  • this is so cool dude, im making one in the style of an ibanez RG350MZ

  • How much did it all cost to make in total?

  • very nice video. I enjoyed it with my boy.

  • drillpress?

  • @ababyinthesun i never got offered one and money is scarce

  • Dude. Love the detail put into the Uke and the vid, especially as you say you had to Google a few chords to give it a test run! Classic. Sounds sweet. I'm rigging one up for sure. Anything you usually play on the top (bottom) four strings of guitar will translate directly to Uke but in a different key.

  • The author of this video was looking for new members for his cool club so he thought he'd pick out the ones with the ingenosity of searching for 'electric ukelele' on Youtube.

And since he created one of those himself, he's the boss of this club.

  • Hi, did you just use normal electric guitar strings, and just put them in a ukulele sequence?

  • Absolutely outstanding! You seem to have used mostly hand tools and patience. Did you use any specialist tools?

I'm hoping to attempt a build of my own at some point soon, so if you can recommend any "must have" tools that would be great.

    Thanks for sharing your video.

  • @ShiftySquirrel use of a bandsaw is very time saving to cut the body curves out , probably a jigsaw with suitably thin blade would do . otherwise a good selection of sandpapers and a drill

  • @neonpike Thanks guy!

  • that looks amazing :O I'm planning to make my own ukulele, but have no idea which electrics to buy, please could you give me some obviously expert advice??

  • @samsbananas1066 i used guitar parts for electrics . the pickup is a telecaster neck pickup ( or copy ) and if you go on the seymour duncan wiring diagram site under the heading single pickup one volume you will find the wiring plan .

  • Where did you find out how to build an electric ukulele? I wan't to build one of my own.

  • @MrAwesomeAnimation i put together a few guitars previously and had pickups and machineheads left from those . i took a rubbing / tracing from my cousins ukulele neck and the distance from the nut to the bridge , and worked from that . the overall shape was from a lot of doodling

  • Wtf

  • Make me one? And ill buy it please! Haha

  • OMG!

  • that was pretty awesome. do you create instruments for your job or did you get all of the instructions from the internet//experience?

  • @megablade12345 thanks . it was from a sketch i did for a proposed guitar . i had a couple of nice pieces of wood that were too small for the guitar , and wanted to try making a neck from scratch , so i built this

  • Ow Em Gee *o* I wished i could make things like that.

  • What's the song btw?

  • @thepurplecrystalz i dont know how to play uke , so i got a couple of chords off google then improvised

  • @neonpike Oh, cool, man. Well, like I say, that think looks BAD-ASS

  • Now that'z a bad axe.

  • thumbs up if you love the noise at 3:05 :D

  • @oliman5 hi oli its me gabe hehe i love that noiiseeeeee :P

  • you could make a fortune selling this

  • how do u wire it???

  • @PyramidHead11000 the wiring is from the seymour duncan pickup wiring diagram site , under single pickup one volume , the pickup is a telecaster type neck pickup

  • if u made some adjustments can u make an electric guitr from this process?

  • @PyramidHead11000 yes just the same . i would probably get a neck to start with . the uke is o.k without a truss rod in the neck but a guitar needs one for metal strings

  • How many day you took to built this electric ukulele?

  • @facedownfellaz i worked a few hours a day for a few weeks

  • Please... selll me this

  • @millermaphia i sold the ukulele a few years ago to a guy in the US , who has his own youtube site ( canarycreek ) he recently sold it on

  • @neonpike Well you should make another and sell it to me=)

  • Excellent.. Ignore the twatty negative comments.

I'd much rather see an instrument made from recycled materials than add to the demand for tropical rain forest timber !!

    Besides, it gives it character.

I just made an electric guitar using a toilet seat and an old Fender Strat neck my mate got me at the bootfair for £2 !! and I have to say, I'm rather chuffed with it.

Check out my vids of it being played.

    Cheers

  • thank you THAILAND...

  • This is a really soothing video for some reason.

  • Respect for radiusing the neck by hand with a sanding block. That must have taken a while.

  • Facinating !

  • That's so awesome, dude.

    xD

  • That is the cuteset guitar I've ever seen.

  • @rahagbab .... ukulele

  • @2SittingDucks Of course...

  • nice job man im very jealous

  • How long did this take you to make?

  • @SillyMeProductions7 a few weeks , but i really didnt keep track

  • Neat sound, mate.

