  • That very spot where you where filming in 1985, league cup final day my wheel fell off my bike there after being knocked over by a van avoiding CND protestors.

    It was bedlam. Strange memories.

  • I live on the airbase, Missouri Drive or as we affectionately call it Misery Drive because of all the miserable tossers who live on it. You know who you are, you and your bitch 5 doors away. To think all the airmen and soldiers stationed here who lost thier lives so we could live in a society with the likes of you. Oh the shame of it all.

  • the lane opposite went to howley, past the Towers Theatre Club at the far end,a handy short cut in those days..Remember gigging there a few times, last being on a show with karl Denver, top of the 'bill' and a young George fame and his blue flames.wot an ad . these days for Btitish gas !

    Happy Days ???

  • My dad Alan Wikberg worked there as a civilian for 18yrs in the 80's and 90's we had many great nites out and halloweens in the LIVE haunted house, my dad sadly passed away in 2003 at 69yrs but was always a lost soul without his great friends and colleagues at burtonwood!!!!!!

  • i remember an American bomber bursting a tyre on takeoff from Burtonwood and having to fly around liverpool to use all the fuel up in case it had caused damage to the aircraft. I remember standing outside our back door in Bootle watching it circling low for hours and later on all saying prayers in bed for the crew. They landed safely the next morning.Shirley bassey did her first professional engagement at the officers club. The site should have been preserved...it's our history!

  • Yep, went back down here last week to refilm 'E' site hangars, was very upset to see a pile of rubble.I'm sure lots of people who travel past and know the base, will be sad to see the last remaining structures associated with this WW2 icon, have all gone.Ah well, time to move on.

  • my dad worked here 1970s as mechanic and at night barman, he was also in the cowboy quick draw club.

loved playing in the jeeps as a child.

sad to say I was involved in part of the demolition, the gully pots encased in a few cubic metres of concrete caused a few stares of bewilderment

  • I remember this place from the early 80s when it was full of yanks and 'gas guzzlers', it was pretty glamorous!

  • My Dad served there for 6 months in 1957 berfore he shipped to Denham Studios AFB.

  • Thank you for posting this, my granfather served in WWII as a waist gunner aboard a B-17, based in Burtonwood. It's a shame so much is gone, but I believe the men of the "Mighty Eighth" would want England to carry on- doing the very thing that they fought for so many years ago.

  • They have just "Demolished" in the last 2 weeks the remaining 5 aircraft hangers at Burtonwood , 2 from A site and 3 from E site ...you cannot now tell it was a USAF base . and they intend to build a Prison on the site !! as you can imagine the residents prefer the old 1930s Hangars and miss the glamour that gave Burtonwood the nickname " Little America"
