Like it or not this is also YES. And Rabin, for us "post 80's fans", is OUR Wakeman, Howe, Squire or Anderson (+ Bill, Tony and Alan).
I mean, old timers of the band should ease up a little bit with some remarks. No, we're not all idiots, and we like The Yes Album, Fragile and Close To The Edge as much as you, but at difference of some of you, we also like 90125, Big Generator and Talk for a very special reason: we were young and those were OUR times. Peace.
Yeesh. No wonder "Cinema' couldn't get a contract. Hey, don't shoot me. I'm a Trevor fan. This version though....it wouldn't have gotton on FM radio in 1983, I know that. I was very there.....
It is plain to see that Trevor Rabin was the architect of the Yes album 90125. The outakes from 90124 show just how much. Rabin propelled Yes to a higher level that was never achieved prior and never will again. The guy is pure musical genius.
@Truck111 Some of their 80's fans got to discover their earlier catalog, and love it as much as their works from that decade. I'm a YES FAN (we're all in this together) that could finally see the band live in the 80's (with this album) BUT had been listening to their music since I was probably - 7 months (in my mother's belly, a die hard fan) and was familiar with their material. Agreed, this is not their best song /album of their repertoire but it has a lot of quality and originality
That was more out of my dad's mouth than mine, but he's right; the notion that YES reached their pinnacle because of one guy AFTER their truly best material was released is assinine, plain and simple. It was a phenomenal song and superb album no doubt, and it "rebooted," so to speak, YES's career, but the guy is a bonehead, plain and simple for qualifying that.
@CopperKingKid I just about died laughing. Wait, you were serious? Oh dear. Dude, put the crack pipe down and listen to Close to the Edge if you want to hear musical genius.
I knew Trevor Rabin was the crux of 90124, but this really shows how it was his album. Sure Trevor Horn produced it into the massive hit, and Anderson may have tweaked the lyrics, but the basics of the song are all Rabin. He was a guy who really knew how to write for a long time - from the 70s & "Video Killed the Radio Star" all the way through today with award winning sound. I always respected him but this solo production is just amazing!
Wow, Yes really went through it and changed it. I think hearing the demo and teh final version shows what a solid unit Yes was. They put all their heads together and figured out exactly what to leave in and what to take out to make firt rate rate tunes. This is a good song put the chorus and prechorus is too cheesy. The final version is perfect.
Horn convinced Rabin to use the song, it was in a bin of demos that Rabin had laying around and Horn played it and immediately thought "this is a hit ", Rabin told him no that is just some demo stuff for another project but Horn insusted
Wild.. If there was a rock DJ out there like there used to be (With balls) That played this tonight he would end up the most famous DJ for the next 4 months
I love this & it is super freaky funky disco! Gotta remember again this is a demo..many artists write & play demos on a casio or yamaha keyboard with no other instruments, no mixing, production, EQ, etc...I think this is adorable..and amazing at the unbelievable transformation it shaped up to be in a full scale studio production with Trevor playing most of the instruments, massive, production by him & Trevor Horn.etc & Jon & the band also on vocals!
@htohkeyboards Yeah, I don't know what role Horn had in the writing as he's given credit, but I know Chris replaced the bridge in the song, and Jon tweaked the lyrics.

Given the vast difference in composition and the songwriting credits, pointing out that Trevor was a catalyst for 90125 is stating the obvious.

Interesting demo version of the song...Would be cool to hear 78violet (i.e. Aly & AJ Michalka) do a cover of this version...
