Oh boi, I miss the States so much! Really enjoyed your Video and the Monster can in the background. Awesome! :) Wish I could go fishing and hunting here in Germany, like in the States but to do this in Germany, you need so many licenses and permits. it kills the fun!
I enjoyed your "plain & simple" no-BS approach in this video very much. This looks like a great technique during a float/camp/fish adventure and I will try this early in the spring at a White River, Arkansas trip. Thanks for the information and best wishes!
wow, only 2 things wrong with this video.. you HOLLERED the whole time... do you think we're all DEAF? and 2. you repeated yourself at least a dozen times... pure n simple, pure n simple, pure n simple... this video could have been done in 2 minutes... and whats with all the still pics? its a VIDEOOOO???? sheesh
I think your method of cooking is what we are all going to have to convert to pretty soon. (when there is no electricity) your awsome. I was born and raised in Alaska and enjoy the outdoors, and thats the way you cook fish.
I mostly piss on the grass when Im fishing, never in the water . I use a shirt or better my T-shirt when I make hobo fish. Looks good except for the grass part.
I call this the primal method, I have never tried it with fish but I do steaks and burgers often, I do like to take some paper and fan the coals before I put the food in, to blow off as much ash as I can
i love watching you cook them trout. many times i have caught few trout then lit fire on riverbank cooked em right there. nothing better is there? ty....karen
Hey LOVE the video! I have a question, have you used this method with other fish, like bass, or blue gill? I go on a camping trip every year with my buddies, and we cook A LOT of fish. We usually fillet them, and then fry them up in oil with seasoned pancake batter. This would work MUCH BETTER if it could be done with bonier fish. Thanks for the vid!!
I think it's not gross at all.... I bet it tastes really good!!! and I bet I can eat 3 plate of rice with those 3 trout plus a dip of 'sambal' (indonesian chili mix).. yummmm.. we always bring rice when we camping u know
Great video. Now that's "real" campfire cooking. I pull up a lot of campfire videos and the folks are using utensils and tin foil and marinades. This is the type of cooking one can do if they get lost in the woods.
MrJumBow, I'm excited to try your fishing cooking technique as soon as I can get into the wild and sling some lures at some trout. Thanks for the inspiration brother.
@skino1986 so let me see if i got this straight... (us yanks are kinda stupid) I like fishing and the old guy struck me as amusing and this makes me a terrorist. Just curious if all englanders are as intelligent, insightful and likable as you.
@skino1986 well concedering the facts that you do not have any videos posted on this video share peer network and you are actually going out of your way to pick fights i guess that makes you a trole. you are completly fucked up if you really believe i'm a terorist and i recomend that you seek counceling
@casuallytactical Well to be honest, I never have cooked really "big" trout on a bed of coals. However, I see NO reason why this method would not work. Yes, about 5 to 6 inches of coals would be needed and, of course, your cook time will significantly increase. I would estimate that you would have to cook both sides of the fish for no less than 15 to 20 minutes. Good question and thanks for the review :)
@SouthAmericanFishMan Yes, by all means, give this trout cooking method a try. I am sure it will work for other species of fish, but I could not swear by it :)
nice vid, this is one of the few ways I've always cooked trout. Just tonight I tried oven baking them for the first time and I will not be doing that again, they were still good, but could have been much better. Even if i have to start a fire in my backyard, coals are definitely the way to cook fresh trout.
@lobsternoob I also use a home made smoker to cook/cure trout. This works very well also. I am glad you liked the video. Give "coal cooking" a try. It's very fast and the trout taste very good, in my humble opinion.
@CountryGrammarShow Yes the charred and burnt skin just peels right off the trout. It comes off fairly easy. On most trout, no matter how cooked, you must be careful of the small bones. If you know how to "crack open" a trout, this should not be a problem. Thanks for the question :)
@DSH1LL Certainly you can. However, I would advise you to keep the SKINS attached to the fish. The skin itself kind of acts like it's own "tin foil", so to speak. Naturally, the skin will become quite charred and burnt, but this matters very little. Thanks for the review and question :)
My son just brought home his first trout and now I'm confident I can cook it pretty easily - although I'm using an oven this time - next time, a fire "plain and simple". I hope Emeril does see this - I'll bet he'd love it!! Thanks.
@Daisytoo This method of cooking trout works really GOOD even though it may seem a wee bit odd. This is especially handy when you are camping and things of this nature. Thanks for the review and comments :)
@drewbiedoo2 Well a big rip roaring fire is not needed for this cooking method. I realize that this trout cooking method looks very weird, but it sure works well. Thanks for the comments :)
@drewbiedoo2 Well I am not the greatest orator in the world. Just as long as I got my point across, I guess this is all that matters (LOL) Love you sense of humor :):)
The trout don't look so good coming out of the coals, but they DO taste real good. As stated, there are few few cooking utensils and/or ingredients involved with this method of cooking :)
I have been cooking fresh caught trout like this for over 30 years. I am quite certain that this method will work very well for other species of fish. I guess I never thought of that (lol) Thanks so much for the review :)
Well being 58 years old, I guess I am plumb full of terminology like that (lol) Thanks for the kind comments, however I was really trying to be serious about this method of cooking fresh caught trout. I have been cooking them this way for well over 30 years :)

I think that I am double spamming you, so SORRY for that. YES, this business of open fire/coal cooking is a real good one. I have been cooking trout just like what you seen for over 30 years now. Just a good FAST and SIMPLE way to much on some fish :)
Yeah baby, that's what I'm talking about. Cooking fresh trout in an open bed of coals is the ONLY way to go. I have been doing it this way for over thirty years :)
You say this technique won't work on store bought or frozen fish. Does this include Ms. Paul's fish sticks as well? I like those with lemon pepper salt.
I think I have replied to your comments before, so sorry if I am double spamming you (lol). NAW, this whole open coal fire cooking method is for FRESH TROUT only :)
I may be "double spamming" you here, but thanks so much for the rating and so forth. YES, cooking FRESHLY caught trout in a bed of camp fire coals (as shown) is a really GOOD and FAST way to prepare trout for eating. GIVE IT A TRY....!!
JIM the way you prepaire that fish yummy thats the only thing i can say about it, iam also fan of smoked fish and its really delicous they way you prepaire i know for sure mmm , give me a bit of that fish lol.
Bush, get over here to MONTANA and I will cook some for you....!! Yes that's a good "recipe" there and THANKS for giving me the mental jog for doing that video. I got the idea from comments that you made for one of my fishing vids. You mentioned something about BUTTER and I had to LAFF....!!
