  • Oh hello! Have you thought about the ebook Public Speaking for Frankenstein ? I got some useful tricks from it and was able delivered a public speech with no trouble.

  • @akpadupakore I never heard of it, but I have no problem public speaking. These few little tips here will probably help as much as any other book (if you practice them and take them to heart),

  • Awwww thank you definitely subscribed!

  • @MasaRocksYou Welcome!

  • Robert, I've often helped others get over stage fright by telling them to breathe and focus on that, but I never realized before your video how much the nerves can be used to an advantage instead of a disadvantage. Thanks for all that you share.

    (Chase)

  • @Chase4everChase You're welcome Chase. Hopefully you'll be able to now help others learn to harness that wonderful energy to help them even more.

  • To get over my stage fright, I've decided that I'll audition for every solo in my choir and every singing group at my school this year. Tomorrow, I'm auditioning for my school's aca pella group. I'm scared out of my mind.

  • @MagicByStarlight Like anything, it gets easier the more often you do it.

  • I always get butterflies in my stomach and I never want to lose that because it keeps things exciting. Thank you so much for this!

  • As always, Thank you very much Rob.

  • @reyreaper23 you're welcome. I hope you can come up with your own regimen.

  • I love your videos. They cover every aspect of being a singer. Thankyou

  • @DinaTK96 I'm glad you're enjoying them. If there's something I don't cover, you can also always ask the question. Have a great weekend.

  • @AllOfTheGames It's the key, for sure

  • So true!!! I love performing and playing the piano!!!

    Thanks for posting this video!

  • @themusiciansdiary how long you been playing?

  • @robertantonnyc 15 years! =)

  • @themusiciansdiary you must be pretty good then.

  • @robertantonnyc LOL I try!!! I got my Bachelors in Piano Performance last year. Now I'm working to get more professional performances. Lots of hard work, but great work too!

  • @themusiciansdiary I'm sure it is.

  • thanks heaps :)

  • Oh thanks, but i have a question.Does it help me more overcome this by singing mostly when others are at home?evening or so...(i maybe not be so free to sing in a crazy way or try sth new)but does it help me get used to that anxiety and lose it??or the opposite?

  • @ArtistWoOoOo get used to it and use it. You should be able to produce in front of 100,000 ppl just like in front of 2 ppl.

  • @robertantonnyc ok thx!hope it doesn't matter that i dont see them but i feel they hear me?will this make it worse?

  • @ArtistWoOoOo I'm not sure what you mean.

  • @robertantonnyc i mean,2 months now,i use to sing in my room of course where i have my pc now,and have the instrumentals.I do feel a bit unfree to sing sth new etc... but not anxious.Of course since i don't see them, but i do feel them hear me and try not to make mistakes.I mean is it "dangerous" to get to feel this unfreely feeling without seeing anyone.Could this happen? Is it better to sing and feel really alone?or is it ok to sing and feel them without seeing thwm?

  • @ArtistWoOoOo well I never understand why ppl feel nervous singing alone by themselves in a room (even with the camera on). You have to conquer that before you can conquer singing in front of ppl. Do you feel nervous when you sing alone with no camera on?

  • @robertantonnyc another question except from the previous(you you'll see it!)Can it help me more if i get speakers to sing?cuz i dont have some now and i only use a small mic and of course it doesn't feel real so much. And i feel that others listen only my voice and the mistakes on it.Sorry for my many questions hope this is the last :) GBU

  • @ArtistWoOoOo I don't mind the questions at all. I welcome them. Yes, you should have speakers so you can hear yourself, but that isn't why you feel nervous. If you love to sing you shouldn't worry so much about ppl judging you. People even just the best out there. some like them and some don't.

Singing is about expressing yourself. yes? If everybody loves what you're doing then you're probably doing something wrong or they are lying to you.

  • @robertantonnyc ok ur right thx!!And you rock also!

  • @ArtistWoOoOo Thx. You too. don't forget it. ; -- )

  • @robertantonnyc Ok God Bless :)

  • lol at background music

  • Ive been singing the national anthem at my school. i get nervous. you can hear it in my voice. when i sing, i try to focus on my voice. but i get nervous about everyone listening. so should i just try to get lost in the song ?

  • @Beckyzzzblog If that helps. Why not create a story around it and think about the story?

  • hey! btw, i have a main role in a pantomine, im very very nervous!

  • @paigec28 a pantomime. sounds interesting. did you see Retarded Policeman and the mime episode? That's what it brings to mind

  • @robertantonnyc yeaa, the pantomime is jack and the beanstalk, i am he part of jack. I love your vids! what can i do to get rid of it?:(

  • @paigec28 well, there's always a little nervousness before a performance. You can try some of the tips from my Performance Anxiety video and see if that helps some.

Dont worry; I still get a little nervous before I go on too.

  • thanks man that really helps

  • Exellent thank you ;)

  • @dougproductions12 Thanks. You're welcome. Got something coming up?

  • Yeah made the regional finals of open mic, only thing that will stop me now is my nerves lol

  • @dougproductions12 No, they won't. Nothing can stop you! Yay Congrats!

