to today was that they hunted for survival, hunters today just hunt for fun and to fill there already full stomachs. I went hunting as a kid once, it's one of the reasons why I don't eat meat anymore.

well, i agree with most of you. Pig populations are kinda growing out of hand and gotta be regulated. We did a control measure this summer where we shot pigs from Blackhawks. Looking from a civilian point of view, it was a cruel and barbaric measure. BUT!! this operation was initiated by the Wildlife and Environmental Agencies. So even the environmentalists are saying we need to control their numbers. Im a shooter, i like to end things quick, but hats off to all you knife and bow hunters.

You know why Hawaiians hunt with dogs and knives? There was a pig running loose in my neighborhood (common on the big island) I was going to shoot it but a house was behind it. That night it sounded like a shooting gallery with volleys going off every 20 minutes or so. When I asked my neighbors the next morning if they got it they said "no way, It wouldn't let us get closer than 40 feet" they were using rifles. I shot it later that morning with my 1911 when it crossed my driveway 30 yards away.

This is one of the most dishonorable ways of hunting I have ever seen. You make all of your dogs do the work and you stick it once or twice with a knife? That's a joke. Get a bow like the rest of the respected hunters in the world and stop forcing your animals to do the dirty work. I hope you get gored by the boar while your dogs watch.

I enjoy hunting, mostly here in south Texas. But come on guys these videos are the kind of thing that give anti hunting nuts ammo. I see u enjoying hunting. all they see is a poor little defensless piggy getting hurt. I hope I didnt offend you. But I take care not to show the blood & toung hangin out when im in public & on the way home.

@hurleysux I agree with your last sentance although a knife kills just as humanely as the ever popular bow and arrow and the use of dogs is a flat out nessesary evil increasing hunter efficiency enough to try and control pig numbers.

@Doyouwantitsir the current "native" Hawaiians exterminated 29 species (to extinction) as well as the prior peaceful occupants of Hawaii. My family has lived in Hawaii for over a hundred years and I can tell you, the "native" hawaiian culture is violent, xenophobic, sexist. They're like the KKK only with darker skin.

@beaner4life You seem to have stated that you don't care if natural resources go extinct, so I must ask you: If the cow were going extinct, would you care? How about lettuce? Wheat? What about a bird that was used to make a brilliant feather cloak for kings? Or a plant that had medicinal values? Or one that has no value at all except simply existing and being slightly interesting to nature lovers? The main question: where do you draw your line?
