I am a birth mother of adoption. I placed my child in a home for the sole reason that she would have the benefits and opportunities that I feel every child deserves...a mom AND A DAD. I know it it seems harsh, but it's about the kids, not about the couple (or should be) If I didn't have the chance to choose my daughter's parents for her, and it was left up to the agency...I would be outraged if she was placed in a gay couples arms. A single parent home, I would prefer more than that.

Hebert...First of all I am 50 years old and no longer posess the ability to have a child. Let's say I was a teenager and got pregnant and decided to give my child up for adoption. I would want to know that my child was being raised in a loving environment by people who care for her better than I could as a child myself. That "Confusion" you speak of could easily be sorted out by having a conversation with the child and explaining. Then again, I doubt it's going to cause harm to a child. Seeing two same sex parents kissing is not going to make the child gay. If they are gay, they will be born " that way". Being gay is not a lifestyle choice, it's there from birth. Whoopi asked if opening up the adoption process to single indviduals would allow for more children to be adopted. That is possible but more adoptions would take place if it didn't cost so much money. My wife and I have friends going through the adoption process. It costs a minimum of $10,000 no matter the institution. It's $8,500 cheaper to give birth to a kid with insurance co-pays.

Gays have equal rights when it comes to marriage. Straights can't marry someone of the same sex either and they both can marry someone of the opposite sex. All joking aside, government has no business getting involved in marriage anyway because it is a religious institution which violates the separation of church and state values. Government should tax all people equally, provide the same benefits equally, etc. Leave marriage up to the church.

Many of them have been in committed relationships longer than most of my straight, married friends. With divorce rates at 50% that means half the children in this country are being raised in dysfuntcional families where they are shuffled between mom and dad. civil rights for gays are great. Marriage is something defined that does not fit anything outside of its definition and restricts far more hetros than homosexuals. It is MEANT to be defined, definition creates exclusivity.
