  • doh you tikam belok-belok what time nok kene.....hahhahahahahahhah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • pandai kita tu eh

  • Lol 2:28 kick to the the bollocks

  • Good technique! ^_^

  • this video is really impressive, all your videos are.

  • Hello Guro Maul. I've watched your videos many times and have practiced the techniques with my partners over the last few years. This video alone could be studied for a year... I find your style to be fluid and smooth. Since this video is 5 years old, I'm curious whether your knife techniques have evolved. I could be wrong, but it seems like the techniques in this video are very direct, while your most recent videos show greater use of hand throws, sapus, and complex combinations.

  • Next time in your demonstration use a chalk knife, wear all black, and actually try and go full speed and hit each other, instead of this semi rehearsed bullshit where you telegraph all your moves.

99% of the time in a knife disarm you get cut or stabbed at LEAST once, more if the assailant knows what they are actually doing.

  • @zippy476 I call that the manson drill :P, but we do it with big markers and old clothing

  • last week a fucking idiot comes after my money when I was coming home and he was with a knife he tryed to stab me in the back but I take his knife I don't know how but When he was like come after my back I catch his hand and tome his knife then he run away

  • Cool

  • It's all about keeping the middle distance.

  • they are skilled so highly. their training will be effective if the androids become against human.

  • i haven't seen that "War stances"(kuntao) for ages.. nowadays senior(old) people too afraid to past the knowledge to their young...

  • @radhiya2006 yeah, even my deceased grandad never taught me kuntau-banjar that he know, now i have to learn it from someone else T.T

  • bulschid

  • talk about castration

  • That is our bassist :) (sankaramusic on myspace) we are so glad that Maul565 is such a great professional trainer.

  • amazing!!!! the silat is an martial art than inspired me too much respect!!!

    sorry my english

    saludos!!!

    CLF chile

  • that shit is raw

  • knives are much quicker and have more lethal tactics

  • learning a single martial arts and know how to apply it is a thousand times better than learning hundreds of martial arts but does'nt know how to use it. =D

  • the knives they use in these vidoes (they have the same ones in kali videos)-what is that perticular style called?

  • OMG!!!

  • Very well done.

  • I like the "cut the balls off " tecnique :)

  • this is a men...

  • daaamn goood skill boys

  • if a person did progessive indirect, this routine would prove to be useles. Its basic and not effective.

  • there is NO blocking, Do the drill, hit, hit, hit, move, move, move, hit, cut, hit , cut, hit, cut, move, do the drill, do nothing but the drill.

Oh, and don't forget to smile.....

  • poor groin area :(

  • holy crap r those real!

  • wow...you guys are impressive...thanks for the video.

  • Nice video btw.

  • Knife fighting, some say you see a knife turn around and run. But sometimes you don't have that option, so what do you do simple don't just block the knife grab the attackers hand. Knife fighting is very psychological, and you must bear in mind you might get slashed if you fuck up, so your senses must always be aware and you must be aggressive, the block must have a strike in it as well as a grip. Grab the attackers arm, strike it at the same time and strike the attacker. Krav Maga basics.

  • why are you always pointing the Penis

  • its not the penis its the inner thigh, and im pretty sure its becouse a large vein runs through their and if you cut it the enemy will bleed out really qucik.

  • the machete one should have commentary,

"I chop your arm off, orrr....

I chop your leg off , or.......

I chop your head off , or......

    etc. etc."

  • 01:38 ... outch!

  • AMN, bare in mind these guys would be very pissed and angry, I would not be wanting to be on the receving end.

  • although im sure in a knife fight these guys would likely win, most of this seems pretty impractical and unrealistic. many of these arm blocks would not stop a determined attacker from knfing you in the side or the neck, though i suppose you would block with much more opposing force i still think there are far simpler safer and more realistic ways of winning a knife fight

  • If you're not really familiar with the art and/or its application, it's easy to misunderstand the drills. None of the movements are blocks, but redirections. They are not meant to stop an attack, but guide it to a specific location for a specific purpose. Blocking, especially with "more opposing force," is generally a serious error, as it requires wasting energy (due to strength and force expended) and time, neither of which can be spared in any confrontation, let alone one of this kind.

