Personally I hated that retcon. It was sloppy, lazy, & muddled up John's already complicated past. It was only a few years prior that Tony was his supposed half-brother.
As the 90's & this storyline demonstrated perfectly, there was NOTHING wrong with the Stefano/Marlena/John dynamic to warrant making John & Stefano brothers.
The Colleen/Santo bullshit is one of the WORST travesties to happen on Days. It severely damaged both John & Stefano's characters, IMO. Lazy destructive writing.