  • i'm planning to make a uke with an explorer shaped body for a project, you just helped me so much with this video! thanks

  • woooooooooow respect guy georg from germany

  • that is sooooooo good!!!!

  • omg who are you

  • how about some electric ukelele backgroung music next time. you make ukeleles like a dick

  • @mclaughlindw4 cheers man . i,m sure you,l put all that right when you put your video on

  • @mclaughlindw4: You're a fucking retard.

  • Gotcha. It just looked like you pulled it out if a random pile of wood. Well done.

  • That's amazing. But why use junk wood on something that takes so long to make?

  • @dougefresh091 why junk wood ... american red oak and elm body work pretty well

  • seriously dis is great my normal uke needs a companion r u still making any?

  • @CLASIFIEDboy not for a while , sorry

  • @neonpike thats ok i just wanted another uke

  • Cut your finger,eh? Hardcore.

    This thing is so awesome!

  • Can you make me one

  • @skaterkids304 i,m not making ukes at the moment , sorry

  • nice vid

what did you use for the frets? and

is it easier to make a flying v or one of these?

    thanks

  • @longliverock1996 i got the fretwire from e bay . it was guitar type . just make sure its a reasonably low type ( or better still ukulele fret wire ) a single length was just enough . a flying v would be easier . all straight cuts and then the points rounded off slightly . the neck pocket is the trickiest bit . the only way to avoid routing or chiselling it out , would be to make the body out of two slabs of wood the top one having the cut out , the bottom left as the base of the pocket

  • lol,I cnt get over the awesomeness

  • u a genius!!! i wanna make an electric ukelele aswell! how much did the pickups cost and how many hours of work did it take?

  • @MrOhWhatTheHeck i had the pickup from a telecaster which i had replaced with a humbucker . you would get a tele neck pickup off e bay . i worked on the uke for about three weeks a few hours a day . if i had used a neck from a second hand instrument , the build time would have been a lot less

  • What did you use for a pick-up?

  • @zedzknight its a fender telecaster neck pickup

  • Awesome! Now make a guitar.

  • @WormYourHonor64 theres a couple amongst my other videos

  • @neonpike Really? Cool. I'll watch them then! Thanks!

  • fantastic can i ask what strings you used (been struggling to find metal strings for my electric uke :)

  • @D1GZSTER if you look under steel ukulele on e bay you should find some

  • dude u should sell those. o and if you do how much would you sell it

  • @AdamtheRandom1 thanks , thats the only one so far . if i make more i,ll be posting them on youtube

  • @neonpike cool cool

  • Damn, junior........nice frick'n job. Looked like a lot of work. But worth it. Once again,

    GOOD JOB!!

  • he made this uke like a boss

  • @BIGTIMAH808 Like a baws

  • Really nice piece of art :)

  • do you want to make me a guitar :D ?

  • how much to make one exactly like it

  • @BLOODELFSRULE sorry , its not repeatable . i used materials i had available at the time , and woudnt repeat what ive already made

  • @neonpike one like it but different wood?

  • @BLOODELFSRULE i had a rummage through my wood store recently and found some sapele red wood . there would be enough to make a uke , but i,m thinking more a violin shape with a metal mesh front . just a thought at the moment though

  • @neonpike that would be cool

  • i like how he doesnt play it till the last 7 seconds...

  • @marie0cartwright .... i,m not sure if thats a comment on my playing .... but theres two people playing the ukulele if you look under danny harvey ukulele and on canarycreek channel skip is playing it through a mico cube

  • Does this have the same size measurements of a traditional ukulele, or did you just make it , not worrying about the size?

  • @DoctorOrion1 i borrowed my cousins ukulele and took a rubbing / tracing of the neck , frets and bridge all on one piece of paper , so i could get the proportions right

  • i love how this whole video is really manly with every tool under the sun being used, and the end product is a ukulele :D

  • Wow this is amazing. Inspired me to make one myself. Would you mind giving me some tips on how to get started?