  • VEry nice! Very smooth and very efficient! Lovely stuff! Great post!

  • Even the training/dummy weapon is dangerous they have to slow everything down

  • i dont get why people do these stuff i mean if i wanted to kill a guy with a machete i would just throw straight at them, how r u gonna block dat...if i were to b held up by one i would just run away in zigzags...its as simple as that

  • so in a more simple word, you prefer to be a coward. thats understandable :) run zig zag LOL

  • Idiot. My wife and I were mugged by two guys with 20" machetes. You don't run, you don't fight back. You give them money, cameras and phones and hope they don't try and kill you afterward. Then, when they tell you to, you run in the other direction. These guys in the video are doing a coreographed dance. It's easy in daylight when you are sober and you know where and when the attack is coming from and it is only you you need to worry about.!

  • the magic word in your comment is "hope they dont try and kill you afterwords" = you hope. Some people prefer to do something about it. What if you cant run or they dont let you go becaue you've seen thier faces? Knowing something is better than knowing nothing, especially when you have someone you care with you - will you run away and leave her to save your own skin?

  • I spoke to a sensible Aikido Sensei today who told me that in fights both people usually get hurt. You just hope they get hurt more than you. If the other guy has a knife, and unless you are some super talented master of your art, You are the one who is most likely to come off worse. I would die first to protect the ones I care for. But the inevitable is the inevitable. Good luck with the next time you are attacked by someone with a knife. I hope they don't kill you.

  • I sorry about your experience. but these guys are not doing a choreographed dance it is a drill and this is the way you learn to move with a knife... and you dont have to be a master to stand up to people armed... even a basic self defence course may be able to help.... I have never been attacked by a couple of guys with machetes but I have been attacked by a group of thugs with a stick.... and i didn't run or anything I just stood my ground... you see, they prey on those they see vulnerable

  • I'll agree with that to a point. I've had guys threaten me just because they were bigger (not saying much there) or there were more of them. Tough talk got me out of those situations. But that's not always the case. The majority of the population is not trained to fight and most of those that are have competitive training only. So there's no reason for a criminal to doubt his odds of winning, especially if they have friends and/or weapons.

  • you dodge it by getting out of the way

  • silat is self defense for asian people in brunei from Wan work at jesselton point

  • those 'practice-machetes' look like barongs!

  • Hi everybody. I'm an italian silat student. The style I study is Buka Jalan from guru Cass Magda. I really appreciate and respect your work and your school brothers. With respect to you all and to your master. If you want peace, prepare for war (si vis pacem para bellum).

  • I love what you do...keep the video coming.

  • Nice

  • lol if some on trys to stab u grab their arm and kick em in the balls

  • thats why u never make the first move.

  • Looks good.-

  • i need these guys as my security team

  • to become a real fighter you must adopted the style in martial art to real fighting like street fighting situation that has no style if run is needed than you should run that wasn't afraid to your enemy but to safe yourself that he has the power that time. that's way i suggest that learner to always do lot lot lot of practice to become professional and prefect .

  • hahaha dumbass... the video is to show how to respond towards a knife attack. the techniques and the counter attack move. thats what silat is all about. Its intercepting an attack.

  • lol he slached the dudes balls

  • highly douptfull

  • Kuntao??????

  • Why dont they realy stab him

  • Cos then he dies.

  • ^^

    well put lol\

  • u baka...if u really stab ppl, ppl will die u lol lol lol lol lol...dun u hav a brai 2 think of that lol lol lol lol u lol lol lol lol luuuuuuul

  • there training knives there fake

  • he never said they were real.

  • no shit, they wouldnt be training knives if they were sharp.

  • meh 9/10 ur gona get cut the fuck up if u try this.

  • Not if you have trained very much. Not if you have a knife! :)

  • Just wonderfull

  • Such skillz. This should be featured because its so random and nerdy.

Wait, let met say this in nerd speech: NINja Skillz FTW. You guys are so 1337. Do you want to be in my DDR CLUB?>

  • what in h*** is this

  • read the description

  • I believe all styles have there ups and downs... but from wha tI have learned.

I wouldn't trust anyone else to teach me about knife fighting accept silat practiconers and filipino escrima teachers.

the rest have not the experience or the time

these people have. I would go the home land to learn since that were its roots came from.

