Pretty much my favorite Love song of all time. Iggy doesn't dress it up. This is ever more resonant for its simplicity in conveying a broad message. Bad ass, really.
Oops, I didn't have the time period listed very well...I meant his time from the (1980-1986) post-Stooges until his successful return to pop music charts via his old friend and mentor David Bowie (producer for Blah-Blah-Blah). That collaboration and endorsements from other music industry veterans plus a successful court case that gave him back control of his original music catalog finally allowed Mr. Osterberg to stretch out as an artist and exercise or excorsise his own creative muse.
I have been trying to learn about the guy for a while now and his life is a real pastiche of work. This version of Iggy was from a period (1980-1984) when he had manged to survive the legendary excesses of his early career and was working to build his reputation again as a professional entertainer. He tried a less downbeat approach in his music that I really like, but since it didn't have much connection to his legendary beginnings anymore, it seemed less interesting to his fans.
this song and this video and the lyrics and the melody all together just makes my heart overflow. im not an emotional person but this one makes me want to cry
I think this is a wonderful song but the production makes me want to puke. Did he ever remake it or is there a later live version somewhere without the horrible 80s production?
This song and video mesmerized me with some kind of creepiness. Is it just 1986 production or Iggy's basic weirdness? I can't decide on this song. It's cool and honest and also strangely depressing.
"Blah Blah Blah" was Iggy's sincere effort to open up to a greater audience. Based on all his biographies, it followed the worst period of his life, his peak in oblivion and darkness. It was a one shot effort, either success or total poverty. Bowie helped, everything went perfect, the album turned out to be a classic and Iggy is now alive and kicking giving us music like no other. I agree on "honest", but not "depressing". I think it's calm and hope expressed in a proud manner.
@GeorgeVsTheDragon Do you think maybe, just maybe, somebody made him a bet that he couldn't write a song about a pair of sunglasses? I know the way songwriters are. Not as a joke but as a challenge. The reality sometimes can be different than our own ideas. I am an Iggy fan though and it causes me to want to like everything he's done. Therefore I like the song. When It first came out it I was like 14 and it truly reeked of cool compared to what else was playing. It was my introduction to Iggy.
@surfmcgoogler just that mid-late 80s thing going on.. had to be the worst period ever for haircuts and general rubbish fashion. The budget on this video must have been at least .. $50