  • @sanman312 i would buy a second hand ukulele with a decent neck , take a rubbing or tracing of the top of it so you know where the bridge needs to be in relation to the neck . take the neck off ansd use that as the basis of the electric one

  • @neonpike Great job! do you build and sell these? I would order one. let me know

  • @RicJak1234567 thanks , i usually work with guitars , so it may be a while till i get around to another ....unless i find some interesting materials that would suit a uke rather than guitar

  • @sanman312 avoid pithy wood or fibre board for the body . pine is easy to shape and sounds good , but is easily dented . i think ash and poplar are good too , and if batons of timber are all thats available , glue them together till you have the width you need . lay the neck on a sheet of paper and mark where the bridge will be , and sketch some shapes till you find something you like . with electric instruments the shape wont really affect the sound

  • @neonpike Cool thanks. Can I use some old fender telecaster pickups for the pick ups? Or are there any other pickups that you would recommend?

  • @sanman312 any guitar pickup should work if you put it at an angle so all the polepieces are under the strings . the only reason i used a telecaster neck pickup is that the chrome cover looked right to me

  • Could you make a wiring schematic for this? What pickup is that? thanks

  • @isaacwilk the wiring is from the seymour duncan pickup wiring diagram site , under single pickup one volume , the pickup is a telecaster type neck pickup

  • Ive made an electric ukulele of my own and Ive pretty much finished it but ive got one problem, i bought the only metal strings that i could find and they are tuned to EBGD so they sound really dodgey tuned to GCEA, do you know where i could get some ones that work or how to tune the ones that ive got properly? Thanks.

  • @MarksArt123 i got mine from e bay . look under steel ukulele

  • I'm making one of these in my woods class, but i can't find any place that sells the electronics, such as pick-ups etc. Where did you get yours?

  • @animeMonkey808 i got my volume pot and jack socket from e bay .... standard guitar parts . i had a telecaster neck pickup in my bits box but i,m sure you,d get a fender squier one from the same place

  • @neonpike Thank you so much for the help.

  • I found this absolutely fascinating.

  • amazing vid son, good job

  • what do you do in 4:32 ? Im also working wiht ukuleele

  • @GuitarsBlood i,m finding where to put the spindle of the machine head/tuner by taking a line from where the string will be on the neck and taking it through onto the headstock

  • @neonpike i mean that silver paint/glue thingy :D what's that? :D

  • @GuitarsBlood i used aluminium sheet to shield the electrics cavities against outside interferance . self adhesive copper is available for this , and if you do it , it should be wired to the earth of the control circuit . many guitars are not fully shielded

  • @neonpike thanks! i should try that! i'll post a cover to youtube when i finish it :D

  • @GuitarsBlood look forward to it

  • Wow, this has inspired me to try and make my own electric uke :D I was just wondering if anyone knows what pickup that is or where to buy a similar one?

  • @MarksArt123 its a telecaster neck pickup . there are six polepieces under the chrome cover , but if its angled under the four uke strings theres a strong even coverage

  • @neonpike Thanks for the reply, just one more question, if i buy one what else do I need for the electronics, for example the knob and the output jack?

  • @MarksArt123 you would need a guitar volume pot and a guitar jack socket , both available from e bay or electric guitar spares shops . for a circuit diagram look on seymour duncan pickup diagram site . single pickup circuit one volume no tone

  • Can you have just a standard electric guitar lead and amplifier for an electric ukelele??

  • @GreatDestructo yes , if you go to canarycreek youtube videos , he is playing this uke through a roland cube

  • I really want one of those

  • A glorious creation my friend. Just gloroius.

  • how much did it cost to make it.

  • @RnDnproductions i was given the wood for the neck and body some time ago , and the pickup was in my parts box ,so i bought the fret wire vol pot and jack socket

  • How long did this take you to make? And OMG, I want one xD

Do you sell them? This is SO clever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there should be a love button <3

  • @fizz141 bout three weeks -ish , fizz . just made the one at the moment , as ive gone back to guitar stuff . good luck with the chunking

  • howd u do the wiring? and what pickups did you use?

  • @kingkumber the wiring diagram is same as a single pickup guitar ... i think its on the seymour duncan pickup diagram site . the pickup is a telecaster neck pickup , raked at an angle to put all the pole pieces within the influence of the strings

  • @neonpike wow, thanks heaps

  • you're a fucking master dude!

    fo sure nigger! fo sure!

SALUDOS DESDE ARGENTINA :D we agree that you are the best fucking luthier ever homey!

  • Man, this would be a great uke in a tenor size. LOVE the design!!!!

  • i just kind of make instruments to try new things . i have a few other projects lined up , so it will be a while until i get round to another uke !