Paul vanka also is a good teacher.

  • what is the name of the song PLSSSSSSSSSSSS??

  • The long haired dude is always the one that has to lose! poor dude.

  • Pak ..saya dari indonesia ..apakah cabang silat suffian di indonesia..karena saya tertarik mempelajarinya

  • Ok a few comments here, This Inst has good angular deflection skills and a fairly sound theory. However more foot movement is essential and don't forget a knife fighter will punch with his other hand these techniques are not well defined to handle a sudden finger jab to the eyes his opposite free hand while deflecting the knife in this manner. In the Inst defence Im sure he could adapt to this possibility if it arose, Im just saying with the tech as they are alot of areas are left very open. JMO

  • Most people make comments arbitrarily here based on sheer opinion, and very lil exp to back it.My opinion is based on over 20 yrs as an Inst in Filipino based Weapon Arts and 38 yrs Combat Jujutsu, 10 yrs Mil service including 6 difft combat tours. Law Enf street, Night club security personal Protection exp and now I teach intlly and am a Private mil Contractor. I have been cut on several occasions as well as firearm situations and am still here so must have done something right. Anyway JMO

  • You must be an experienced blade player. However Tim, (this is my personal opinion), I don't think that Maul shows all the tactics in the videos. The best way to learn silat is through sweat and blood, the same way the military does. Not through DVD whatsoever. I'm very sure that showing all the tactics here will make things complicated to understand. How's your 1st training in FMA? I'm sure it was hard for you to understand the concept until you've been trained with it for 20 years.

  • you seriously have no experance in martial if you say that a bat is so unbalanced so it is you yourself that has no experance

  • A bat's balance point is at the head which limits its range of effectiveness despite its respective length. One should be respectful of each weapon and style as it doesn't take much to defeat someone; however, on the danger scale, a bat ranks pretty low compared to other weapons. But, whatever works for you. Two tips which you could benefit from: one should also know whom they speak to before making blind, senseless accusations; and never belittle the value of learning to spell.

  • sorry next time i will understand the meaning of being a true master like yourself before i speak

  • castration............

  • One wouldn't even necessarily need a weapon to defeat these guys, but it would be pretty much impossible without some serious experience if not training. Also, because a bat is not designed to be a weapon, inspite of how common it is and potentially useful it can be as one, it's one of the easiest to defend against.

  • Well, based on real world experience, I seriously doubt it. I would bet on either of these two gentlemen, and give odds to anyone placing money on the untrained, poor, going to be stomped badly, dude with a baseball bat or pipe.

  • he really..kicked his nuts... =(((

  • Aku mahu belajar Silat.

siapa yg boleh mengajar silat Call or sms no aku 0173800239-Syam.Ini Btol2 bukn main2

  • kuda89 ko minat silat apa, kala nak belajar silat gayong Malaysia telefon pejabat gayong tanya gelanggang yang berdekatan. tel:03-26918725 Address:25TB Block C,Bangunan PKNS Jalan Tun Razak

  • good stuff. it's too fast though and would take ages to learn.

  • actually it can be learned rather quickly because of the systems emphasis on angles of attack and response. Once you've learned to perceive and redirect without having to think about it it sorta opens up from there.

  • 527659, if you strike the attacker's eyes, if he can't see, he can't fight. It's an old saying but very true. Some of the most effective techniques are also the most simple. Sure he'll still have a lot of adrenaline and rage, but anger is one of the dumbest emotions to rely on in a fight and if you strike his vital points: eyes, throat, artery etc... you'd be surprised how easily you can manipulate the biggest and angriest of people and finish them off.

  • Salamon, if you're unarmed and the person attacks you with any sort of edged/blunt weapon, legally speaking...you can do whatever it takes to defend yourself. If that means the attacker dies, so be it. Of course there are non-lethal methods, but just remember that someone is trying to kill you and if he's good with a blade, you could be finished in less than 10 seconds regardless of your skill level. So I wouldn't just think of only using non-lethal force. Afterall, it's about survival.

  • Every single movement in that video would work and would be devastatingly effective.

I liked the unarmed knife defense, the speed and technique was impressive.

I enjoyed watching it but all deadly weapon orientated arts make me think...

