The Who recorded their original in 1965 so any cover version will probably be better BUT my favorite cover version was done by a local Edmonton,Alberta,Canada garage band called the King Beezz recorded in 1966. It can be found on CDs. I bought the original vinyl 45 when it was issued. The flipside was a good cover version of the Kinks' "I Gotta Move". I own the CD by the King Beezz..
In fact, I do play guitar, and I wouldn't say I suck, though I'm not exactly HOT either. Also, there is much less distortion in Townshend's guitar solo than in the Scorps. The Who's distortion is pleasant over driven tubes, whereas I find the Scorps high gain guitar less pleasant. So, anyway, no, I don't favor Townshends more sloppy solo because I suck at guitar. Now, maybe I do play mainly 60's style rock because I can't play better, though if I could play better I'd probably play jazz .
i saw blaze sing with maiden..they were great..futerreal tour..but i think bruce is the man..by the way..scorpions were not greatly known for doin covers..
@davycrocketful Bruce is real good but I doubt he could effectively sing songs like Virgin Killer, Sails of Charon, or Dark Lady or sing ballads like Klaus.
I love Scorpions more than I love The Who, but here nobody must dare denigrate The Who, they're some of the fathers of all Rock music. Besides this version has nothing left of the spirit of the original. People, respect for the classics!!!
Try to think before you speak: I'm not saying you always must, just sometimes, if you can, try to.
What kind of a Rock music lover do you think you may ever be if you don't even recognize such things as The Who are among the most important and influential Rock bands ever? I repeat, I love Scorpions more I love The Who, however I'm able to see the truth.
My favourite band's Iron Maiden, but that doesn't mean they're necessarily the best
@rockmaniac3000 There are two options: either you're really so stupid that you haven't understood the point, especially of what I've written, or you are pretending to be that stupid (I mean you might be stupid, but I hope not so stupid). Let's talk about music and not about sucking, so that we shall see who and how "sucks" worse or better. Let's hear your point about what I was dealing with.
@PietroRumenta yep..the who are awsome..but..i must say i love this cover..the scorps have done it justice..i prefer the scorps over the who..but thats only me.......of course the origanal song will always be special.
@davycrocketful You got the point! I'm just angry because someone has dared denigrate The Who and they really oughtn't to. If you like powerful covers, you might like Iron Maiden's version of this great song as well (despite Blaze Bailey singing on that; besides, he's a great singer, he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, he's not made to sing in Iron Maiden. However, since I love Maiden very much, I like some of the stuff of his era, which is just great, such as Sign Of The Cross)
@davycrocketful I agree, there is a quint simplicity to the original. I hear what your saying, SCORPIONS are a legendary rock band which are almost impossible to imitate.
OK!! im not a big fan of covers but FUCKING SHIT!!!!! THIS IS SO FUCKING AMAZING!!! the original is good but THIS TOTALLY KICKS ASS. KLAUS And Matthias give the song more energy than needed !!!! SCORPIONS ROCK AMEN
I love "The Who" but..............this knocks it out of the park. If you don't like this you can suck my big white nut sack you faggots! And while you're there, give my balls a kiss..............
dear miss jacko1....you have no taste at all!!!! You wouldn't know great vocals if they hit you in the face!!!! You and AlannTH deserve to be stuck with each other, listening to really boring versions of everything!!!! The fact that neither of you has any taste is truly awful and appauling!!!!
I usually believe remakes are cop outs- (what's the matter, you can't write your own stuff?) but here's a great song by a band that is well established in its own right, and they did it justice. Most remakes suck, but this definitely does not!
Not a good cover at all, generic guitar sound and the vocals are not good, the whos version is so clean and crisp. No wonder this version gets little airplay its appauling.
@missjacko1 I enjoy the original's simplistic tone but Klaus Meine vocals on this cover put Roger's vocals to shame. The SCORPS should have kept it simple though.
i am a who fanatic and NO ONE can touch the Who musically. with that said i will admit that this vewrsion rocks and i lik eit better than the who's. I think i enjoy the key that scorps play this in more!!! Scorpions are an awesome band in thier own right!!!!!
It's all a matter of opinion, but to me the Who version is much better. The Who's guitar tones have the resonance of natural tube distortion, while the Scorps tones are less musical. I also like Daltry's vocals more, because they sound more like natural voice, whereas the Scorps vocals are over processed. Sorry, I just much prefer the rough 60's sound to that glitzy 80's hairspray band sound. Also, I'll take Townshend's wild ass sloppy solo over those generic 80's pinched harmonics any day.
@qiaorusi You prefer sloppy solo's cause you probably don't play guitar or suck at it. Any decent guitar player will admire creativity and talent over sloppiness anyday. Distortion itself is a copout for those who lack the talent to play.
@qiaorusi I completely agree. Pete Townshend's solo was genious! I can't figure out how to play that one, it sounds insane! The solo in this version is just fast meaningless speed riffs, harmonics and bends with a Floyd Rose.
@nomad6886 You can easily beat the 80's bands for emotion and excitement with the 60s. There was so much emotion in everything in the 60s and the 70s, unlike almost everything since.
this rocks..i remember when this came out on some scorps greatest hits tape ...i wore that sucker out with this one (you notice i said "tape" thats one clue how long ago it was) thanks for the vid!!
@rockerlawyer I think M Shenker left SCORPIONS right after Lonesome Crow album. The SCORPS hired Uli Roth until 1979 when Mathias joined. I believe M Shenker played the solo on Coast to Coast on the Lovedrive album.
Na The Who's original version is by far the best. This is great however no matter how much guitar you throw in you'll never be able to nail the instrumentation like John, Pete and Keith could.