  • dude bravo such amazing work how much would you sell one 4

  • Bravo! And it sounds really great!

  • Very well made.

  • @canarycreek

Are there any plans for the uke?

  • hi!

the steel ukulele strings that i found on ebay i think they're just simple electric guitar strings.

can you tune it to G-C-E-A ?

or is it possible that these could be good as well?

  • looks like a guitar

  • @canarycreek You bought this uke from him? Are the strings steel? Are the tuners handcrafted? How much did you pay for it? Any answers would be much appreciated. It's a beautiful little thing.

  • oh that's great!! think I'm gonna get the black les paul model...it's gorgeous....not as much as the one from this video but it looks great too, thank you

  • Hello neonpike, I want one of these seriously but with the body imitating a fender strat black and white, is it possible? how much would it cost?

  • @Andylikestofunk if they still make em , theres already a strat shaped uke on the market by stagg .

  • @Andylikestofunk if you look around on ebay you can find alot of completely electric ukes for about 100-200 dollars just look around plus amazon is selling a blue electric uke that i have had my eye on for the past month

  • @superdarkhypersonic1 Those ukes are no way as cool looking as this electric uke. I wouldn't spend my money on something so... mundane. ;-)

  • pretty cool dude

  • Where did you get strings for this! ? I've been looking all over the internet and I can't seem to find electric ukulele strings.

I'm thinking about making one much like this, and I want to make sure the strings are available first!

    Thanks

  • @adelineshift i got the strings from e bay . they were listed under steel ukulele

  • @neonpike great thanks so much!

  • Are you a professional? What is the best way to get started making stringed instruments?

  • @kyreks4 i do sell instruments as well as other things i make , so its partly commercial . but i tend to make the stuff that inerests me rather than building to sell . as for the best start , i would say buy a good neck and a bridge , and play with shapes . i avoid making whats already out there . theres already plenty of conventional , shiny well made instruments . look at videos where people are working with the same equipment as you have available

  • @neonpike Thank you so much! Is the ukulele hard to play? Similar to classical guitar?

  • @kyreks4 i learned a few chords after i built the uke , and found it very rewarding to use . the instrument now lives in america , if you look on canarycreek its new owner has videos of him playing through a roland micro cube .

  • @neonpike Would it be possible to purchase one from you?

  • @kyreks4 sorry , i dont have any others at the moment , i,m back to working on guitars again , i may build another in the future but i cant say when

  • @neonpike Any idea if I can purchase one of *those* from you?

  • @kyreks4 anything i make , i,ll put on utube , and i,ll certainly let you know if ive got anything i,m selling . thanks for the interest

  • @neonpike not a problem :)

  • very very cool

  • Seeing how it was made makes me appreciate it even more.

    This is great.

I'm still only learning to play.

  • what strings did you use?

  • @grandpaul94 i cant remember the brand , but i think they were listed under steel ukulele on e bay

  • where did u get the electric parts?

  • @marlinman76 i had the neck pickup from a telecaster i took to pieces . all the other electrical parts were from ebay and axes r us

  • you are really devoted to your work!

  • what do u use for the frets

  • @20zd i bought a length of fret wire ... probably off e bay

  • @neonpike hey do you use it with a common amp or with a special one?

  • @matewanos its being used with a roland cube by its new owner . if you go onto canarycreek s site , its among his videos

  • can you send me some sort of a more detailed way to do this including wood sizes, sandpaper grains, what tools, and so on. im desperately trying to create one out of scrap wood at my house but im new to this stuff

  • @mistermen440 i didnt work to any plans , or keep a record of what i did . the only bit that was standard was the neck , and i got the measurements for that from a borrowed uke . sorry

  • how much do you sell it to me??

  • @ilmatteo95 its already sold , sorry

  • @neonpike noooooooooooooooo, it was beautiful!!!!! can i ask you how much did you sell it??

  • @ilmatteo95 it was a few months back ...... i think it was around £170 plus postage to the united states

  • hey man i'm trying to make my uke with metal strings ... what type of strings and what tuning were the strings? --Please post back on my channel ;) nice Job

  • how do you measure out the frets>? how do you know if they are correctly spaced?

  • @mugwaii321 there are some fretboard plans on google .. or lay a piece of paper on the fretboard of a borrowed ukulele and rub over it in one stroke with charcoal or a soft pencil
