  • lol "Its called the XL1 'cause its a 1 litre vehicle - the engine is 1 litre". Dudes!, get your facts straight. The L1 actually refers to the fuel consumption - meaning 1 litre per 100 kilometres (perhaps you remember the Lupo 3L... try and guess the fuel consumption on that).

This car actually has 2 sources of power: a 800cc/0.8 litre 2 cylinder diesel engine (48bhp) and a electronic motor (27bhp) giving a total of 75 bhp. Weighing 800kg (or approx 1600 pounds).

  • Called "Gull Wing Doors"

  • I think they are called Gullwing doors

  • i can only imagine how much the replacements parts or anything for that matter would cost

  • @blade83336 Actually, most of the parts that are used in this car come from the platforms of other vw models: The motor for example is a split-in-half four cylinder engine that is used in many Volkswagen, Skoda, Seat and Audi models.

  • Damn.

  • The the front end of the car is AWESOME but the rear end is FUCKING UGLY !!!

  • I think it would be a good idea if they leave the wheel covers for aerodynamics but make them transparent for looks.

  • It's a ripoff look of the late 90s GM EV, you know, the all electric car GM was forced to kill by government and big oil before they bought out Hummer and mass produced those monsters while the government gave out tax breaks of up to 100k for buying one. If this car isn't available for less than 30k once or if it's mass produced than it means little for us, being it's a VW and they list for higher than the average American brand I doubt this car will be less than 50k anytime soon.

  • The covered rear wheel most probably is for aerodynamics which helps, of course, on fuel efficiency

  • Why do I have a feeling these will be at Hot August Nights in 30 years...?

  • the future is here!

  • Look at those skinny wheels (to reduce rolling resistance). I wonder how well it stops.

  • any news on the price?

  • @acewings221

heard it will cost about 45.000, in two years in the store

  • Arab oil company would love to see a car that make 500 MPG at this moment

oil extraction at maximum, and the demand for oil in Asia increasing .

  • @falcon02012 This is the future so they can see oil needs dropping after a soon to be reached limit of need in asia. China especially is moving swiftly to become as energy independent as possible with funding for renewable energy and many clean energy vehicle ventures

I am sure the oil companies can see the writing on the wall or they are doomed to crash when the demand starts to slow in as little as 10 years

Thats when these cars get under $20k and china I bet slows down non-renewable needs

  • These are the Butterfly doors. Gullwings open straight upwards, no angle.

  • the 1L is actually not because it's a 1liter engine. it comes from the early models being able to drive 100km on 1 liter of fuel. I think this one only goes about 90km/L but the name sticks.

and they are called butterfly doors

  • The wheel covers help with aerodynamics, reduces drag.

  • @Redneckwolf Ahhh. Makes sense.

  • Gull wing doors.

Really hope you can take off those stupid rear wheel covers. Then I'd be all about a car like this.

  • @EscpdFrmPsykward you can think of the covers as mirrors and the stupid you see in them is yours..

  • @DanFrederiksen That's a little harsh, don't you think?

  • @EscpdFrmPsykward well you could say that but did you deserve it by what you did?

  • @EscpdFrmPsykward understand that they are there to improve the aerodynamics of the car such that it glides through the air much easier so it can go faster and use less energy so it can use a smaller motor and fewer batteries and cost less. love the wheel covers. grow from the experience

  • @DanFrederiksen You could have just said that instead of being a dick for no reason. I have a problem with a part of the aesthetics of the car, you explain that the wheel covers have an actual practical purpose, everyone leaves happy. But you decided to take the low road. You feel good about yourself?

  • @EscpdFrmPsykward what word did you use to describe the wheel covers...

you erred, my man. learn from it. if you try to blame me for your mistake you only sink deeper. I will not answer you again unless you learn

  • @DanFrederiksen I insulted an inanimate object, you insulted a person. Don't try to draw any false equivalence because you are now too embarrassed to admit you were being a dickhead to a complete stranger for no good reason. I think it is you who still has alot to learn. Now go fuck yourself.

  • gullwing doors

  • @grendelcatt Thanks!
