@smotleyjr79 if the spring is working, you won't get any fuel through the valve. The vacuum from the carberators pulls on the diaphram, compressing the spring, letting fuel flow through the valve down into the engine.
where do I buy just the filters? I need new filters for my 1998 ninja 500. my old petcock fuel filters are all hard and have slits in them and I cant seem to find new ones?
@smotleyjr79 For a part that specific you'll have to go to a dealership or keep scanning Ebay and see if they come up. Alot of the shops that part out bikes might have the filters your looking for but just not list them since it's such a low volume item. Shoot them an E-mail and ask if the part is available.
@wolfpaw69 It depends on how old the engine is. If it's a newer build you might be able to get a kit from an independent shop (Ask around). If it's over 10 years old the shop might not be able to get the parts themselves and you'll either have to buy a used valve and salvage the parts or save your time and the hassle and just buy new and get your tiller up and running.
Ask around at outdoor equipment stores that sells chainsaws and lawnmowers. If they can't fix it they'll know who can.
@almcken It depends on the design of the manufacturer. This is the petcock from my ninja 500. Honda or Harley will definetly be different. Your best bet is to get a factory manual or take it to a dealership and ask a mechanic.
Yeah I know. That's the prices in this area, your area might be different. Otoh, this was a reputable shop that alot of people told me did the job right the first time and they don't screw people over.
I've learned to pay alittle extra for quality work that won't leave me walking home.
Thanks. Windows Movie maker has been crashing on me so I haven't had the chance to make a "part 2" yet.
Check the screws in your faceplate. The factory screws are only held in by 2 or 3 threads. Mine was leaking and when I tore it down i found out that the screw had stripped out of the aluminium casting.
Petcock rebuild kits can be bought through a dealership, ebay, or off of any motorsport related website. If you can change a lightbulb you can rebuild a petcock. Just take your time and think things through...
Typically a domesticated rooster, used for breeding hens in captivity for agricultural purposes... In the case of this video, It's also called a fuel shutoff switch...
what happens if the diaphragms in the petcock is bad and not working?

Where can I get a rebuild kit for a craftman tiller. Sears wants me to buy the whole Petcock valve ($27). All I need is the rubber valve inside.
