salta la ficha que sos colombiano, o le erro? lo digo por el gusto musical que tienen, junto a los argentinos hacen la más linda música en español lejos
This is just plain lovely : ) I wish there were a video of them doing the original lively, original version, too. Want to show both to my son, a trumpet player with lots of potential : ) This is a jazzy soulful version to be sure! Thanks for sharing. If you know of a video of them playing the original version let me know...so far all have been them "not" playing to the taped version (like on the beach where Herb is not even faking it well!). Thanks so much for sharing this.
I love this song. My dad had this album when I was a kid. I used to listen to it all the time. He was a jazz musician and introduced his children to jazz at a very young age. A good life lesson. Herb is awesome. Thanks for posting.
Dear Big Joe, Can you give him a Big Kiss for me. No, seriously. I love hi Music as child in Belize. I'm 40 an LOVE Rise, Route 101 and A taste of Honey. Wow ! Thank you. Don't forget to Kiss him, Really. Tell him he AMAZING ! Genius, and tks for The Carpenter. Love, Teri
You're right i have met him personally and had lunch with him at his home in Lake Arrowhead, I was a n Electrical contractor working for him and he made me feel like his friend, what a treat, would love for him to meet my son he's learning Trumpet... He love's Herb :)
Herb has style and class. Branford has that plus incredible technique, he can float all over the instrument with a firm foundation in the practice room, scales and arpeggios.
Herb Alpert is a true National Treasure, the man can play anything, anywhere, and to any audience.... Perhaps the real reason for his perennial popularity is his highly refined sense of class, the man has a finely tuned ear not just for melody, but for rhythms, and for talent. He ALWAYS surrounds himself with a fine stable of great musicians. God Bless Him and his lovely and gracious wife, Ms. Lani Alpert Hall, another incredible talent....
I totally agree... I was fortunate enough to be invited to his home in Lake Arrowhead as a contractor to to work for him in his lake front home. after meeting he showed me his art room and and invited us to have lunch with him (pasta Primavera) I would have worked for free after that! great memory! National Treasure for sure!!
This too cool music reminds me of when I was about eight. My parents would let us play it over and over and we'd never tire of it. It's still fantastic today.
Me too! Its timeless music, and herb is an amazing host as well, Im a contractor and worked for him, and BTW he's a very good artist as well (painting) he gave me tour of his home and got to see his art room! What an amazing and memorable afternoon!
I picked up 'Midnight Sun' ages ago, and it remains one of my favorites to this day, and I'm amazed that this album wasn't more popular. I've longed to find more music like this: late night jazz with strings, where the strings don't sound like elevator syrup. The orchestral parts of this album are just amazing (especially on the last track of the album, 'Smile'... what a remarkable closing...)
If anyone knows, I'd love to find more music like this album.
Herb Al-"Pert" was always cutting edge, even when he first came out in the 60's,both he and Sergio Mendes introduced us mainsteam types to the wonders of Latin Jazz.Part of his greatness lies in the "approachibility" and familiarity of his music; I don't know how else to say this! :=)
Lovely rendition. I love the Whipped Cream version but this one is so great. He made this song his own and turned it into a classic. All the other renditions simply pale in comparison to Herb's, even the Beatles'.
I'm in love with the man's playing, he's fantastic. Call me crazy, but to me he's right up there with Miles.
In 1992, Herb released the Midnight Sun album that contained this arrangement of A Taste Of Honey. The rest of the disc pretty much follows the same format as this song - very sultry, cool jazz that sounds as if Creed Taylor & Rudy Van Gelder were producing & engineering. If anyone thinks that all Herb did was the TJB stuff, Rise & Diamonds should check out the Midnight Sun album (I wore out my cassette and have two copies of the CD!)
Herb Alpert: awesome as always, thanks a lot for share this beautiful "Live concert"

No, it's Branford. Wynton is a trumpet player - and an excellent one. Like Herb, but Wynton also plays classical.

Woody Herman's Herd also did a very good rendition; with Bill Chase's stratospheric trumpet capping it off.

Is that Branford Marsalis playing soprano sax?
JesseTinsley 3 years ago 2
Yes...
boricuajazzz8 3 years ago
@boricuajazzz8 Thought so! This is fabulous. I can even get the notes from Herb's fingering. Haven't played the trumpet in 30 years.
Baritone45 1 year ago
Yes. Branford Marsalis Quartet plus another pianist.
That version of A Taste of Honey was very good, very different...but the string section is a pure garbage. Would be perfect without the orchestra.

This is really good. Herb sounds really great on this, one of the best I've ever heard him live and in a jazz setting.