End of the day, you dont want your attacker dead, guts lying on the floor and his throat cut. You just want him to stop attacking you.

Still doesnt stop it from being an intense martial art, just one you couldnt use in my country.

With the Knife crime in the uk

  • Hi salamon, actually i disagree. If u stabbed an violent guy with a knife, wouldn't he keep coming at u, no matter how many flesh wounds you gave him, to get you back? If he has a knife, then it's self defense to kill him to stop him. Isn't it. But this Vid was great, has lots of moves and is clear.

  • Actually if you stab/slash him you can sever a tendon, muscle or artery which would both slow him down and eventually kill him.

  • I liked it too.

  • @salamon Well said. But its always good to know just in case it comes to that. Sometimes the guy will keep atttacking you matter what and you have to resort that far. But if your trained well enough, you should be able to control yourself as well from killing the opponent.

  • How do you know it doesn't work? are you one of those know it alls who don't really know much but likes to pretend anyway?

  • Coldwatch, I see that after a year, nothing's changed. You still bicker, you still mock the person's age or his lack of videos. Buddy, you haven't posted your age or videos either, so why continue this crusade of yours? It's so pointless.

Anyways, the one thing I haven't seen much on YT with knife defense is countering the snap attack. It's great that they show counters to different angles of delivery in slow motion and through drills, but showing counters to real quick snaps is the most vital.

  • true, the fact in a snap attack is, he`s gonna be out there for a very short of time, so it`s merely impossible for you to grab him, you gotta see it coming and then when he retracts his knife faint and poke or slash somewhere else. I guess, I`m fairly new to knife sparring and blade mechanics, but I think it`s the best to do.......

  • Smooth!

  • totalyprimeguitarist..u never learn..i can smash ur guitar into ur head..come in malaysia see me!! i want u know i don;t feel the fear!!

  • yo, ASSASSIN CREED!!!

  • The best seminar to date yesterday, 12th April 2008 with Maul. Exceptional standard and tuition. I am honoured to be training under such an expert and more so for hosting his UK seminars.

Attend his seminars, you will not be disappointed!

    Alun Williams

    Total Body Defence

  • Thank u Sensei Alun - its a priviledge working with Goshinkwai TBD. Its always an honor to recieve a feedback from you. Thank You.

  • ooow very awesome...tnx...

  • Granted its a very good drill and has its use.

However, if your opponent has more intent to kill you. You would have a different response. The obvious intention is for the drill.

  • Maul is a master!

  • Budoh lagu hiphopnya.. but the art is great. aku respect urg martial art.

  • Great.

  • I wonder how a silat guy would do against a pekiti tersia kali guy

their systems seem pretty neck and neck as far as edged weapon combat is concerned.

  • If you Wikipedia pekiti tirsia, Conrado B.Tortal was originally from Panay, the island where the Datus from Borneo who taught kali and agriculture to the Philippines settled. I think both arts are linked somehow, but has evolved into its own through time.

  • Silat is a Malaysian art....Kali, the Filipino Martial Art comes from the Malaysian word 'Kalis'....it means to scrape.....I suspect quite a lot of cross-influences have occured between Silat and the FMA's over the centuries.....it's possible that the FMA's migrated from Malaysia originally.

  • sgtmac46, we are discussing in the similarity of movements and principles, between Pekiti Tirsia and this silat, NOT generalizing all kali and silat art. As seen in youtube Malaysian silat are more similar to karate influenced and rigid, Indonesian arts are more animalistic and flowing. I know it depends on the region and style. Silat is NOT a malaysian art, its a MALAY art, practiced by malays in Indonesia, Malaysia, Filipines, Brunei and South Thailand.

  • lol why does that guy always go for the balls

  • It is funny, but the crotch is where the femoral artery is, and that's serious business. You can easily bleed to death.

  • Those look more like barongs than machetes.

  • arent barongs a type of machete??

  • lupet! very nice!

  • Very nast, fast, clean technique, but I am noticing some of telegraphing on the part of the defender (short hair)with the knife defenses.

  • could a machete slice some one in half at the waist?

  • It couldn't actually cut them in half (as in removing the top part of the body completely) but it can easily disembowel someone.