  • Great advice!! :D

  • @Hodanne nice synopsis there. Take it to heart.

  • I have to go up on stage and answer questions in front of an audience in a few days. Whenever I go up on stage, no matter what i'm doing, performing music, acting in a play etc. I always feel sick. Just recently I was performing songs with my school's band in front of an audience and I felt like throwing up the entire time. I didn't get sick, though. I'm worried that I'll feel the same way, or maybe worse once I have to answer questions. How can I calm myself down?

  • @ScreamoBaptism watch this video again and read Hodanne's synopsis over and over and over til something sticks with you. What's your fear? Overcome it; you'll always have to speak in front of ppl even if you're not a performer.

  • practice or smoke a joint :)

  • The best solution to stage fright is to have a few good stiff drinks.after the drinks youll be feeling so good youll be like" Fuck Diz Shit" and youll be so great.

  • @dajudgementday you may THINK you're great, but you'll probably BE terrible. lol.

  • i'm going to sing in at an Open Mic night. My teacher wants me to get more experience. I'm nervous & I don't know why. People always compliment my voice but IDK....I always feel sooo gittery & my heart races & I start feeling light headed:/

  • sounds more like excitement to me especially the way you described it. I'm sure you'll be fine. Pick something you like a lot and have done before. Generally people are very supportive at open mikes. Make sure to network and keep in touch.

  • I Got a perfomence to do in school, but i dont know because its the fear of people that know be boooing me off stage

  • i don't think anyone would boo you off stage cause they know that their turn may come up soon. lol. They probably be too scared to say anything at all. : 0 )

  • heyyy thanks for the advice tomorrow is my first concert in my school my teacher wants me to play guitar and sing in fron of my whole 10 th grade class and i amm like nervous i think ill hyperventilate!

  • Don't think like that. Just have fun and do your best.

  • Good job. Good Video and...you're cute.

  • ; - ) mazel tov

  • thankyou so much for this video :)

I have to preform tomorrow in front of a couple hundred people..and its the first real preformance ive done. im playing a song i wrote on piano for people and all day today ive been stressed about it. but this video reeeeally helped me. so thanks alot for your help :)

  • Good Luck. Let me know how it goes. I'm sure you're gonna knock em dead. ; - )

  • Hi Robert,

You can get over any anxiety in less than 4 hours with NLP!! It really works and can change your life for ever :-)

Do some research on what NLP is and see what it can do for you.

  • I seriously doubt we could live without some amount of anxiety in our lives.

  • You're right, some is normal. Your tips are awesome by the way and what you say is true.

But some people their performance anxiety (like mine was) is on a whole other level than this anxiety you are explaining in this video.

  • Yes, paralyzing fear is not productive for anything.

Glad you enjoy the videos. Happy Holidays.

  • Robert, you have some great advice. You seem like a relaxed and calm person- very together. thanks.

  • OMG I am still super nervous but i will take your advice THANX!

  • I have suffered from this for along time and I have never heard such good advice.Thank you and I know this will hepl me alot.

  • you're very welcome

  • thanks dude, this is something i suffer from and feel i often can't control it even if I focus on what I want to communicate. But today it was worse because I was there TOO early. It made things too anticipated. But I like your vid, it was helpful and it's about keeping a good state of mind. Cheers :) ps. 5/5

  • Maybe if you take a long a good book or some interesting magazine articles; you'll relax a bit. Glad I could help. Let me know if it works a little better next time.

  • Thats Robert This is good help. Your pointers are rock on, now it's on me.

    Laif

  • good luck

  • Thanks for the info. Very helpful.

  • At your service. My pleasure.

  • thanks alot man (Y)

  • man u realy helped pretty soon 14days actually :S i have a performence infront of 300 people and im realy scared please is there any advice you have thats not on the video? thanks

  • relax

  • hey man, i got a performance coming up at an artsbar pretty soon, LOTS of people i know are gunna be there and i was feeling a little apehensive about performing :P

thank you for your help you've laid a calming hand on my shoulder... i dont think ill be nervous :)

    thank you (Y)

  • You're welcome. Glad I could help. You may be a little nervous, or antsy, but don't let it hold you back. Turn that into good energy.

  • Yeah, i think i'll be okay, i have performed before infront of friends and family and its not my doubt in my ability, just i've never played to an audience this big and i guess i was just afraid of what everyone will think, but theg again there will always be someone that wont like it. I'll just keep practising and do my best as if the audience wasn't there.

    Thanks

  • well that's one route, but I LIVE for the audience. I want to relate and share and enjoy right along with them; so I guess that's another way to look at it. Best of Luck. Let me know how it comes out.

  • i won't try to blank out the audience as such, but try to perform as if they have no influence on the performance, if that makes sense. JUst relax a little and enjoy it.

ill let you know how it goes :) (Y)

  • Hey man, the day before yesterday i did that gig at my local artsbar and did a couple of songs on guitar and vocals for about 150 - 200 people along with a few other artists.

