Some controversy indeed, let me sprinkle some incriminating evidence... apparently, Megaupload had knowledge of the infringing/pirated content on their site, and did nothing about it, this mirrors something very similar to an dispute with YouTube, yes, a lot of people upload infringing/pirated content on YouTube, but it's caught, and taken down promptly through the Content ID system, or from the copyright claims form.
