is she stomping her foot on the ground because she was annoyed with the halter? is she just a little annoyed.. or very much? sorry i'm just guessing. i'm still learning about horses
The sad thing is horses are born to be free and they start being tamed at a very young age and discovere they are born into slavery. Those who think it's normal to enslave a horse are slaves themselves so they don't realize how wrong it is.
Some of the comments on this video are ridiculous. There is nothing wrong with this at all. Its not going to suffocate or cut the horse, and from the looks of it, it seems like the area the foal is in is pretty safe, I doubt he/she is going to get tangled up on something. He/she does not have rain rot as one comment implied. It look perfectly healthy, and the short rope dangling isn't long enough for it to step on and trip over. This looks like a great start to me.

"deb objects to wearing this rotten piece of tack" is the info you have put for this video. wow, you are on the money. you're right, that halter is crap. if you're starting a foal, get a soft foal halter, they are designed for that! and don't leave a rope hanging carelessly off it! also, your foal's skin looks patchy as, might be rainrot?
@zhivana Wow! Troll much? ;-) This big, healthy girl is wearing a handmade leather foal halter with an industry standard grab strap and that "patchy skin" is a much sought after marcel-wave coat pattern. I haven't updated this video in a awhile, but this little gal went on to win the breed association's In Hand (halter) National Championship in 2008!
@CurlyLindsay The only horses I have ever seen with the marcel-wave coat is Bashkir Curlies (they are quite cute, I might add), is she a Curly? I know what in-hand showing is, I show my Standardbred gelding in-hand. IMHO I have seen lots of foals in different foal halters, and none of them have reacted like that.. they accept the halter much more and don't seem to be too fussed. Maybe because it comes so close to her mouth it irritates her?
@zhivana If it wasn't a foal halter, it wouldn't fit her. And that's a catch rope, commonly used on foals that are still learning ground manners. And that's certainly not what rain rot looks like. Goodness at the harshness and ignorance.
@zhivana wow, ok no, the foals coat is like that probably because he was either outside in the rain, or he is a baskir curly, also the "rope" is called a catch strap, it is meant to be there so you can catch the foal eaisily, it is a foal halter, also the person is there with the foal FILMING so if they were careless would they be watching the foal? i think not.
@zhivana The foal's a bashkir curly. Their coat NATURALLY looks like this, NATURALLY curled hence their breed's name. Do your research before posting crap.
when di you put the halter on the baby (who is ADORABLE!!) cause I plan on putting a halter on my 2month old before hes a year I was wondering is it ok to put one on now, at 4months, weanling or what.
my guy had a halter on the first morning after he was born (in short intervals) It makes it so much easier for them and you when they think of it as a fact of life, not something that has never been there, and then all of a sudden somethings on my face! I had my little boy start lead training right away, in baby steps of course, but the smaller they are, the easier it is. haha i have to train a 2 year old belgian this spring whos never been halter broke! think how that would feel! LOL
note...i didnt read thru any of the comments so this is sheerly in response to the vid...
sooo freaking adorable! shes like no. this is lame. like. really. my dog did that when i first put his collar on him! aha. and a halter with a 1 foot lead is always how ive seen foals halter broke... and ive ridden at a few facilities.. anyways really cute!
that is a big o baby! we just put a halter on our one month colt. he doesent mind it.. (with our colts) if you dont put them on early they will think they are free later on.. and be very difficult.
It takes time and patients to put a halter on. It's an animal for fuck sake not a machine, it has instincts and thoughts and he has a natural way of reaction to things. She sees that halter differently then you do. Never force it on her, you never force a horse to do anything because most of the time, it's not needed.
look at my bag gelding its taken me 8 months to get him to where his it today do you know why?
because people like you fourse a young animal to do what you want, he was beaten up as a foal then locked in a shed as a 5 month old foal for 4 months, he is now 3 and only just getting over it i swear he has flash backs..
wen push comes to shove then yes you could get her in a confined space and get a rope round her neck and press her up against the wall and slip the rope on, then step away and tie her up for about an hour so that she can have a pull and a tug at the rope so that she knows she aint going anywhere, this way it will teach her to respect the pressure and teach her that no amount of pulling is going to make her get her own way. Poeple often do it the 'wrong' way which just leads to problems wen older
Horses have died because they've shattered their heads in their attempts to get loose when they were tied up like in your suggestion. In other words, not a good idea...
i totally agree with you its what i do to all my yearlings, knabbelover~ yes horses can get injured in some cases die but its usually from careless people who walk away, you'd have to be an idiot not to supervise the horse while its tied for the first time
hello listen to helenhorse she knows what shes on about the other people havent got a clue honestly. if you leave her to roam shes just going to get wilder you have to be the boss over horses if they think they can get over you they will and you wont be able to do anything and its ok to lasso her ive done it loads of times as long as you dont leave the slipnot tight for to long
that is way to hard for a horse especailly a young foal that is like someone trying to put a rope around your neck tighten it then pullling you so we could put something on you....bottom line it can cut, strangle and kill a horse
how is she bad tempered she is a 1 year old baby!! i know if i was a horse that was 1 years old i would be just like her! Im sure if u were a baby too u would b just like her!

how can you whip a foal ... how cruel!
i wouldn't even call you a person .. i would call you a baby animal abuser..
you wouldn't like it if you were a baby foal and this big, giant looking creature came and whipped you for no reason, would yaa ..