It went really well! I mean i was a little fazed out after the performance but i watched it back and it was fine :), and the crowd were real nice and people after said to me it was good so yno im really really happy with how the thing as a whole turned out (Y)

i'll be lining up a few more gigs soon :)

    thank you :D

  • Good for you. Congrats! The more you do it, the easier it becomes.

  • I feel adrenaline not really butterflies.

  • it's nervous energy. Use it for good.

  • yea its weird prior to goin on stage I feel a bit nervous. but as soon I get the mike infront of me it dissapears. I'm gonna audition for a talent show. thnx 4 the tips:). You know what helps too? pretend like your somebody else, like maybe your Idol. it makes you feel better.

  • i gotta dance in big audience tonight in front of big audience AHHH

  • how'd it go?

  • it went good we werent shame and did great

  • good for you.

  • I just had the worst experience of my life two days ago.

It was an audition for my school's music honor society, and i can't imagine myself doing it any worse.

I stopped in the middle of the song more than five times, and played wrong notes when i didnt stop.

The worst part was that I was worked on it soo hard, stayed after to work on it with my band director the whole week.

I can't get past that one performance and I have another audition in a couple weeks. What do I do?

  • Try some of the techniques in the video and see if they help. One big thing you can do is forget about your mess-ups in the last one and think ahead. History doesn't always repeat itself.

    Hope that helps.

  • i don't know how effective "techniques" are going to be when you're freaking out...but the more you audition and perform the easier it will get. audition for everything you possibly can as often as you can whether or not you think you have a chance. it will help in the end.

  • Actually the "technique" of doing whatever you have to do for the audition until you feel like you could do it in your sleep will keep you from freaking out. People generally freak out because it's the unknown and they're not sure they'll be able to do what the need to do to impress the auditioners.

    Preparation is the key there.

  • Thanks man! I made a better speech than usual last week, and I was much calmer!

  • I'm glad to be of help man. Keep striving.

  • im so nervous, i have to sing a hannh mantana song for my clss and im a boy!

  • now that's pretty funny. which one?

  • Thanks so much- Great reminders.

Being in the moment with the performance and doing our best.

    Thanks again

  • You're very welcome. Stop by my website. robertanton(dot)com.

  • Thanks for the help man. I play guitar but I am really an actor and I enjoyed your info and will apply it to my acting. ALL THE BEST.

  • all the best to you also.

  • thanks for the tip:P i have an audition for singing and playing guitar. i'm so nervous i've been practicing like crazy. your video really help, thanks for posting.

  • Interesting.....Cheers!

  • How about self help books ect? NLP?

  • self-help books are good for some. I often read books about how other people overcame obstacles and apply the things that I can do to my dealings with those types of problems.

Have you read, "You've Got To Read This Book"?

I'm still reading recommendations given in that book to other books and authors.

  • thanks!

  • Absolutely right! I completely agree!

  • you're incredible! Thanks for the help, i have a broadway audition coming up soon and i will get so nervous, but this helped me! :D

  • Thanks! Great Job!

  • What do you think about eating and drinking before performing, I know the natural human body can be ruthless on stage a burp etc can stop you completely.

  • You have to do what's right for your body; everyone is different. I can eat chocolate, or a big meal, before I go on stage. It's never been a problem, but I've worked with people who can only have water during a performance. You gotta figure it out from trial and error, unfortunately.

  • I will keep that in mind, maybe I'm one of those few unlucky people who can't eat anything an hour before singing.

  • This advice rings true on more levels than just singing and performing, words to live by friend.

  • i have that same shirt ^^

  • I wish I could be you. :(

  • when it can be so much fun being you? I think not. You're the best you that I've ever seen.

  • i hate everything. But you man, you're alright.

  • Thanks man. Its true what you said. People aren't going to judge you by how you look, only by what you do. Success is preparation meeting opportunity.

  • it is very mean to point out tht he has a big nose. no one has a big or small anything it is normal for them

  • hehe, thanks.

  • dont worry i didnt even notice your nose being wrong but then a couple people talked about it...mine is big i think...i think watching all videos like this will calm you down thx

  • i have stage fright of singing can u give me some more advice besinds your video

  • start with the tips here and see if it helps. Everyone basically needs to find their own comfort zone/regimen that leads them into a more comfortable state of mind. good luck

  • YOU HAVE A BIG NOSE!

  • and the winner is. The loser here.

  • Sick come back. Nice video. It really is helpful .

  • What an immature and dumb thing to say!

I suppose you are perfect looking in every way are you?....I doubt it... lol

  • to angelmaloco for saying he had a big nose

    fuck you mother fucker

  • Thank God you didn't audition!

  • Lol! Mean..

  • I would have been behind the table at this point. Why didn you audition?

  • Don't fool yourself =)

And um, not into the entertainment industry, or singing for the matter.

  • Come on back when you have something to say.

  • because of performance anxiety of course. .. :P

  • rehearse them until they are second nature. Till you can sing them no matter what happens.

  • What about forgetting the words to the songs! lol

  • rehearse them until they are second nature.

  • hahah! omg thanks for da advice..