  • ooh , i heard that if the strongest sword handler or strongest man could like chop someone is half with one

  • To chop someone in half with one strike you would need a much longer weapon for one, and you would also need it to be curved if it was a one-handed blade. An old claymore or European medieval broadsword could do it even though they are straight, but yes the strength it would take would be insane. One strong enough could probably never do it in a fight because of the time it would take to generate enough speed, and that's only if an individual allowed them the necessary distance.

  • You can cut a man in half with a very long and sharp machete.

  • The human body is surprisingly resilient and the density of it acts as something of a cushion dissipating the power of a single strike. Aside from the flesh and muscle you still have the bones, sinews, and fat to hack through. A very sharp machete of even just decent length and weight could get through, but it would take at least 3 strikes. An expert with a katana wouldn't have much difficulty, but machetes/barongs are constructed very differently and that would be the deciding factor.

  • Kid, yr 20, u dont have yr own videos and from the comments from yr channel. U dont even know what yr talking about. Troll!

  • To bad that guy wasnt on that 9 11 flight.

  • Meaning.....?

  • lol 2:28

  • Hey, let me know what you think of my machete tricks video. Search for "Machete Tricks". It's not a combat oriented video but some of my tricks are very technical.

  • dude.. you got a point, getting in fights does teach alot. but so does formal training. a combo of both, and you will be a great fighter.

:) ive never been in a full fight, but i do have some training, so i get to learn what does and doesnt work for me in a real fight.training does also increase fitness and endurance. thats always helpful.

  • Well, I have been in a real fight, and I gotta say that brute conditioning was about half of it. The rest was a bunch of stuff, including knowing how to throw a punch that doesn't hurt your hand and how to not trip yourself up with your footwork.

I think this is a demonstration of pre-built counters. It's true that it wasn't a real knife fight, but I don't think that any effort was made to decide which attacks were going to be done. They just went at it and let their training do the rest.

  • get ready LKD is coming

  • Check out my Machete video... I can do many tricks... I have no training either. Search:

  • Salaam Alaikum, this is silat... its training, if untrained there is no defense against a trained knife fighter, and even after years of training you have only one chance if that, you may die if its your destiny, but we train daily to be prepared, not to play but to kill... when its life against life... last resort.. there is no defense without God Almighty being with you

so we train to purify the heart with His rememberance

  • boooooo

  • like that wil ever work a guy that knows how to use a knife wil stay at distance and cut youre fingers and hands first

  • if he is at distance with a small knife....how the fuck do u expect him to cut ur fuckin fingers..................fuckin idiot

  • moron i mean by distance is using his maximum range not putting his feet between youre legs first so you can take away his knife

  • If you were to face a "real" opponent while standing in one spot like your doing now while you are fighting either direct, defensive or counter attacks, a slightly chances you will be injured.I'm not saying your not doing it all wrong.. I think you are a very talented and a smart fighter. If you move back with him as you move diagonally (such as aikido movements) you will be a lot safer and have more advantage. But to me, I think that's a wonderful practice you guys are doing. keep it up! =)

  • Finally someone can give their opinions without being a Douche Bag about it.

  • philippines are the masters of the knife, in fast is his main martial art.

  • this is great

  • I this in Panhandle park in San Francisco??

  • noice one brovah

  • Nice kali moves.

  • kali?? i tot it is SILAT.. clearly stated there bro.. :) give the credit to silat please.. as it is silat moves..

  • No worries mate, I consider the names kali and silat to be interchangable or one and the same just regional/tribal differences. Kali/Silat are Malay arts, just want to clarify that when I say Malay I mean Malay peoples of southeast asia..not Malaysia, influenced by migration, trade and colonization.

    peace.

  • Glad you realize the big picture of the history of the region. But you should have used the word silat cos the original Silat is much older. Kali came much later probably influenced by the intro of Hinduism. Kali is the goddess of war. Proof that silat is older? The key is the keris like the Aboriginal boomerang, a very ancient weapon, even once used by primitive tribes that got "civilized" by a lost advanced race.

  • flying, the kalis is what the phils. calls the keris blade as introduced by the ten datus from borneo. we dont recognize kali the god of hindus in conjunction with the art.

  • fx, i agree bro

  • in the first part, if the guy wasn't holding the knife like an idiot, he could've gotten teh guy
