  • WOW... what a VOICE!!! still big and bold after all those years! you can tell she was used to singing with a big band, she had a perfect sound for singing with that kind of band, just amazing!

  • Hello Screaming Eagle.

  • For certain, that band was not Jimmy Dorsey... not even close. Helen exemplified all the beauty, spirit and talent that blessed the wonderful Big Band era. God, how I miss it.

  • Adolf Hitler said that if he could marry her,he would have never started the Big War.

  • Thank You, I agree.

  • She was beautiful from the beginning till she stopped performing...another great talent that was one of a kind....never can forget that innocence & great talent of the day in her early years...I think she just got better and better throughout her career. Another extraordinary talent that we remaining mortals lost, but left such a beautiful memory...Thank God for the electronics that captured her in time ago!!

  • I believe this is from the series titled, "Jukebox Saturday Night" and featured many of the singers from the Big Band era... Helen O'Connell, Helen Forrest, Bea Wain, with Bob Crosby and the Bobcats. GREAT~!!!

  • @dukesgal39 Thanks for the correct comment. there are others on swinginkatz, and also on Frank Katzenmeyer, Facebook, Join me on both.

  • Me Too. Thanks.

  • I agree with waynebrasier....she had the voice, the style, the verve...adjectives fail me....I fell in love with her many years ago.....

  • My parents saw her at Nixon Brother's Steak House in Charlotte, N.C. back in the 70's. My dad new her pianist from the 60's (Don Reitan) and she came to the table and talked to my dad between sets.

  • @charlesenn Thanks for the inport, more of Helen on swinginkatz.

  • Thanks for this. I had the pleasure and honor of being Miss O'Connell's "opener" at a corporate show in the early 1980's. What a class act!

  • @tallpaul521 Thank You Paul, always glad to hear from you. Class all the way, of a great Lady. If you are ever performing in the Tampa Bay Area, let me know. There are many venues here you could bring your act to. I am now uploading some of her long play records.

  • I worked with Helen for years on the East Coast. What a total joy...always. I always loved playing piano and conducting for Helen. She was beautiful right till the end. I always loved zipping up her dress for her in the dressing room! :)

  • @barrygordon1 Thank all of you, a Beautifu lLady

  • She's wonderful...Nothing like her. So sad she's not with us anymore. She was a great singer and a beautiful woman.

  • I had the great pleasure of meeting both Helen and Bob Eberly late in their careers when I was a teenager. They were two of the sweetest, down to earth and FUNNY as hell--I mean, they had us in hysterics when we interviewed them on our radio show in Atlantic City. Helen pinched me on the cheek! I'll never forget that! Thanks for remembering this truly talented lady.

  • IS THERE ANY MORE.......I do MISS the MISS

  • Thanks, the Beautiful Helen. More things to come.

  • She also hosted the TV show "Here's Hollywood" in the early 60s and had a talk show in the late 60s.

  • You are correct, and also very beauriful. Thank you for watching. I am glad her family also have seen this.

  • I saw her in concert, no electrics, no backup singers/ dancers just PURE talent. She was one of the BEST...

  • I agree, thanks

  • You have some very good videos. I do think Helen O'Connell was one of the perky and cute big band singers. Was very attractive throughout her life. Miss seeing her.

  • And also very beautiful.

  • Paladium 1944. Green Eyes. Great

  • Thank You. She was great, after her singing days she was on TV in the 50's. So Beautiful.

  • My mother's favorite singer.. I love the big band era..The ladies were talented without having to take their clothes of to distract people from realizing they had no talent; today's singers.

  • Thank You Joan, once again.. Very True, I have watched your enchanting videos, very nice. Are you from Iran?

  • Beautiful Helen

    thank you

    oh for yesterday

  • She looked gorgeous right to the end. And sounded gorgeous! In the later years she was 30 times the singer she was in the big band days (as the Chicago Tribune's Howard Reich put it in a review), with much more depth of expression. At the same time, she kept all her verve, energy and enthusiasm. She also in the later years was really more of a jazz singer than a pop singer.

  • Thank You for your post, we have the same taste. What a beauty, even in her later life.

  • Thanks for posting. She was great. I had the good fortune to see her show at the Hotel Roosevelt in New Orleans back in the mid 1960's.

  • Thank you for the nice comment.

  • WOW!!!!!! GREAT !!!!!

  • Once again, thank you for your comment.

  • So great to hear Tangerine sung by Helen again. The greatest singer of the GREAT era, I miss her so.
