The Who recorded their original in 1965 so any cover version will probably be better BUT my favorite cover version was done by a local Edmonton,Alberta,Canada garage band called the King Beezz recorded in 1966. It can be found on CDs. I bought the original vinyl 45 when it was issued. The flipside was a good cover version of the Kinks' "I Gotta Move". I own the CD by the King Beezz..

In fact, I do play guitar, and I wouldn't say I suck, though I'm not exactly HOT either. Also, there is much less distortion in Townshend's guitar solo than in the Scorps. The Who's distortion is pleasant over driven tubes, whereas I find the Scorps high gain guitar less pleasant. So, anyway, no, I don't favor Townshends more sloppy solo because I suck at guitar. Now, maybe I do play mainly 60's style rock because I can't play better, though if I could play better I'd probably play jazz .

If you like powerful covers, you might like Iron Maiden's version of this great song as well (despite Blaze Bailey singing on that; besides, he's a great singer, he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, he's not made to sing in Iron Maiden. However, since I love Maiden very much, I like some of the stuff of his era, which is just great, such as Sign Of The Cross)

i am a who fanatic and NO ONE can touch the Who musically. with that said i will admit that this vewrsion rocks and i lik eit better than the who's. I think i enjoy the key that scorps play this in more!!! Scorpions are an awesome band in thier own right!!!!!

It's all a matter of opinion, but to me the Who version is much better. The Who's guitar tones have the resonance of natural tube distortion, while the Scorps tones are less musical. I also like Daltry's vocals more, because they sound more like natural voice, whereas the Scorps vocals are over processed. Sorry, I just much prefer the rough 60's sound to that glitzy 80's hairspray band sound. Also, I'll take Townshend's wild ass sloppy solo over those generic 80's pinched harmonics any day.

@rockerlawyer I think M Shenker left SCORPIONS right after Lonesome Crow album. The SCORPS hired Uli Roth until 1979 when Mathias joined. I believe M Shenker played the solo on Coast to Coast on the Lovedrive album.
